Molly and Cissa came running out of the alley, just in time to see the Mercedes speed away. Sailor Mercury, the first one to compose herself, turned to the two of them, and asked, "Are you two all right?"
Molly nodded, while Cissa stood, gaping at the five scouts and Mask.Sheblurted out, "Who the HELL are you guys??"
Moon looked at the other Scouts, then back at Cissa, "Uhm...don't youknow who we are?"
Cissa shook her head, while the Scouts, Mask, and Molly looked at her, surprise written all over their faces. Molly said slowly, "The SailorScouts. Sailor Moon, Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Venus, andSailor Jupiter. Fighters of Love and Justice. And Tuxedo Mask. Comeon, you had to of heard of them!"
All the scouts tried their best heroic poses, and Cissa looked at themcarefully. She then shook her head, and said, "Sorry..."
Moon looked at Cissa with amazement, and said, "Oh come on...you'venever heard of the FAMOUS Sailor Moon? That I right wrongs and triumphover evil?? In the name of the Moon???"
Cissa shrugged, and shook her head negatively. Mars growled, "Never??Not even ONCE??"
Cissa blushed, and said apologetically, "I grew up in a conventschool...I'm not really much up with world events..."
Venus rolled her eyes, and started to say, "Okay, you see, we're theSailor Scouts--" when Jupiter looked upwards, and her eyes widened.Shethrew her hand over her blond friend's mouth.
"Listen, Molly will explain it all to you. Right now, we have to GO.So...uhm...BYE!!" Jupiter yelled, pulling on a now muffled Venus.
The other Sailor Scouts looked at Jupiter like she was insane, but theywere even more surprised when Mask, looking where Jupiter had momentsbefore, suddenly said, "She's right...Ladies..." looking over at Mollyand Cissa, "Be careful going home..." And with that, he grabbed Moon'sand Mercury's wrists, dragging them along, with Jupiter doing the samething to Mars and Venus.
Molly turned to Cissa, who yelled after them, "Okkkkkay. Nice to havemet you. Nice skirts...hope it doesn't get to drafty!!" After they hadquickly gotten out of earshot, Cissa turned to Molly, and said,"Uhm...okay, explain please."
Molly grinned, and said, "Come on, I'll tell you while we're goingthrough the Park.."
Ciss shifted her bags and Serena's, and said quietly, "Well, okay.Justas long as this Park doesn't have any blond women that you want toknockout for some strange reason or another, weird guys in grey uniforms, orgirls dressed in a way that would of gotten me locked up by theSisters..."
Molly giggled, and started to lead the way to the park.
A somewhat stolic local newcaster interrupted his report on the TokyoStock Market to read, rather excitedly, "....And this special bulletinjust coming in. There was another 'strange', if not now frequent, monster attack on a section of downtown Tokyo. Luckily for the citzensof this fair metropolis, the courageous Sailor Scouts, and theircompanion, the mysterious Tuxedo Mask, were there to save the day. Thefifty foot high crystal 'being' came, as some passerbys said, out ofthin air itself. We have the complete footage of Sailor Venus andTuxedoMask saving a group of school children. The children, out on a specialweekend school trip, were trapped by the monster--"
The report was cut off by Zoeisite, who was laying on the sofa in oneofthe bedrooms in the new headquarters. With a disgusted growl, she tookher boot, and tossed it at the TV. The boot somehow managed to hitrighton the mark, and knock the TV off the table. The TV exploded in aburstof blue sparks, and she smiled in grim satisfaction.
Jedaite entered the room, with a tray of soup, a glass of milk, someantiseptic, and a clean bandage for Zoeisite's gash. He raised aneyebrow, and commented, "Another news report?"
Zoeisite muttered, "Stupid reporters...can't they find anything elsetotalk about? Like floods, or..or a war or.. or something! Why alwaystheScouts, Scouts, Scouts!??" She crossed her arms and huffed.
Jediate chuckled, and sat on the sofa besides Zoeisite. Placing thetrayon her lap, he commanded, "Stop fretting about the Scouts and eat yoursoup." As she tenatively put her spoon into the broth, Jedaite tookoffthe makeshift bandage that Malachite had made for her in the car outofpart of his tan suit, and cleaned the wound.
Zoeisite grimaced slightly, and said, "Ouch...that stings."
