The princess strolled leisurely through the hallways. She wore a long, water blue, silk dress that dripped all the way down to her feet; the bottom was slightly flared out and traces of white ruffles could be occasionally seen as the princess walked. It covered her just above her chests and was held up by two straps on either of her shoulders. On each strap were two jeweled buttons. Around her neck was a delicate silver necklace. On it, was a star pendant. Embedded into the star, was a circular sapphire with the sign of Mercury engraved into it. Her hair was short and blue. On her forehead was a water blue Mercury symbol. She continued walking towards end of the hall.
As she neared the end of the hall, it opened up to a large courtyard. A circle of rose bushes rung around the courtyard and roses of blue and white were closed in the slight night chill. In the middle of the courtyard was an old fountain with a statue in the middle, spouting water from its mouth. The statue was of a maiden holding a water pitcher and the crystal clear water spewed from its lip in a cascade, making tiny rainbows in the moonlight. The fountain was surrounded by Stonehenge-type monoliths and a single bench sat in front of the fountain. Roses crawled around the monoliths and up the legs of the bench.
With a sigh, the princess flopped down on the bench. She pulled off her blue high heels and tossed them aside. She stretched out and flexed her feet in the cold. With a slight effort, she reached out and dipped the tips of her toes into the water.
"Finally, some peace and quiet." sighed the princess, she looked to be about in her mid-teens.
Suddenly, she heard a soft tapping behind her. She turned to see a purple shaded figure padding down the hallway from which she had come. Whoever it was, was shaded in darkness and she couldnıt see who it was. Whoever it was though, was fairly tall, taller than her. Then, they emerged from the hall.
"Princess Mercury, we miss your presence at the ball. Come back with me, we can...chit-chat...you know...talk about something intelligent."
The princess, Princess Mercury looked inquisitively at the man. Her hair fluttered in a slight breeze and she slipped her shoes back on. With a hassled air, Mercury walked around the other side of the fountain and ran her fingers through the frothy, white water as it was being poured from the pitcher the maiden held.
"Mind if I sit down?" asked the man.
The man wandered over to the bench and sat down. He put his hands behind his head and leaned backwards on the back of the bench. His legs crossed at his ankle and knee in front of him. He yawned and had one eye open. Mercury coolly chanced a look at the man through the spray of the water.
Young man, really. He wore a white uniform, and around his shoulders was a beautiful mahogany cape. He had been wearing gloves, but he took them off and plopped them on bench seat. His brown-blonde hair was moderately curly, or more wavy. It was quite long and tied back into a very loose and sagging pony-tail. He had a fluff of bangs that were in an upside-down double-u, and a few wisps of his hair escaped his pony-tail and made a halo of gold-bronze. Although he had a slight feminine look to him, he was very handsome. His green eyes were very pretty, or so thought Mercury.
Mercury stopped staring at him and shook her head. The man smiled slightly and watched Mercury as she tried to organize her thoughts. Suddenly, she flushed in scarlet embarrassment.
"Iıd rather stay out here, itıs so much cooler and quieter." said Mercury, finally answering the young manıs first question.
"Did I disturb your solitude? Do you want me to leave?" asked the young man, he looked very sincere.
"Oh no! You can stay if you want to!" said Mercury, her soft carnation lips formed a warm smile.
"Are you sure?" the man stayed sitting, but tense.
"Yes." answered Mercury quietly.
She went to the bench and sat down. She fingered the amulet around her neck. Nervously, she looked down to her knees. "Whatıs your name?" asked Mercury, she traced an invisible pattern on her thigh.
"Zoisite. Yours? Surely you canıt be just Princess Mercury." said the man, he watched Mercury intently.
"Mizuno Ami." answered Mercury a.k.a. Mizuno Ami.
"Beauty of Water? Very pretty. A rose by any name would smell just as sweet." said Zoisite, he smiled to himself and at Ami.
Ami blushed slightly and a piece of her hair fell into her eyes. Just as she raised her hand to brush it away, she felt Zoisiteıs brush hers. Carefully, he trained it behind her ear his lips formed a small smile. Ami barely glanced at him, but she felt her cheeks burning.
"Has anyone ever told you that you are very pretty?" asked Zoisite, he ran his fingers through Amiıs hair.
"I really must go, itıs very late." said Ami nervously, she jumped up and scuttled out of the courtyard.
Zoisite watched as her figure grew darker, blurred, and finally disappeared altogether in the hall. Angrily, he smashed his fist down on the hard rock of bench. "Damn you, Zoisite! Youıre too relentless!" cursed Zoisite angrily, he got up from the bench and stormed back inside
The next morning, the princess remembered her ordeal the night before. As Ami walked from her room, she sighed in defeat. She had tried to not fall in love with the handsome young man, Zoisite, but it was too late. She had dreamed of nothing but Zoisite the entire night. He was obviously not royalty, but he was the most beautiful man she had ever seen. His muscular, yet thin physique, his waving bronze-gold hair, his perfect face, his emerald eyes danced like sun on glass; he was beautiful. Everything about him was handsome, especially his gentlemanly attitude and manners.
