(This is the personal journal of Bryan Stone, leader of Cyberspace Task Force GammaRanger; entry for April 28, 1998.
A bridge was mysteriously blown up while Eric and Laura were testing the new Server Cycle prototype program. It was aimed at claiming Nora Bailey and her ten-year-old son, Peter. It was later discovered that the viral code used to create Beta Shock was used to create the Betamon, Beta Bomb. Peter came to the house to tell us. We searched the site and found Beta Bomb. It was a fierce battle, but the Rangers and I came through thanks to the new MD Cannon.)
Bryan: (To Amy) You know, this is the speed of a slow car in 25 years...
Amy: (Laughing) Will you stop thinking about what will happen 25 years and start having some fun now?
(Some more fun occurrences...)
Scottie: (after successfully shooting a basketball into a net) Here, Laura. This big doggie belongs to you. (smiles as Laura wraps her arms around his neck).
Laura: Uhh... Amy can you hold my 'big doggie'? (laughing as Peter rushes in from the Zipline roller coaster)
Peter: Hey guys! That was so awesome!
Bryan: Hey Pete! Where's Eric? Wasn't he with you?
Peter: Yeah. He was behind me. Where is he?
Eric: (entering from bathroom) Guys, I don't feel so good. I think I better sit the next one out.
Scottie: Have it your way, dude.
(As they all head for the log flumes, Eric is left by himself to wait on them. Suddenly something attracts his attention near the bumper cars. He goes up close to see it.)
Eric: (to himself) What was that? (Out loud) Hello?
Mysterious voice: Eric Moriboshi?
Eric: (turns around) Yeah, I'm Eric Moriboshi. Who are you?
Voice: The question is "WHERE am I..."
Eric: Bryan? Scottie? Aw, c'mon guys, you can't fool me. I've seen "Scream" five times.
Voice: You only wish it was one of your friends.
(Suddenly a crane comes and grabs Eric. The crane and Eric disappear to a disclosed location. Meanwhile, the scene cuts to the another side of the park, where the Namrocks are discussing th orders of the day.)
Rhexus: The energy is almost up to its peak.
Chouzo: What energy? What peak?
Rhexus: The energy to the new Betavirus I planted in the park. It took a machine and turned it into a jailer. (hears beeps) And it looks like he caught himself his first victim!
Galevan: Probably a fly or something. (looks at the screen) Hmm... Five foot nine... 145 pounds... That's a big fly.
Voice from Rhexus' communiicator: Galevan, you jealous null.
Namrocks: Lord Namrock!
(His face appears on the communicator screen. Galevan pushes a button to open a DWC)
Rhexus: My new Betavirus had been absorbing life energy from the Users and now, he captured his first User. I wonder who it is. (Looks at the DNA screen.) Amazing...
(Back in the park, Peter notices that Eric is missing.)
Peter: (to others) Has anyone seen Eric since we got off the log flume?
Laura: Don't worry. He's probably out buying a funnel cake or something.
(The scene cuts to an unknown field, where Eric is half-sitting, half-lying on the ground, wondering where he is.)
Eric: Hmm... Strange.
Voice: You don't know strange. (A crane game machine comes out.)
Eric: A crane game?!
Voice: You only wish. As soon as I have a little of your 'angst,' I will be your worst nightmare.
(He begins to zap Eric, sucking the life out of him. Eric struggles for his File Coin as Beta Crane materializes.)
Eric: Mars file...
Beta Crane: Oh, no you don't! (uses his crane to grab him)
Eric: (still struggling) Down... Down... Aww, to hell with this!
(Eric snaps his crane cord shut. He is released, but still trapped for now. Eric is so mad now that he begins to fight him without transforming.)
Beta Crane: Aren't we brave. But I'll show you brave! (Opens a rift into Userspace. Eric and Beta Crane escape out of the rift. People begin to run. The kids see Eric and Beta Crane fighting.)
Amy: Mrs. Bailey, you better take Pete home. (ushers them off) Bryan, are we clear?
Bryan: I think so. Ranger file download!
(The four Rangers transform and charge the beast, trying to separate Beta Crane and Eric.)
Eric: Bryan, what are you doing?
RedJupiter: I'd like to ask you the same question, Moriboshi. This is Ranger business; why didn't you transform?
Eric: Believe me I tried, but this guy is... (watches as Beta Crane decimates the park) well, look at him!
RedJupiter: I'll deal with you later. But now, we have a job to do. Are you sure you're sane enough to do it, Eric?
Eric: Let's hit it. Mars file, Download! (Eric transforms.)
RedJupiter: Now let's see you handle all five Rangers! (Five Rangers pose)
Beta Crane: I would love to, but I have more life energy to collect for my master! (The Betamon disappears.)
GreenMars: I could have taken him in the other dimension.
BlueNeptune: No, Eric. You couldn't have taken him by yourself and you certainly couldn't have taken him without your powers.
(GreenMars pauses for a moment of deep thought. The scene cuts to an abandoned warehouse, where Rhexus is alone documenting the increased energy gain and reporting it to Lord Namrock.)
Rhexus: 200... 300... 400 Joules and rapidly excelling! Lord, it's hungry! What willwe do with such energy?
Namrock: What we came to Userspace to do, Rhexus. Use their own resources to reduce the Users to slaves to our will. Now tell me, dear boy. What of the Ranger?
Rhexus: GreenMars has escaped the other dimension.
Namrock: I'm sending Galevan to assault the others. No doubt the Rangers have a punishment that will irk young Eric.