Jedaite said, with a casual air, "It should. That sceptre made a nicelittle dent here..."
Zoeisite sighed, and sipped at her soup again. She watched Jedaite ashere bandaged her head, and asked gruffly, "Why are you being so nice tome? I nearly wrecked this whole mission."
Jedaite looked surprised, then said calmly, "I'm...not really sure. However, I think perhaps it has to do with the fact that I feel..whatisthe human's word... Sympathetic. I know how it feels to see a perfectplan blown to bits by a whiny child with a ridiculous hairdo..."
Zoeisite laughed, then held her head, grimacing slightly. Just then,Malachite and Erkyte strode through the door. They both took in thebroken TV, and Malachite, leaning over to kiss Zoeisite gently, said,"Another report on the Scouts, my love?" Zoeisite looked embarrassed, while Jedaite laughed.
Erkyte grinned, and commented, "That's the third TV in an hour...theScouts must be a hot news item."
"TOO hot...those miserable little...oooooooh. Just thinking about themgives me a terrible pain in my head." Zoeisite complained, putting onehand to her face, then yelping as she touched her black eye.
Erkyte chuckled, and said, "I believe that's what humans call aheadache."
Malachite looked at Zoeisite'e eye and said, "That's looking prettyugly..."
Jedaite leaned over, and commented, "It's all....purple..and black."
Erkyte stood over Malachite's kneeling form, and added, "That Mollyreally whacked her one."
Zoeisite squinted up her good eye, and said slowly, "I am well awareofthe fact that my eye looks like a bruised plum. I don't need all ofyou'hanging' in my face to tell me that!"
With embarrrased looks, all three of the male generals backed off.Zoeisite smiled sweetly at all of them, then grimaced again. Malachitefrowned, and said, "We really need to get you something for the pain, mysweet."
Erkyte stood thoughtful for a moment, then said, "Humans, when theyhaveheadaches...use something called aspirin. It's supposed to relieve thepain."
Zoeisite looked at Erkyte with a hopeful look, saying, "I don'tsupposewe have any?"
Erkyte smiled weakly and said, "No...I didn't think we would needhumanmedical supplies. At least, not so soon."
Zoeisite was about to groan, when Jedaite commented, "Not a problem.I'll just head down to a human 'drug store', and pick some up. Plus anice pack and more bandages for her."
Malachite raised a eyebrow, and said dryly, "Very considerate of you,Jedaite. However, Humans usually have a little thing like, oh, I don'tknow, MONEY, to buy things. Last time I checked, the Negaverse didn'topen any bank accounts."
Jedaite smiled smugly, and said, "Now that's what YOU say...how didyouthink that Nephlyte got his car, or mansion? The fact that I was abletoopen a cruise ship or gym, went with the fact that Nephlyte and Ithought it wise to have some sort of human currency...just in case..."as he took out a fat wallet full of hundred yen bills.
Erkyte's and Malachite's mouths dropped open in surprise. Zoeisitemerely sat back, and murmered, "Extra strength aspirin please..."
Erkyte managed to stutter out, as Jedaite turned to the door,"So...youfound you had a talent for picking pockets as well?"
Jedaite laughed, winked, and said smoothly, "Not exactly...but thestockmarket is a true gold mine. Especially since we had 'stars' on ourside..." And with that, he was out the door.
Erkyte turned to Malachite, and said mockingly, "And you said wedidn'tneed him!"
Malachite shrugged, and said, "I have been known to be wrong..." Withthat, he leaned back and grinned, adding, "And I've never been happierto make a mistake."
None of them noticed the slow black mist creeping under the door, andcoming into the room behind them.
Mask and Jupiter dragged the Scouts back to the temple, while theysomehow managed to ignore the yelled whinings (from Serena) and angrythreats, (from Raye). As they entered the temple, the two Moon catsleaped off the top of the temple roof, with Luna exclaiming, "It'saboutTIME you got them all rounded up, Lita and Darien!"
Tuxedo Mask dissapered, and Darien Chiba stood in his place. He turnedto Luna, and commented dryly, "Did you ever try DRAGGING two not solight girls through Tokyo streets, with one screaming in your ear??"
Seconds after him, the Scouts had transformed into their streetselves.Lita added, as she smoothed her ponytail out, "Yeah, and with anotherone trying to bite off your arm!"
