The Twilight Dragons

Dragon Patrons

Ellymnar A venerable gold dragon, and also the founder of the Twilight Dragon's society, Ellymnar was a very prominent figure in the old Draconic Empire.   Alas, he fell in love with an elven warrior maiden and sired a child, Myrrith.   The dragons shunned him for this deed and made him an outcast.  Ellymnar accepted this treatment for he chose to be with his elven love, but the dragons did not stop there.  They decided to erase his crime by destroying his elven lover and their child.  They only halfway succeeded.  Ellymnar fled with his child and over the centuries has spent his time living with the elves.  He now, only very rarely, wears his natural form, choosing instead to appear as a tall elven male with golden eyes.   At first Ellymnar taught the elves great magics in the hopes that they could combat his dragon foes, but whenever the dragons found him they would destroy entire elven communities.  So instead Ellymnar searched the world for dragons of like mind and formed the Twilight Circle.  What the elves could not do by force, perhaps the Circle can do by guile and stealth.

Kharghxis A young black dragon, very daring and adventursome, Kharghxis joined the Twilight Dragons because he felt oppressed by the female heirarchy of the Draconic Empire.  Several trips to the outer planes have left his black scales a shadowy quality.  Once a day he can shape this effect into a displacement of his body.  Unbeknownst to Kharghxis, during one of his trips to the Plane of Shadows, he fathered Xanis.  One night Xanis simply appeared to his father.   Kharghxis knew it was his offspring, but did not know what exactly it was, and still does not.  Kharghxis is a little afraid of Xanis, but having an offspring gives him more power in the Twilight Council.

Malaphont A young green dragon who never much cared for the company of his own kind, Malaphont fell in love with a dryad who lived in the forest which he claimed as his own.  Because he was already a misfit, none of the other dragons took notice when the dryad bore him a child.  Malaphont joined the Twilight Council out of shere principle alone.  He is the only one of them who still maintains a defined territory.

Varlmanix A large silver dragon with streaks of rust through his scales, Varlmanix is an impressive site.  Once a renowned spy for the Draconic Empire, he was seduced while on a mission in Glantri City.  The Glantrian Dracologist had learned his true identity and thought to gain great power by bearing his child.  When Varlmanix learned of what had happened he hunted the mage down and slew her.  The child however, was not with her.  Feeling no malice toward the creature, he did not persue it.  The Empire felt differently however, and ordered him to slay the abomination.  Reluctantly he set out to perform the task, but Ellymnar found him first.  The old gold persueded him to spare his child's life and join the Twilight Council.

Velamkiire  (Also known as Flame Eyes)  An ancient red dragon, Velamkiire burns with a passion to control all that he sees.  His crimson scales are scorched black around the fringes, and his body produces steam and smoke whenever it contacts another surface.  Velamkiire, like all of the other Twilight Dragons, is an outcast and a criminal in the Draconic Empire.  His lust for power drove him to sire two non dragon offspring.  Both children were born royalty, and quickly became despotic rulers in their respective kingdoms.  The kingdoms were not stable however, and both of them fell into disarray and resolution.  The great red dragon rescued both of his children from their fates as doomed kings (for he would never waste such valuable resources) and they now serve him on the Twilight Council.

Dragon-Kin

Belfyre The oldest of Velamkiire's two sons, Belfyre's appearance is starting to show his heritage.  Fragile elfin features are slowly being replaced by a hard reptilian countenance.  Born to an elven princess, Belfyre became an adept of forbidden fire magics.  Now he is a master of pyrotechnic arts.

Gramik  The younger of Velamkiire's sons, Gramik was born to a humanoid cheiftan.  Where his brother excells in intellect, Gramik far surpasses him in savage brutality.  Although younger than his brother, he has aged more rapidly and his draconic side is readily seen.  He has gained his father's smoldering ability and can cause his hands to superheat three times per day.  Unknown to all but his father, Gramik has already successfully undergone his first Ceremony of Sublimation.

Melynn Still very young, Melynn's human features are very prominent.  Her mother died when she was young, and she can not remember her.   She never knew her father.  Members of the Twilight Circle found her in Glantri, and took her in as one of their own.  Frail and thin, Melynn spends most of her time studying ancient lore with Myrrith, whom she sees as a mother figure.   Though she does not know her father, few consider her to be one of the Fatherless, for many in the Circle know his identity to be that of Varlmanix.

Myrrith Born at the height of the Nithian Empire to Ellymnar, Myrrith is nearly 2000 years old, and nearing the end of her lifetime.  She is one of the only mortals on Mystara who can remember Nithia.  As the leader of the Twilight Circle, and their reigning expert on ancient lore and history, Myrrith has played a crucial role in organizing the construction of Twilight City above the Sundsval Maelstrom.  Throughout her lifetime Myrrith's elven features have been very prominent.

Xanis A shadowy entity of mysterious origins, Xanis simply remembers coming into being one day.  Xanis appears as a semi-translucent being.  Humanoid in shape and size, his draconic features are very prominent even though he is fairly young.  Xanis can enter or exit the Plane of Shadows at will up to three times per day.  The other members of the Circle give him a wide berth as much is unknown about him.

The Fatherless

There are two categories of the Fatherless.  The first is composed of Dragon-Kin who do not know who their father is.   All Fatherless in this category are first generation -- that is their fathers were full blooded dragons.  These dragons may or may not stepp forward to claim their children, or they may have been killed before they could do so.  Once a child has been claimed, they can never be considered one of the Fatherless, even if their father dies afterward.

The second category of Fatherless is composed of those Dragon-Kin who are second or more generations.  These are Dragon-Kin without a full blooded dragon parent.  Their parents were other Dragon-Kin.  So far only those with Carnifex blood have been able to produce their own offspring.

The Drax-Carnifex

This is a very small and ancient group of Dragon-Kin, fathered by dragons and born to one of the Carnifex.  They are extremely intelligent, powerful, cruel, and ruthless.  Although they can produce viable offspring, that event occures rarely.  Though known by the Twilight Circle, the Drax-Carnifex are not members.  They have their own goals and agendas, such as wiping out all life forms but their own, which often clash with those of the Circle.   These beings could very readily regain the former glory of their ancestors, and if they do, then even the immortals must beware.