Slowly, Ami made her way towards a huge white staircase and took hold of the railing. At the bottom of the stairs, was Zoisite. He wore his white outfit with the mandarin collar and mahogany cape. His white shoes clicked as he walked. He was, however, walking away from the stairs.
"Who is he exactly? Where is he a from? Heıs so mysterious." said Ami softly, she put a finger to her bottom lip in thought. Suddenly, Ami got a notion. She quickly clicked down the stairs as fast as she could. She wasnıt about to let Zoisite walk away. Ami had finally decided to put her shyness aside.
"Zoisite!" called Ami, she was on the fourth step from the bottom when she tripped and began to fall. "Ahhhhhh!"
Zoisite turned. His eyes widened as he saw Ami falling. As if in slow motion, Zoisite ducked down and began to run. His muscles pumped as he dashed towards the falling princess. Then, he thrust out his arms. Not until he felt a weight smash into him, did he know that Taurus was safe. Zoisite and Ami went crashing to the ground.
Zoisite squeezed his eyes shut and landed on the ground with a thud and a grunt as his wind escaped him. Slowly, he opened one eye and looked at Ami. She had fallen on top of him and stared down at him, wearing a face of surprise. Her mouth was slightly parted as she gasped for air and her blue eyes were wide open. Each of her hands were pressed into Zoisiteıs shoulders. The top half of her body was raised up because her elbows were locked. Her lower half lay up against Zoisiteıs.
"This...this position is..." whispered Zoisite quietly, Ami pretended she didnıt hear him. Zoisite lay with his upped body raised on his elbows, his elbows had taken the fall. The rest of him lay sprawled out beneath Ami. His eyes were wide too, and his mouth was open in a small gape. Ami suddenly shook her head and got off of Zoisite. Zoisite still lay on the ground. A pink line of embarrassment reddened across Amiıs face.
Bashfully, she clasped her hands in front of her and avoided looking at Zoisite. Her smile was small, but apparent. "Thank-you, Zoisite-san. Thank-you for saving me." said Ami, she thrust out one of her hands.
Zoisite lurched forward and stood up without the help of Ami. He gaped, looking at Ami. She looked even more beautiful in the light of day. More beautiful than he could have ever imagined. From her perfect figure to her perfect apparel. Everything about her was perfect. "Y-Youıre...pretty." breathed Zoisite, he stumbled forward slightly and stared.
"Thank-you." answered Ami quietly, her blush deepened.
Suddenly, she felt Zoisite take her in his arms and she felt herself being pressed up against the banister of the stairs. Nervously, she looked up at Zoisite. His eyes were wide with a hopeful look.
"Princess, I love you." said Zoisite, he leaned down and kissed Ami passionately.
Ami broke away gasping. She turned and saw Zoisite. When he had been so close so her, she had smelled his intoxicating aqua sweet cologne and the scent of his fresh clothes. The mixture of scents had been over-powering. Ami quickly ran past Zoisite, heading for the courtyard. Her blue slippers clicking as she dashed down the hall. Her arms were flailing slightly at her sides as she carried them prissily. Her short hair waved behind her, looking like a miniature ocean.
"Wait!" called Zoisite, he took off running after.
In heels, Ami wasnıt going very fast, so Zoisite quickly caught up with her. With a leap, he wrapped his arms around Ami and took her down as if he was tackling an opponent in a football game. They went crashing to the ground as before, except Ami felt the full weight of the fall. Quickly, Zoisite picked himself up and stood up Ami as well.
"I...I wish youıd stop running from me." said Zoisite, he brushed his hands against the side of Amiıs face, making a shiver blast up her spine.
"...Youıre...a guardian." said Ami, out of breath.
"Is this what itıs all about? Stature? Class? Ami-hime, I thought you could see past all that." said Zoisite sadly and shaking his head.
Zoisite gave Amiıs arms a quick squeeze before he let go. He turned away from her and began to walk in the opposite direction. Though he was a strong man, he felt tears well up in his eyes. He swallowed and with a gloved hand, brushed them away. A silver tear stain was on the back of his right glove. Suddenly, he heard something. Turning his head ever so slightly, he caught a glimpse of Ami. She was collapsed on the floor staring after him and sobbing. Her heart felt as if someone had ripped it out and then had proceeded to tear it apart. Zoisite suddenly felt his guilt, like a sick feeling, nearly making him pass out.
"Ami-chan...has anyone ever told you that youıre very pretty?" asked Zoisite through his tears, which he now let fall and splatter shamelessly to the floor.
Ami choked back a sob for a few seconds, and then, smiled through her sadness. She even started to laugh a little. She wiped he tears away.
"Yes, you have." smiled Ami, Zoisite went to her and knelt down.
"Good. Iım glad I did." said Zoisite quietly, he brushed his lips over Amiıs hair, it smelled like violets, a soft and beautiful scent.
Suddenly, Ami felt Zoisiteıs hands on each side of her face. With a small jerk, he pulled her to his lips and kissed her. Both smiled as they were in each othersı arms.