Serena and Raye huffed together, and stuck out their tongues at Darienand Lita. Amy stepped up, and said, "Well, you have us here now...whatwas so urgent?"
Artemis stepped forward, and said, "A couple of things...Number one, wemanaged to copy the lisense plate number of the car Jedaite'borrowed'.Amy, could you run it through the police files, so when it's stolen, wecan see if we can track them from here?"
Ami nodded her head affirmatively. Luna said, "All right, next thing.Scouts, I don't want to alarm anyone, but there was a strange womanwatching you all today..."
Mina spoke up, "Was she red haired??" The other Scouts looked oneagerly. Darien raised a brow, and looked puzzled.
"Red haired woman? Huh?" he asked.
"We all had nightmares involving a girl with red hair...how aboutyou?"Lita asked, as all the scouts eyes turned towards him. Darien's eyeswent from puzzled to ice.
"Well, I had a dream all right...but it dealt with a red haired MAN,nota woman." he said darkly. Amy looked thoughtful, and Luna frowned.
"Hmmmm....well, that brings up a connection..." said Artemis, lookingaround, "That new 'pal' that Zoesite, Malachite and Jedaite broughtwiththem had red hair."
"And a baaaaaaaaaaad attitude..." growled Serena, "Why can't Negaverseguys EVER be nice??"
Raye looked at Serena, rolled her eyes, then said, "Okay, so what canwecall this 'new' friend of theirs. He didn't exactly do any groupintroductions."
"Erkyte..." murmered Amy. The others turned and looked at her, baffled. She blushed, and commented, "I heard Zoiesite mentioning someone ofthatname when she attacked us in the mall."
Lita grinned, and said, "Only AMY would have enough mental energy toremember something like that after we'd been ambushed."
Amy blushed again, and Luna said, "Well the woman following you todayhad green hair, not red."
Artemis chuckled, and added, "And she was most definately a woman..."Luna boxed him over the head with her paw.
After listening to Artemis's not so nice wishes for her futurechildren, she continued, her eyes trailing each of the Scouts faces, "All right, this is all well and good, but we have a seriousproblem on our hands.Girls, we looked around before we followed you; they hit a LOT ofshopsbefore we finally got there. I think that Monster they created wasonlyperhaps a fifth of the power they collected..."
The girls turned deadly pale, while Darien frowned deeply. Artemissighed, and padded around. "People, we are in deep trouble. They areback...and they are going to be gunning for us." he said gravely.
"Tell us something we don't know...." Raye muttered.
"Also, you'll note the attacking style is different. This Erkyte, hebelieves in subtle operations. We have to be very watchful from nowon..." Luna said warningly.
Mina raised her hand, and Artemis gave her a look, saying, "We aren'tinschool, Sailor V-enus. What's your question?"
Mina grinned, and turning to look at Lita and Darien, said, "How theHECK did those two manage to signal you guys about coming to thetemple?? I mean, did they use sign language or something?"
Luna and Artemis dropped their heads in exasperation. Amy piped up,"Mina, although the question puzzles me as well...I don't think thisisthe time or place..."
"Sorry..." Mina muttered, "Just trying to lighten the mood..."
"I have a question." came the quiet voice of Serena. She had walkedoverto the window while all of this discussion had gone on, and now sheturned to look at them all, the afternoon sun slanting down on herblondhair, turning into a golden halo. Darien caught his breath slightly.
"Serena...if this has anything to do with FOOD..." Raye saidwarningly.Luna prepared to drop her head again.
"No. It doesn't. _How_ are we going to beat them?" Serena asked, hervoice flat.
Everyone stared at her. Lita said, her green eyes looking at Serenawithconfusion, "I think I speak for the majority of people here when Isay,HUH?"
"HOW are WE going to beat them? In case no one thought of it, thisErkyte guy brought people back from the DEAD! As in dearly departed?Andif that's what he can do with pratically NO energy...let's just sayI'mnot eager to see what else he has up his sleeve with five times morepower." the Moon Princess said with a shudder.
The four girls looked at each other, then at Luna and Artemis. Thetwocats looked at each other, then at Serena, speechless for once. It wasDarien who spoke, "So?"
Serena turned to her lover, her blue eyes shocked, "So?? SO?? We'regoing to get vaporized..." She looked at the floor, hugging herself.Darien strode over to her, and tilted her face to look up into his.
