Cyberspace Task Force GammaRanger

Data27: Visions of a GammaRanger

(This is the personal journal of Bryan Stone, leader of Cyberspace Task Force GammaRanger, for July 31, 1998:

The powers of NetDriver were proven to be of good use when we piloted it to victory against Betagotch. But still, our worries weren't over yet, because as soon as we were done with one, Namrock sent two to finish us. The weird thing was we thought we already defeated them! Well, when push comes to shove, we knew what we had to do. We managed to get a digital armor antivirus from the fight and with it, we defeated the two monsters once and for all.)

(The scene, the bedroom of Amy Berry. All ready for bed, Amy sits herself down in her bed to get comfortable.)

Amy: (thinking) Hard day. Gotta get ready for college soon. (starts mumbling) Really tired.

(Amy begins to pull the covers over her body, as she lays down for a well-deserved rest. A couple of hours later, an eerie light appears from her hallway. Amy is awaken by it. Like a zombie, she heads for the door, rubs her eyes, and sees something peculiarly familiar.)

Amy: S... Sei?

Sei: Amy... Why?

(Amy looks puzzled by the vision.)

(quietly) You said you'd protect me!

Amy: But we did! The DaemonRanger were defeated a long time ago!

Sei: But what about me?

Amy: You... you were...

Sei: You said you protect me! Why did you let me die?

(With that final word echoing in her mind, Amy immediately wakes up to find that the vision was merely a dream.)

Amy: What?

(Struggling out of bed and into some yellow sweats, she transloads to the NetStation, where Bryan is writing in his journal of the day's events. He is surprised to see Amy in the transloader deck.)

Bryan: Amy! What are you doing here? It's 2:30.

Amy: Call me early for tomorrow. (yawns) I'm surprised you haven't asked yourself that question. Even superhero pilots from the twenty-first century need rest.

Bryan: Thanks a lot, mom. I was catching up on my journal. What about you?

Amy: I had a strange dream.

Bryan: Why are you telling me?

Amy: Sei was in my dream whispering something about letting her die.

(All of a sudden, Bryan gains interest.)

Bryan: Tell me about this dream.

(The next day, Amy wearily meets the others at the Town Centre.)

Jill: Amy! You're looking... well... you match.

Amy: Oh, quiet, you. I was awake all night trying to get my mind straightened out.

Scottie: Straightened out? Do we have to talk?

Amy: No, and you know what? I don't want to talk about it. I have some papers to fill out and (yawn) a nap to catch. See ya.

(She leaves for her house as everyone else looks at Bryan.)

Bryan: What?

(Listening as the team was talking, and watching Amy as she was leaving, a toy display at "Toys-o-Rama" seems to glow red and disappear. Where is it headed? The Satellite, of course.)

Galevan: Beta Bear, what did you see?

Beta Bear: Just a human mentioning her dreams, nothing about Hexalink.

Galevan: Was it one of the Gamma Users?

Beta Bear: I've never even seen a Gamma User out of costume.

Namrock: What's this, Galevan? (emerges from the darkness) Another plan to foil your new partner?

Galevan: Please... I'm over that mishap. This new Betamon was sent on a reconnaisance mission to find the Gamma Users.

Namrock: How could he get to earth without being detected by the Gamma Users?

Beta Bear: Simple, sire. I have an alternate form. (changes into a teddy bear)

Hexalink: (arriving) Now this is just pathetic. Using a teddy bear to plague Userspace?

Rhexus: That's no ordinary bear, Namrock. I created it so it wouldn't be detected upon entry to Userspace. Chouzo has already taken the Balzac to Userspace to implant it.

(And, sure enough, the giant teddy bear is returned to its place in the display case at the mall, just in time for it to close. The three females wait outside for Eric to come pick them up.)

Jill: So you're seeing Sei in your dreams?

Amy: Yeah. It's like a dream, but it's too real not to be a dream!

Jill: Ohh... kay.

Laura: Is it like when I see Scottie in my dreams?

