Bright morning sunshine
slants through the blinds
lighting up what has been lit before,
a tree decked in silver and gold
hung with bells and balls so bold.
A scattering of paper
wrapped neatly the night before
litters the floor in vast decoration,
a sign of merriment and delight,
signs that Santa came last night.
What best presents were received?
The toys or the clothes?
No, surely the jewels shining bright?
The knickknacks perhaps?
Look around once more to see…
My mother is smiling brightly, rivaling the tree,
my father looks shy as my brother grins evilly,
my cat and dog are laying nearby.
The warmth of hearts close at hand,
are the best gifts ever in any land.
Merry Christmas.
