The Delta Quadrant has never brought good tidings to the Alpha Quadrant. First the V'ger Probe nearly destroyed Earth, then the Borg began to do much the same, having nearly succeeded in assimilating Earth before the warp-drive age. One of the agents of chaoes and destruction in the Delta Quadrant was the highly-evolved entity "The Caretaker". The entity swept the USS Voyager 70,000 light years off of its course into the very ends of the Delta Quadrant on her maiden voyage, from whom no transmission had been received since. Though Deep Space Nine has never had much cause to worry about dangers from the Delta Quadrant, (the Dominion were more than a handful already) their flagship "The Defiant" owes its existence indirectly to the Borg threat.
