I put out the word on rec.music.celtic that I was looking for Celtic artists who wanted to get their music out to the filk community, Ms. Maggie Carchrie contacted me via e-mail, explaining that she is a Celtic singer in New England and mostly sings in Welsh. I've received her two albums and will review them here:
The first album is called Songs the Mermaid Sang. Sometimes, keeping it simple is doing it well. Ms. Carchrie does almost all the singing, save a few tracks where friends and/or her mother sing backup vocals. Most of the songs are laid in one track - Maggie singing by herself. Sometimes she'll add in a second track - like her step dancing, her playing the bodhran, someone playing an instrument called the "clarsach" (ah, what is that?).
Maggie Carchrie and Ru Ra will be at the North Georgia Celtic Festival in Gainesville July 31 and August 1, 2004!
