MARY TRAVIS
(The Local Woman)
Mary Travis is a reporter, and owner of the Clarion News.
She is widowed with a young son, Billy, although Billy has, until recently, lived with his grandfather, Judge Oren Travis, and his wife.
Mary has been trying for a long time to make the town safe enough for her son to come and live with her and she refuses to leave the paper because it was something that her husband and her had started together.
Mary is an intelligent and feisty woman. She stands up for what she believes in and is the unofficial eighth member of the 'Seven'.
She is good friends with Vin, and is teaching him how to read and write. There is also an acknowledged but unspoken attraction between herself and Chris Larabee. She recently turned down a proposal for marriage because she is in love with Chris (who isn't? *G*).