"This is NOT the Serena I know and love...the one who thought I couldstill be saved after I was brainwashed into the Negaverse...", he saidsoftly, his blue eyes meeting her's tenderly.
"The one who wasn't afraid to be my friend..." Ami said quietly.
"Or mine..." piped up Lita.
"The one who faced down Jedaite, Nephlyte, Zoeisite, and Malachite allby herself." said Mina.
"The one that even if she was scared out of her mind, would always gotofight..." Raye said, her violet eyes piercing Serena's.
"And the girl who went toe to toe with Beryl...who went after Alan andAnn.." Luna added, and looked at her with solemn brown eyes, "Serena,Iknow it looks bad now..but all we need is a plan."
"A little faith couldn't hurt either..." said Artemis, hopping untoMina's shoulder, giving Serena a comforting smile, as all the girlsandencircled her. Luna hopped into Amy's arms.
"All right, let's make a pact..." Darien said, his arm around Serena'sshoulders, "We are going to find a way, no matter what, to beat theseguys. We did it before, and we'll do it again." He then stuck his handinto the middle of the circle, and looked at each of the girls inturn.
Lita stuck her hand in, and repeated, "We did it before, and we'll doitagain."
Amy and Raye stuck in their hands, as did Mina. Luna and Artemisleanedforward, and placed their paws in as far as they dared. Everyonelookedat Serena. Her blue eyes looked at the hands in the middle, then atthegroup of friends around her. She smiled weakly, then put her hand inthemiddle, saying quietly, "We did it before...we'll do it again..."
Everyone slowly smiled. Suddenly Mina raised her hand again, waving itback and forth. The girls giggled, Darien smiled, and Luna and Artemisraised eyebrows. "All right, I'll bite. What now, Mina??" Artemis saiddryly.
Mina said calmly, "I think we should head back to the scene of thefirstattack. The mall, in other words."
Artemis and Luna looked at each other, and Luna said, "That's awonderful idea. We could there and search for clues!"
Mina blushed, and said, "Actually, I was thinking more along the linesof...we left our dresses there, and we have to get them..." The twoMooncats looked at each other, and sighed. The other Scouts just looked atMina, and started giggling. And for the first time in an hour, a smilecreeped over Serena's mouth.
She looked at her friends, and felt a little less scared. The SailorScouts had handled countless monsters. Surely, together they couldbeatthem. They were a team. And they would finish off Beryl's men, noworryabout that. One team, one planet. So much protecting to do....
So they're like, Super Heros??" Cissa asked, her grey eyes wide andsurprised.
"Super Heroines actually...yup! They've been around for about a yearnow...they're really great!" Molly bubbled.
"Wow..." Cissa shook her head, as they came out of the park. Acrossthestreet, Molly could just see the sign for her mom's jewelry shop. OSAPshone in the afternoon sunlight.
"Okay, this is where I live...you're going to give me a call and tellmewhen you're going to be coming by school and visit all of us,right??",she said brightly, tossing her bright red curls.
Cissa grinned, and said, "Yup, and for times we can hook upearlier..Later Mol!" She waved goodbye to Molly as the young girl ranacross the street, avoiding the afternoon traffic. Cissa turned, andstarted off towards home, eyes thoughtful.
The afternoon was cool, and Cissa swung her shopping bags in athoughtful manner, as she breathed in the spring air. 'The SailorScouts...wow. I can't believe this town, so much happens!' she thoughtto herself, then grinned. 'I'd love to do a portrait of them...FemaleWarriors of Japan...'
Lost in an artistic musing, she didn't see the young man walkingtowardsher, his eyesight blocked by a large brown bag. They collided, andbothfell backwards, items flying everywhere. Cissa groaned, "OhJeeezzz...not again..."
Any angry male voice growled at her, "Why don't you watch where youare..." as the young blond man sat up, then stopped in midsentence.
Cissa's eyes widened, and they both sat on the ground, pointing, totallyspeechless for a moment. Then Cissa just murmered, "It's you..."
Jedaite gulped. What was sliding down his forehead, sweat? By theNegaverse, was he NERVOUS? This was ridiculous; it was just a humangirl. A..beautiful human girl. He shook himself, and managed to getout,"It's you...too." After he said that, he mentally slapped himself. HOWcould he say something so moronic?
