Cyberspace Task Force GammaRanger

Data09: Statuesque

(This is the personal journal of Bryan Stone, leader of Cyberspace Task Force GammaRanger, for May 5, 1998:

A day at the park turns into danger as Eric is kidnapped by a crane game machine that is later infected with the viral program of Namrock's latest Betamon, Beta Crane. Without prior thought, he engages in combat with the monster without transforming. This prompted me to take action. I took his Filecoin away. The rest of the team went off to fight Beta Crane, while Eric sneaks his coin off to join us. He uses his Mars Breaker to free us so that we can deploy Megadriver.)

(The scene: Tradewinds Town Centre. A perfect opportunity for the teens to show Bryan more Earth conventions since his arrival two months ago. Today, he sees something strange in a store window. Bryan looks puzzled.)

Amy: So how do you like it? You have to admit, it's not your rationing stations at Command Central, but... (looks around) Bryan? (looks behind) Bryan?

Scottie: Bryan?

Bryan: Oh, sorry, guys. For a moment, I thought the Namrock were here too. You can never be too sure where they will turn up.

Eric: After what happened last week, I could have told you that.

Scottie: What makes you say that?

Bryan: Well, aren't these primitive fixtures supposed to be stationary?

Amy: Well, yeah. C'mon, I'm hungry. We'll talk about it over lunch.

Bryan: Sure. Where is the mess hall?

Scottie: If you mean the food court, it's over here.

(The group goes up an escalator to the food court. Meanwhile, in a hidden file somewhere in Cyberspace, Galevan and some Balzac are collecting artifacts for a special project.)

Galevan: Be careful with those! One false step could mean erasure for the lot of us!

(The Balzac annoyedly grunt.)

Namrock needs these for the next phase of development. This will work wonders. (Holds a mysterious cube and opens a DWC™) Lord, I believe these is what you were looking for. (Points out the artifacts.)

(Namrock looks in awe at the cube. Cut back to the mall, where Bryan is still confused about what the Rangers saw.)

Bryan: Animatronic humanoid?

Eric: Naah...

Scottie: Will you stop thinking about it? They're just people like you and me. (Annoyedly takes a bite out of his sesame chicken.)

Bryan: Speaking of people, wher's Laura?

Amy: Meeting with her agent. Something about a modeling job.

Bryan: (looking at the other side of the mall) Am I going crazy again?

Eric: (also looking) I don't think so... Guys, Balzac, dead ahead.

Scottie: Let's take 'em.

(The Balzac are causing havoc amongst the townsfolk. They're smashing directory signs and breaking windows. The group arrives just in time to fight the Balzac. After a few well-timed martial arts moves, they once again retreat to Cyberspace.)

Scottie: Namrock?

Bryan: Namrock. What do you think he's up to.

Amy: Whatever it is...

(Cut to Namrock aboard his satellite.)

Namrock: This cube is what I've been looking for for ages. With it, I can activate the latest in a strain of Betavirus.

Chouzo: What plan? What virus?

Namrock: (evil laugh) You'll see.

(Back at the mall, the kids return to lunch. Laura joins them after spotting them from afar.)

Laura: Hey guys. Sorry I'm late. (group response)

Bryan: Where were you anyway? (picks up a french fry and looks at it funny)

Laura: I was at a modeling class. I do it all the time. I ran into someone who offered me a job for a weekend.

Scottie: That's pretty cool! Where?

Laura: Over there. (points at a store saying "The Boutique") Bryan: That's where I saw the animatronic.

Laura: No, that's a real person. They do tat all the time. The only thing is, they need another person so I volunteered Amy.

Amy: What?!

Scottie: What?!

Bryan: What?!

Eric: (with a burger in his mouth) I'm sorry; what were you saying?

Bryan: (after thinking a while) Laura, we were just attacked by Balzac around that store. If you and Amy are going to do this, you better be careful.

Amy: Oh, no. I'm not doing this. I'm no model.