Amy: It's more real than that, I'm sure.

Jill: So what did Sei say?

Amy: She said that it was our fault that Sei died.

Laura: Sei can't die. She's a holographic representation of a test subject program. (everyone looks at Laura with strange awe) Well, I can be smart too, you know!

Amy: I'm just worried she'll appear again tonight.

(Eric comes in his car and picks the girls up.)

Eric: (from inside the car) So, did you talk about the "ooohhh, scary dream!"

Amy: You know what you can do with that "ooohhh scary dream" business.

(A few hours later, at Amy's house, she is sleeping next to her nightstand, which has a lamp, her alarm clock, her picture of her family in an illuminated frame, and her Cyber Loader. From the hallway comes a strange lighting unlike any of her objects on the nightstand, but same as before. She wakes up, turns on her lamp, grabs her Cyber Loader, and heads for the source of the blue light. Like the previous night, she sees Sei, lying on the ground reaching for Amy, somberly whispering.)

Sei: Why did you let me die?

Amy: No! We tried to save you and now your spirit lies within the GridRanger.

Sei: You said you'd protect me.

Amy: Isn't any of this getting through to you?

Sei: You don't understand! I have no power! I lost it all with the SkyStation. Therefore I am dead. And it's your fault!

Amy: No! We tried... (starts talking like she's about to cry)

Sei: You said you'd protect me!

(Unable to move, Amy sharply opens her eyes to find that she's still in her bed, but this time, she is wearing her Cyber Loader, something she didn't go to bed with. Thinking that it's not a total waste, she uses it to send a message.)

GammaRanger E-mail Amy Berry

From: yellowvenus
To: netstation
Date: Aug 02, 1998 02:43:21
Subject: The Dream...

I had that dream again. Only it was more dangerous. We need to do something about it. This time she mentioned the SkyStation.

Amy L. Berry

(Just as in the night before, Bryan is in the Netstation loging down the day's events in his journal. His Cyber Loader goes off. As soon as he finishes activating the message, he heads to the transloader bay to transload a direct link to the relative location of Amy's Cyber Loader, Amy's bedroom)

Amy: Bryan? That's it. No more sushi for dinner for me.

Bryan: I received your message. I cam as soon as I... (Tries to shield his eyes while Amy puts her sweatshirt over her pajamas) Oh.. sorry!

Amy: It's okay, Bryan. But you better sit down. This dream is too weird.

(The next day, Bryan meets the Rangers on the bridge of the NetStation to discuss Amy's recurring dream.)

Scottie: So, you're saying it's too real to be a dream?

Amy: Way too real.

Jill: Sounds like hallucinogenic impurities caused by stress.

Amy: What?

Jill: Just a theory.

Bryan: If this dream is real, then we better catch it. Amy, you have space in your room for five more people tonight?

Amy: Oh, NO! You guys are freaking crazy...

Eric: We're not sleeping over, it's like when you see the dream, you can give us a signal.

Scottie: And then, we can catch the dream!

Amy: Oh, well... All right, but... (whispering) no one hears about this.

(That night, the Rangers stay aboard the Netstation while waiting to hear from Amy.)

Laura: (stumbling) More cappucino, anyone?

Scottie: Make mine a double. (nudges Eric) Eric...

Eric: (wakes up alertly) I'm okay.

Bryan: Come on, guys. You act like you've never stayed up late before.

Jill: That's because we haven't! (Her Grid Loader sounds)

Bryan: It's Amy. We gotta move.

Laura: Should we transform?

Bryan: Wouldn't hurt.

(The Rangers transform and race down to the residence of the Berrys. The GammaRanger team are transloaded to the hallway where Amy once again confronts Sei's essence.)

Amy: There has to be something I can do to help you, but you have to understand that we did not kill you!

(The Rangers appear out of the sky.)

GridRanger: Amy! We got your signal. This is the dream?

Amy: Yeah, but it's no dream. Look.

Sei: I need power!

