Julia Ecklar's CD, Balance

Her first CD in over 10 years!

Julia Ecklar came into the West Coast filk community around 1986, I think. First time she sang at us, her voice blew me away. She sounded like she was a classically-trained singer with the tremolo and vibrato and all those other words. It also didn't hurt that she was doing stuff which was really good. In the early 1990's, she became a writer-type person, and has written several books under her own name and in a collaborative effort with someone whose name I don't know, under the nom de plume L.A. Graf, which stands for Let's All Get Rich And Famous! As a result, she hasn't been around the filk community in over 10 years. I, for one, miss her. She does good stuff.

"Balance" is a compilation of live performances from the 1980's. If you're expecting "perfect" quality, it's not here. These performances are from the days when one used those big reel-to-reel tapes to record stuff I mean, take a look at the list of engineers - it includes Chrys Thorsen, who hasn't been heard from in a good long time.

Here's the play list:

  1. The Dark is Rising
  2. Born Again Trek
  3. Enterprise
  4. When I Fly
  5. Wimp
  6. Self-Inflicted
  7. With the Trees
  8. Crane Dance/Cash Dance
  9. Catatonia County Rag
  10. The Remembering (with Joey Shoji)
  11. The Troll King's Dream