(Cut to Scottie's house, where the Rangers and Bryan are talking about Eric. He is waiting in the living room.)
Bryan: Eric? (nothing.) You realize how irrational your actions were. (Still nothing.) I thought about suspending you from duty, but there was a better solution.
Eric: (Somber) What's that?
Bryan: Give me your Filecoin.
Eric: You're kicking me out?!
Bryan: No! I'm just saying, if you want to fight Betamons without your powers, I'm not one to stop you. Now give me your Filecoin! (Eric hands it over.) You'll get it back in a week. (Bryan heads to the door.) Eric, I want you to think about what you did and how it could have endangered innocent people. You're lucky Peter was sent home. (Exits. Cut to the hallway.)
Scottie: You sure you did the right thing?
Bryan: (after a long pause) I don't know.
(Cut to the streets of Tradewinds, where Beta Crane is rushing from corner to corner, absorbing energy at a rapid rate.)
Beta Crane: Namrock should have enough energy for his ultimate machine now. (Looks at an innocent couple) But a little more couldn't hurt! (Sucks them dry.)
(Cut to the attic, where Bryan detects the Betamon.)
Bryan: Scottie, call Amy and Laura. Tell them we have an emergency.
Scottie: Way ahead of you, dude. Hey Eric, are you coming?
Eric: No. I'll stay here.
Bryan: You sure? We might need some help.
Eric: Someone has to stay here and monitor the battle.
Bryan: Good point. Scottie... Ranger file download!
(Bryan and Scottie transform and arrive at the scene on the Server-2 with BlueNeptune. Server-3 rolls in with YellowVenus and AquaMercury.)
AquaMercury: The scanners saw him here, bt right now he's moving so fast...
YellowVenus: Can't you use your GammaScan?
AquaMercury: I'll try. (GammaScan code appears in her belt buckle.) Just a blur. I's a fast blur. Moving at 150 to 180 kilometers. He's about 20 feet away. BEHIND US!
(Beta Crane launches four cranes at the team. They're all caught.)
BlueNeptune: You think we can get free?
RedJupiter: I'd love to, but he's got my arms pinned!
(Beta Crane begins to suck the energy out of the Rangers. Cut to the kitchen, where Eric is looking in on Bryan's laptop. He notices the Rangers' predicament and recognizes Beta Crane's weakness. After thinking for a while and weighing the consequences, Eric heads up to the attic and looks by Bryan's bed for his Filecoin. He sees it in an open drawer. Cut back to the battle.)
RedJupiter: Can anyone reach their BlastDagger? AquaMercury: Almost... got it... (drops it accidentally) No!
RedJupiter: Amy... your VenusPulse...
YellowVenus: I don't know if I can...
(After all seems hopeless, from behind Beta Crane gets damaged by the MarsBreaker. It's GreenMars!)
GreenMars: You guys look like you need help. (Uses MarsBreaker to chop the crane wires. They all fall back to the ground.)
BlueNeptune: Now let's see how this guy likes it. GammaClaw, download!
(GammaClaw forms and BlueNeptune lanches it at Beta Crane.)
Beta Crane: You're acting quite foolish. Balzac!
(The Balzac appear with the Betablaster.)
YellowVenus: Oh, no you don't! (kicks the Balzac. The other Rangers fight the other Balzac. Galevan steps in and grabs the Betablaster.)
RedJupiter: Galevan has the Betablaster!
Galevan: Never send a Balzac to do a warrior's job. (throws the Betablaster at Chouzo) Chouzo, Beta blast!
(The underling blasts the two fighters. Beta Crane grows and so does Galevan, becoming Megalevan.)
RedJupiter: MD Station download!
(The MD Station appears out of the sky. RedJupiter calls for the transformation of Megadriver.)
Rangers: Megadriver ready!
GreenMars: Cruiser Rockets fire!
(CruiserRockets miss him because Beta Crane has moved.)
AquaMercury: I don't get it! Where did he go?
GreenMars: GammaLink! (GammaLink code appears in his belt buckle.) Behind us! Hard left!
(Megadriver punches Beta Crane.)
One chance left... Antisaber, download!
(The Megadriver forms Antisaber. It energizes to full power and thrusts Beta Crane, utterly decimating him.)
Megalevan: As much as I like to turn you into a giant tin can, I must leave for my master. (disappears)
RedJupiter: Eric, thanks.
GreenMars: It would be possible to be a Ranger, but to fight without the powers, then the whole idea is useless.
(Aboard Satellte Namrock.)
Namrock: So what have we gained from this experience?
Galevan: Absolutely nothing! Another Betamon is digital dust!
Chouzo: On the contrary, my text-headed friend. We now have enough energy for our next project.
(Namrock gives a taunting smile as we cut to the house. Bryan is meeting with the rest of the Rangers.)
Bryan: Eric, I know I suspension of your powers for a week, but I can't help but feel that in sneaking off to help out, you did the right thing. (turning to the Rangers and nodding) Therefore I have decided to lower your punishment to probationary status for 72 hours.)
Eric: What does that mean?
Laura: You can still be a Ranger, but no fighting by yourself. (smiles)
Eric: (laughing) You don't have to worry about that...
Amy: So... Who's up for going back to the Zone for some "night riding"?
Scottie: Alright, but you better keep Eric away from any arcades. You know, the crane game...
Eric: Oh yeah? (Eric chases Scottie into the car as the others follow them.)