Cissa giggled, and said softly, "Didn't we just cover that part of theconversation?"
Jedaite felt a smile flicker over his mouth, and said dryly, "I don'tknow, pointing out the obvious is one of my best points..."
Cissa laughed, her grey eyes closing slightly. She looked at him, abright flush flowing over her cheeks, quietly scolding, "You leftwithout saying good bye earlier."
"I know...I'm..sorry. A..friend of mine was in trouble, I had to gettoher." Jedaite stumbled over the words, like a small child trying tomakea first sentence. He looked into her grey eyes, and felt just a littlelost.
Cissa bit her lip slightly, the way he brushed the blond strands outofhis gorgeous violent eyes was adorable. 'What am I DOING??' her mindsaid frantically, 'I'm flirting with a strange man whose name I don'teve KNOW!' Then her mind answered back, 'Then ASK him his name,Dummy!'
"I'm...I'm Felicissa Murray..." she said, her eyes looking downsuddenly, then she looked at him again, her eyes soft, "What's yours?"
Jedaite felt his mind go numb. He couldn't exactly say, 'Oh, I'mJedaite, First General of the Negaverse. I'm trying to slaugter yourfriends, the Sailor Scouts. Nice to meet you.' He opened his mouthonceor twice, then suddenly...
"Jedan. Jedan Rito." he blurtered out, then paused. Jedan? Where theheck did THAT one come from? He shook himself out of it, and stuck outhis hand. Cissa took his, and he leaned forward on his knees, kissingitgently. Cissa blushed, and looked at the ground again. Jedaite felt arush of pleasure run through him. He forgot he was a NegaverseGeneral, that he didn't believe in 'human' emotions, that he was here on amission to destroy the Sailor Scouts.
"Here, let me help you get your things..." he said softly, as hepulledher to her feet, and pratically into his arms. They both blushed thistime, and Jedaite let go of her hands. They stood looking at eachothershyly for a moment, before Jedaite began to gather his and her thingsinto their respective bags. He noted the dress she had bought, andwondered about it.
Cissa picked up his bandages, and bottle of aspirin, frowning. "Areyouworking for a gym or something?" she asked, holding up the ice pack.Jedaite blanched for a moment.
"No...the friend of mine got caught in a fight. I'm taking care ofher.." he stammered.
Cissa smiled, and said gently, "That's terribly kind of you to do."
Jedaite shrugged, he felt sort of strange. It WAS a kind thing for himto do, and completely out of his nature. Not unlike the time, backwhenhe was a General, where he had pretended to be a General, and helpedthat photographer around the boat. He had done a kind thing withoutthinking about it. Suddenly realising just what he was doing, beingniceto the enemy, he abruptly picked up his bag, and said quietly, "I haveto be getting home."
Cissa picked up her bags as well, and looking at his now stiff form, said quietly, "Oh..." She wondered what she had said, then thoughtaboutit. Oh, the 'friend' must be more than a friend, and I'm treadingwhereeagles fear to fly.
Sighing, she said, "Well, nice to have met you again. See you around,Iguess."
Jedaite shook; he couldn't just let her leave...not like this."Wait..."he called out to her. Cissa turned, and he got lost in those huge greyeyes for a moment. He said slowly, "Where...where can I find youagain?"
Cissa's lips slowly curved into a smile, and she took a drawing pencilshe had had in her pocket out and walked over to Jediate. She pulledoutone of his palms, and wrote on it. Jedaite could't see what she waswriting, but she looked up at him, winked, and then said, "See youaround, blondie..."
He watched as she sauntered down the street, then looked at his hand. Her number was there, plus a small note that said:
Nice to 'bump' into you again...we're going to have to do it againrealsoon...
Cissa
He grinned, and started walking home, whistling. Then stopped. Wheretheheck did he learn to how to whistle?
The instant Jedaite stepped into the compound, he knew something waswrong. For one thing, it was quiet. It was too quiet. And he couldfeela distinct presence of evil in the room, like a dark cloud over theplace. Putting down the brown bag in the kitchen, he started towardsZoeisite's room. As he walked, his street clothes melted into hisgenerals uniform quietly. He paused a moment at the door, then pusheditopen.
