CyberSpace Task Force GammaRanger

Data06: Severe Thunderstorm Watch

(This is the personal journal of Bryan Stone, leader of the Cyberspace Task Force GammaRanger, for April 14, 1998.

An early-morning accident left Bryan onboard the Station while he was mapping the perimeter while it was being automatically shuttled back to Cyberspace. This left Earth, and the Rangers, cleared for Beta Morphic, a Betamon who could alter his form into anyone or anything of any quanitity. He took on the form of Bryan, and hung out with the gang until his secret was inadvertently found by Eric's slap on the back. Beta Morphic revealed himself, right before the real RedJupiter reveals himself with the new GammaWeapons. Using a configuration known as the BlastDefender, the Rangers beat Beta Morphic.)

(Our story begins in the attic. Bryan has set up shop and is now tracking a very powerful storm for research.)

Bryan: (shouting) Can someone help me here?

Scottie: (coming up) A little louder, maybe? I think you haven't waken up mom yet.

Bryan: I need you to go out and get something for me. I've researched these few storms and found that the strongest is going to be on Friday.

Scottie: What's wrong with the weather channel?

Bryan: Too primitive. Besides, with all this talk about El Niņo, I figured I'd want some data.

Scottie: OK...

(Puzzled, he takes the list and goes to the electronic store, unaware of the surge of power going through the lines that night.)

Namrock: (watching from the Satellite) Behold! A Betamon powered by lightning. Rhexus, your idea is ingenious.

Rhexus: Thank you, my lord.

Galevan: I think it's a bad idea.

Rhexus: What are you talking about?

Galevan: What sense does this make?

Namrock: Think about it. Our Userworld mission is to take over the Userworld by using its vast resources. Power activates everything.

Rhexus: Not according to my latest findings... It seems that Beta Shock has to travel for another 15 minutes before he is fully energized.

(Meanwhile on Earth, Bryan and Scottie piece together the utilities bought by Scottie earlier while listening to the weather report. Laura is with the two.)

Weatherman: This electric storm seems to be one of the largest we have had over the past couple of years. By our accounts, we believe it should pass right over the outskirts of town. It should make for some fantastic fireworks, if you ask me...

Laura: Bryan, I'm a bit worried...

Bryan: Shh.. He's not finished yet.

Weatherman: As the storm approaches, we should see overcast skies and, of course, lots of lightining. The strange part is that we should see little to no rain with this system moving through. As always, we'll keep you updated. Now back to Curt and Annie in the studio.

Scottie: (to himself, giggling) I still can't believe that Annie has no idea after what we've been through with her.

Bryan: Scottie, the transistor...

Scottie: Oh, yeah... Laura, you were saying something?

Laura: Well, with all of this storm talk going around, it got me to thinking. Will anything happen to our powers?

Bryan: I'm not sure what will happen. I mean, our GammaRanger powers can last through rain, ice, fire, even lightning. But if the power goes out, then so do we.

Scottie: What do you mean?

Bryan: The source of our powers comes from Cyberspace, right. Without access to Cyberspace, it creates a lock between worlds. So anything inside the matrix stays in, but anything outside of it stays out.

Laura: Like us?

Bryan: Exactly. Once we transform, and the power goes out, we're stuck as GammaRangers until it comes back.

Scottie: And it also means that we can't access the Station until the power comes back on either. We'd best be prepared.

(Suddenly, the lights flicker.)

What was that?

Bryan: Looked like a power surge, but that's impossible! According to my calculations, the storm isn't set to begin for another 45 minutes!

Laura: I don't think this has to do with the storm.

(Aboard Satellite Namrock, the clan observes the progression of the Beta Shock.)

Galevan: This electric storm is bound to increase his power.

Rhexus: It already has, Galevan. It has increased his power to the point where he will materialize within the next 30 seconds.

Namrock: Did I hear correct? The Userworld electric storm is powering the Beta Shock sooner than expected?

Rhexus: That is correct, sire.

Namrock: On my command, activate Beta Shock.

Galevan: Right!

Chouzo: I'll come too! I can't wait to see this!

(The two head to Earth with a band of Balzac to extract the Beta Shock from the power lines. They have to find him first.)

Chouzo: So where do you think he is?

