NATHAN JACKSON
(The Healer)
Nathan is the healer of the 'Seven'.
An ex-slave he was sent away from his family as a boy when his mother died. During the Civil War, he worked as a stretcher-bearer in the Union army, which is where he picked up his medical knowledge.
A serious man, with a good heart, Nathan's biggest regret is that his knowledge and the available equipment is sometimes too limited to help those in need.
Nathan was the original catalyst for the Seven's formation, as Vin and Chris met when they both went to save Nathan from a lynching. Somehow, although I'm not sure exactly how, Nathan already knew Josiah and brought him into the group.
The one member he does have a problem with is Ezra. There is a semi-friendship between them but Nathan disapproves (sometimes very unfairly) of Ezra's behaviour and is a little quick to judge him. Mind you, Ezra did originally refuse to ride with the 'Seven' because of Nathan's colour!
He has fallen in love with a girl, Raine, who lives in a Seminole Indian village (Ep. Pilot: Ghosts of the Confederacy). Although he does not get to see her very often, she does return the feelings.
Nathan is more of a knife-thrower, than a gunman!!
"Would one of you like to pull the knife out of that fellow and cut me loose?"