The sight that greeted his eyes was an unsettling one. Erkyte,Malachite, and Zoeisite all were kneeling, to what Jedaite could onlyassume was..."Queen Metallia...." he murmered, as he entered, kneelingbesides Erkyte.
The black mist which was their regent hissed, "Jeeeedddaiiiite...yourcompanions were telling just WHAT went wrong with todaymiiiiiiiiiission....perhaps you would like to enlighten meeeee?"
Jedaite said nothing, but he felt a bolt of anger flow through him. So,they had already scapegoated him, eh? So much for that time honored,'wehave to work together to survive' spiel. He glanced over at hiscompanions, and bowing his head quietly, said, "Enlighten you how, myregent?" 'How they are a bunch of liars?' he thought to himselfvenhemously.
"Eeeeeennlliiighten me on how it is seemingly eeevvveryonnnne's faultinvolved....they each are taking the blame...." she hissed. Jedaitelooked up, then at the others. If there was any surprise on his face, hehid it.
"It's true, My Queen..." blurted out Zoeisite, "If I hadn't rashlyattacked the Scouts, the mission wouldn't of failed."
"NO! It was my doing...I knew Zoeisite was..somewhat of a loosecannon. After all, I trained her. It was my fault..." Malachite said, castingalook to his lover.
"Malachite it is very honorable for you to stick up for me, but it isMyFault. I am the so called leader of this mission; I should of knownthatspliting up was unwise. Forgive me, My Queen..." Erkyte said quietly, eyes on the ground.
"I diiiiiiiiiiiid not asssssk any of yooou....I asssskedJedaiiiiiiite..." the black mist spat. All eyes turned to the blondhaired man. Jedaite bit his lip, and looked at the tense expressionsonhis three companions faces, then into the unearthly ones of hisRegent.
"Well my regent..." he said slowly, looking around at all the generalsfor a moment, "Even I cannot say that I did not hold a part of thefailure in this, I made my share of mistakes in this. Had I not letZoeisite go off by herself, we would not have been in this mess. Letusjust say, that we eached underestimated the enemy in one way oranother, and it all added up to a...a small glitch in the operation. A minoronetruly, for we have enough energy to start with...With four FULL energycrystals, this cannot possibly be seen as a failure."
Malachite caught the surprised and relieved glance of Erkyte, andsmiledslightly. So Jedaite hadn't sold them out. He was growing more andmoredelighted with the young General by the minute. Metallia hissed againslightly, and looked at her Four. "So none of you think that it is theother's faullllt..."
All them shook their heads negatively. "If anything My Queen..."Erkytesaid demurly, "It was more the fault of circumstance, rather than ourerrors." Zoeiste held her breath, while Malachite and Jedaitestiffenedslightly.
There was a slight pause, then Metallia hissed again, "Veeeery well. Icannnnnot punish allll of yoooou. But I wiiiiill be watching, and waiting. For the first one that messes up neeeext time...is asgoodas Ancient Histoooooory? Isssss that clllllear?"
"Yes My Queen...." they all chorused. Metallia left just as she came, drifting under the door in a black mist. The generals all straightedslowly, and looked at each other, baffled with each other'sperformance.
Zoiesite muttered, "What the HELL just happened?"
Erkyte leaned againist a wall, and commented, "Forgive if I'mwrong...but didn't we all just think of some reason to save the group, and not just the individual?"
Malachite sighed, and then said, "Yes, we did. But you know what thescary part was? It was the 'right' thing to do."
They all looked at each other, appraising each other silently. It wasJedaite who said, "Then let's make a pact then. We stick together, wenew 'Four'. We watch each other's backs from now on. Comrades inarms...." as he stuck his hand in the centre of the three otherbaffledwarriors.
Zoiesite tenatively put her hand in, and said, "Comrades, in arms."
Malachite put his hand in silently, and murmered, "Comrades in arms."
Erkyre crossed his arms, and looked around the group quietly. Theyheldhis gaze evenly. He smiled, and shook his head, saying, "You've come along way...baby." He stuck his hand in, and repeated like the others,"Comrades. In arms..."
The four Generals stood, smiling at each other, and feeling bonded atlast. No longer were they split by petty jealousies and power crazedleaders. Now they were a team, and they could face the Scoutstogether. One team, one planet. So much destruction to cause....