Galevan: We'll find him with this tracker Rhexus invented. There.

(The two spot a power surge on the power lines. They aim at the lines to extract the Betamon, and successfully extract him.)

Beta Shock: Ahh! Nothing like a surf around the power lines to get the juices flowing!

(As the two get acquainted, Amy and Eric get home from Calculus tutoring when they spot a wicked game afoot. They go someplace occluded as to avoid getting spotted.)

I still need more power!! Where am I going to get it?

Galevan: The storm! If we can get it a little closer a little faster...

Beta Shock: Great! I need power!

(Sensing the trouble ahead, Amy sends an E-mail to the rest of the Rangers. It reads:

From: yellowvenus@gammaproject.com
Date: Wed April 15, 1998 02:18:42 PM
To: redjupe@gammaproject.com, blueneptune@gammaproject.com, aquamerc@gammaproject.com
Subj: New Betamon

I think this new monster has something to do with the upcoming storm. We better check it out.

Amy

The three young storm watchers in Scottie's attic receive the message.)

Bryan: This storm is coming sooner than expected.

Scottie: Yeah I think I know why. Amy and Eric just spotted some Namrocks with a new Betamon.

Laura: Looks like we're going to have to put this storm watch on hold.

Bryan: I agree. I've already notified the others. Time to delete. Ranger file, DOWNLOAD!

(Three Vidwindows pop up to transform the Rangers. They are automatically transloaded to the site of danger.)

GreenMars: I don't get it... It was here. I saw it!

RedJupiter: What just happened? Amy?

YellowVenus: The monster was sorta here... Then it was sorta not.

RedJupiter: Just as I thought.

BlueNeptune: You know what we're dealing with here?

RedJupiter: Afraid so. A Class A Beta Shock. There are only three like it. Namrock must have made a facsimile when he heard about the ionic storm.

BlueNeptune: He sounds smart.

RedJupiter: He is. We might need a new weapon.

AquaMercury: Well first we have to find it. Where do we start?

RedJupiter: How about Mars, Neptune, and Venus stay on ground while Beta Shock is traveling the wires. Mercury, come with me.

(AquaMercury goes with RedJupiter to the attic to track Beta Shock. Meanwhile, the other three track the Betamon using their Cyber Loaders.)

BlueNeptune: Amy, anything?

YellowVenus: Not yet, Scottie. I hope the others are having better luck.

(The three Rangers continue their search in the city. Meanwhile, the other two Rangers, in human form, search via Bryan's laptop.)

Laura: How did you manage to get a grid of the power circuits in the city?

Bryan: This is a split feed from the Station. When it was created, it automatically scanned the city perimeter, ultimately capturing the main utilitites, including water, subway, and phone and light. I do this to scan for abnormal activity... (Sees a blip move through the power grid) ... Like that! (points at the blip)

Laura: (in a sly tone) We got 'em!

(Just then, the storm comes and the power goes out.)

(in an equally as sly tone) We had 'em! Let's hope the others are having better luck.

(BlueNeptune receives the same feed from the Station, with the same results.)

BlueNeptune: I lost the feed! The power must have gone out! But then again, I know where Beta Shock is. Twelfth and Union, let's go, guys!

(The three transload to the street corner, where, sure enough, Beta Shock is forced out of the power grid because of the blackout.)

YellowVenus: Where do you think you're going?

Beta Shock: Well I thought I'd cause a little damage while I was here. You?

GreenMars: Well we thought we'd stop you.

Beta Shock: Oh yeah? Well as long as there is a bit of power left in these lines, you'll have to catch me before you can get me! (tries unsuccessfully to catch a fallen power line).

GreenMars: Face it, you're stuck.

Beta Shock: No, just means you're in bigger trouble than you thought. (reaches out an extended arm to YellowVenus and turns up his electric shock) Shocking, isn't it?

YellowVenus: Not bloody likely. VenusPulse, download! (The weapon appears in her hand and she jabs the electric arm with it.)

Beta Shock: Ahh! My arm!

YellowVenus: Can't take it, can't we?

(Bryan and Laura, on the other hand, are having troubles of their own, as they keep flashlights in hand.)

Bryan: There has to be a way to generate enough power for us to transform.