Laura: Just follow my lead and you'll do fine.

(The following Saturday. Amy and Laura are in a store window standing and sitting absolutely still.)

Amy: (talking through her teeth) I still can't believe you're making me do this.

Laura: (talking w/o moving her lips) Give it a chance.

(Cut to Satellite Namrock)

Namrock: (Watching Amy and Laura) Hmm... Good. But you can never be too good. Beta Stopper, are you ready to spread my virus mist?

Beta Stopper: Ready and willing, sire. Where is the Viralmist?

Rhexus: It has been planted at the store window. Within moments, my lord, they will be as hard and cold as us!

Namrock: Then to Userspace with you! And take Galevan with you!

(They go to Earth to observe the two Rangers as they become permanently frozen. The other Rangers are out testing the ServerCycles for faster clock speed functions.)

GreenMars: Scottie, how fast are we going?

BlueNeptune: 52.0 kbps. That's around 300 kilometers per hour. Let's try aerial mode!

RedJupiter: Hold that thought. I'm getting a virus detection. Better send it to the girls. Let's go back guys.

(A few minutes later, at the attic. Still in Ranger costumes (without helmets), the guys look frantically for the virus.)

Bryan: (worried) I don't get it. They should've responded by now. Maybe they're still doing that job.

Scottie: Yeah, but we sent the mail to them at lunch time. It's way past lunch time. Try direct communicator.

Bryan: (opens Com-Link) Amy, Laura... Come in. (closes it) Nothing.

Eric: Maybe it has something to do with this. (points out two disturbances) This one's uniform, but this one's like a virus cloud. They're all at the mall. Near the girls! They're in danger!

Bryan: Let's roll. (puts on helmet) ServerCycles, download!

(The three jet to the mall on the ServerCycles. They make it to the mall.) RedJupiter: You two head to The Boutique to check out that cloud. I'll see the virus myself.

BlueNeptune: Okay. Good luck, Bryan.

(They run off to their locations. The two Rangers move to The Boutique to check up on the cloud sighting.)

GreenMars: I don't get it. The cloud's here, right, but I don't see it.

BlueNeptune: That's because it's invisible, generated by... (spots a ground device) that!

GreenMars: You go check up the girls. I'll destroy it. (assembles his Breaker Blast Defender and fires it while BlueNeptune goes into the store)

BlueNeptune: Maanager! Manager! (runs into the manager)

Manager: What's wrong?

BlueNeptune: There's been a virus bdetection here. I suggest that you and your customers leave at once!

(The Manager coheres with orders. Meanwhile, GreenMars joins up.)

GreenMars: The door! Get it!

BlueNeptune: Got it!

(They open door to find Amy and Laura still standing there in their fixed positions.)

(Touches Laura's face) They're cold! Are they still alive?

GreenMars: Let's see. GammaLink!

(He links to their biorhythms while BlueNeptune uses GammaRecord to eliminate the viral patterns.)

They're still alive. For now. We've got to get them out of here!

(They move the perpetual statues outside. Meanwhile, RedJupiter, Jupiter Saber in hand, goes on a virus hunt.)

RedJupiter: Alright, Betamon. Show yourself!

Beta Stopper: (rushes behind him and hits him with his scythe) Isn't a stationary Ranger a work of art?

RedJupiter: Like you would know about art.

(The two engage in a battle. It ends with RedJupiter tring to get up. After putting the girls in the side cars, BlueNeptune and GreenMars come to retrieve their leader.)

BlueNeptune: Bryan, we got the girls; let's get outta here and do something about their condition.

RedJupiter: Good (grunts) idea. (grunts) Jupiter ServerCycle download! Aerial mode!

(They narrowly escape the new Beta Stopper. Meanwhile, Namrock oversee his "special project.")

Namrock: (after looking at the project) This is the future.

(Cut to the Rangers, without their helmets, aboard the MD Station.)

Scottie: Okay, I've been able to find the inverse of the viral patterns to create a temporary antivirus, but the only true way to destroy the virus is...