Laura: What about that transistor? I think it still has some juice.

Bryan: I hope it works. (hooks up the transistor to the laptop and turns on both of them.)

Laura: Anything?

Bryan: Got it! Now let's see if we can transform. But we better hurry. The transistor has approximately ten minutes of power in it. (Ranger stance) Ranger file, download!

(Bryan and Laura transform and bring in the Station as the other three Rangers fight the Beta Shock.)

RedJupiter: Laura, dispatch MD TurboJet-5 now!

AquaMercury: On it, Bryan. (runs out of the command room to her designated mech, MD TurboJet-5. The CruiserJet rises out of GreenMars' MD CruiserTank-3. AquaMercury flies around Beta Shock, shooting at him.)

AquaMercury: You want a shock? Check this out! (continues shooting while RedJupiter, JupiterSaber in hand, arrives onto the scene.)

RedJupiter: I figured I'd just drop in. And when I heard you were here...

Beta Shock: So you want some of my shock too, I see. Let's do this.

(RedJupiter and Beta Shock fight one on one. Then Galevan and Chouzo arrive with the Beta Blaster.)

Galevan: BETA SHOCK!

Beta Shock: Hm... Beta Blaster. A shock on a bigger scale!

Chouzo: You're not kidding, buddy. Beta Shock! Beta Blast! (Fires the Beta Blaster, growing Beta Shock to a much larger proportion.)

Beta Shock: Now I've got a shock for you!

AquaMercury: Please, enough with the puns! (Fires again before rejoining the Station.)

RedJupiter: Now she has the right idea. To the Station, guys!

All Rangers: Right!

(The GammaRanger team prepare to dock the Station and take their respective spaces in the command cockpit.) RedJupiter: Unzip MegaDriver sequence!

Voice: MegaDriver sequence unzipped.

(MegaDriver forms from the different pieces of the Station. The CruiserTanks formed the legs, the PowerJets formed the arms, and the MD Ship formed the torso and head.)

Rangers: MegaDriver ready!

Beta Shock: Now that's a hunk of metal! Shocked the heck out of me, I'll tell ya!

GreenMars: That's it... Guys, I wanna take this bad boy out just to shut him up!

(All the Rangers agree as the two behemoths clash in a battle frenzy. The Rangers get the hides tanned when Beta Shock pulls out another bad pun.)

Beta Shock: This is what I call a lightning war!

BlueNeptune: That's it! The storm is what's energizing him!

AquaMercury: But we can't just wait him out. In three minutes, Megadriver is going back to Cyberspace... with us in it!

RedJupiter: Maybe we don't have to. AntiSaber, download! (AntiSaber forms.) now if we can get it into the storm, we can overload him!

(MegaDriver aims the sword up at the storm and bombards it with energy from it. Now MegaDriver prepares to launch the AntiSaber at Beta Shock.)

RedJupiter: How's this for a shocker? (The sword hits his chest and goes through it.)

Beta Shock: Hey! This isn't funny!

YellowVenus: Not so funny on the receiving end, isn't it?

(The Rangers watch as MegaDriver defeats yet another Betamon.)

RedJupiter: We've got 30 seconds! Let's get out of here!

(The Rangers evacuate to the ground.)

We made it... Barely. Ranger file shutdown!

(The team transforms back into humans in time to see the Station return to Cyberspace. Meanwhile, the Namrocks watch as their creation succumbs to yet another defeat.)

Galevan: All that power. And he can't even defeat the GammaRanger!

Namrock: Too much power is often a hindrance.

Galevan: But, master! What of the GammaRanger?

Namrock: We will just have to continue. We always continue where we left off.

Galevan: They think it's over... Not by a longshot!

(The Rangers on Earth anticipate with awe the retun of their power and light.)

Scottie: So, any more storms in the future?

Bryan: I hope not. That last one was pretty powerful.

Amy: Yeah, almost took us out.

Eric: I'm glad this whole Betamon thing is over, though. No more shock rock. (hits himself repeatedly) Unh! Now he's got me doing it!

Rangers: (laughing)

(While the Rangers laugh at Eric's unnecessary joke, the lights come back on and everyone cheers. All is once again well in the city of Tradewinds.)

Fin... for now....