Bryan: ...To destroy whatever's causing this.

Scottie: Right. Now, I've developed a full shot for only one of the girls. Or I can administer it in two half shots, but they'd have about five minutes of full motion before it wears off. (loads the antivirus in his GammaPistol)

Eric: Five minutes is better than nothing.

Bryan: I agree. Do it, Scottie.

(Scottie administers the antivirus through his GammaPistol. Laura begins to move her arms. Amy's leg starts to twitch. Within seconds, they are restored.)

Amy: Man... What a cramp.

Laura: What happened?

Eric: Do I really have to tell you?

Scottie: C'mon guys, we only have five minutes before we lose tham again.

Amy: Right. Let's hurry. (The girls take a stance) Ranger file, download!

(Laura and Amy transform as the five Rangers head toward the latest sighting of Beta Stopper.)

Beta Stopper: All five? What happened to the mist.

YellowVenus: You no longer have control over us.

AquaMercury: I want you to see how it feels to be frozen. (activates MercuryBow and aims an IceArrow)

Beta Stopper: You think that will work on me?

AquaMercury: Why don't you tell me?

(She lets several arrows fly. A few hit the monster. He falls over. Then Galevan, with Balzac, brings a Beta Blaster.)

Galevan: Namrock, thank me later. Beta Blast!

(Two Balzac aim and fire the BetaBlaster at Beta Stopper, causing him to grow.)

Beta Stopper: What?! Retreating so soon?

RedJupiter: You only wish. Back to the Station!

(The group return to the Station in time to form MegaDriver.)

Rangers: MegaDriver ready!

GreenMars: We don't have much time left, so let's send this guy packing, fast!

YellowVenus: I'm with you on that.

Beta Stopper: (after a fight) No so fast, Rangers. How will you do without your mechanical titan.

(The monster let's a beam from the cube embedded in his stomach, similar to the virus cloud that froze Laura and Amy. It freezes the MegaDriver.)

RedJupiter: We've been infected!

BlueNeptune: It gets worse. Look! (YellowVenus and AquaMercury are frozen again.) I don't know what happened. I guess exposure to the virus retarded the antivirus.

GreenMars: I can't take this anymore! ServerCycle Download!

BlueNeptune: What are you doing?

GreenMars: Trust me, Scottie. (heads to the weapons room before jumping out of MegaDriver and onto his ServerCycle)

Beta Stopper: Hmm.. I'll freeze you yet, you little fly.

GreenMars: (moving incredibly fast) You have to catch me, first!

(After flying around him for a while, GreenMars aims the assembled MD Cannon and fires, destroying the cube and freeing Amy, Laura, and the MegaDriver.)

RedJupiter: We're back in control!

GreenMars: (jumping back in his street) There. That should weaken him. Antilaser Punch program, download!

(The fists turn into claws as they are deployed. They merge with the MegaDriver's eye lasers to energize them. They go through the Beta Stopper and destroy him.)

AquaMercury: That oughta teach you to mess with something I get paid for.

BlueNeptune: Laura, (laughing) that made absolutely no sense.

(An hour later, Laura is back in the window. This time, all of the Rangers are watching her.)

Eric: You think if I did this... (feigns a Three Stooges eye poke while everyone--except Laura--laughs.)

Amy: Well she can have her freeze modeling. It's not me, although I did do a good job.

Scottie: Was this before or after the viral gas? (group laughs while Amy smirks)

Manager: It's great, isn't it?

Scottie: You have no idea. You think we can get inside and talk to.

Manager: Sorry, the only people that can talk to her are...

Bryan: That's okay... (everyone starts backing away slowly) Never mind.

(The site of the project.)

Galevan: Keep working! Worthless! You'll have to make this one up seriously!

Namrock: Now, now, Galevan. We have to keep our wits about us.

Rhexus: It's almost complete. All we need now is a power source.

Namrock: A power source...

Fin... for now...