RedJupiter: Listen, if you stop scaring the living daylights out of my friend here, you would realize that you have more power than you can imagine!

(Sei pauses in thought.)

While you went down with the SkyStation, we put what was left of your powers into good use.

GridRanger: He's right. Your power lives on inside all of us! Including yourself!

Sei: You are right. I am but a young essence. And when I see you, GridRanger, I see the spirit of my fight living on inside of you. I am sorry, YellowVenus.

Amy: Apology accepted.

Sei: Now it is my duty to warn you of an impending evil. All is not right within the Cyberspatial bounds

BlueNeptune: What do you mean?

Sei: In order to prevent being detected, Namrock has sent down a new Betamon in the form of a children's plaything.

AquaMercury: Do you know where it is?

Sei: Use what you know... and what you have learned... (disappears)

GreenMars: Come on, guys. Let's go before I get tired again.

Amy: But where?

Bryan: A children's plaything... If it is true that Namrock always knows where we are then... Ccome on, guys! We gotta get to the town center!

Amy: All right, just let me change.

Bryan: Oh, please don't.

Amy: Not like you haven't seen it before. Venus Ranger file, download!

(Amy transforms and all six Rangers take the Netstation to Tradewinds Town Centre. They transload in front of the Toys-O-Rama store and watch as Balzac reconfigure the display case.)

BlueNeptune: It's locked tight! How do we get in?

GreenMars: Without breaking anything?

YellowVenus: Maybe I can help. Venus Charge, download!

(The VenusCharge appears on her gauntlet. She uses it to pick the lock of the store. They enter the store to find that they have tripped the alarm. The Balzac catch word of this and start running out of the door. The security guards and the police are waiting in the mall's courtyards.)

RedJupiter: Officers! You might want to do something with these perpetrators.

Officer: Yes, GammaRanger. But the only problem is, what?

(As he says that, they disappear.)

RedJupiter: I guess that answers your question. Now if you'll excuse me...

(The monster forms out of the display case in front of the rest of the GammaRangers.)

YellowVenus: A children's plaything. Yeah. I'm sure.

Beta Bear: I'm about to be bigger than the N-64!

RedJupiter: Not if we stop you first!

(While the Rangers fight off the Beta Bear with their Ranger Daggers, a left over Balzac readies the Beta Blaster for a growth spurt.)

BlueNeptune: Finished yet?

(A Beta Blast appears out of the corner. When Beta Bear grows, he crashes through the roof of the mall and into the moonlight.)

Beta Bear: I'm just getting started! (shoots a claw at them)

AquaMercury: Not so hot when he's alive, huh?

RedJupiter: No kidding. Let's get to the Station! Jill, you know what to do!

GridRanger: Gotcha! (pushes the four buttons on her Grid Loader) GridTitan download!

(The NetStation and GridTitan move out of Cyberspace and next to the mall, where they break off into six separate fighting machines.)

Rangers: Let's lock and upload!

(The five NetMechs come together to form the NetDriver. GridTitan moves into position and fires on the monsters.)

Beta Bear: Aww, come on! Have a ball! (throws a ball at the NetDriver)

GreenMars: You know, I've just about had it with these toys!

RedJupiter: I agree! Let's move!

(The NetDriver begins its fight with Beta Bear, but the armor proves to be too much, as the giant claws pin NetDriver down.)

GridRanger: No! My friends are in trouble!

(Suddenly, Sei appears in about 12 inches tall form on the console.)

Sei: Use what you know...

GridRanger: Sei? Right! Mode Two! Download!

(GridRanger calls forth the transformation from GridTitan Tank Mode to Mode Two GridTitan.)

Mode Two GridTitan, ready! Download Titan Lancer!

(The Titan Lancer forms from the two swords in GridTitan's side. He uses the Lancer to get his claws off of NetDriver's chest plate. He also proceeds to slicing the claws off of the Beta Bear, who is now wincing in enormous pain.)

RedJupiter: We gotta get back up!

YellowVenus: Got it, boss. Antirod, download!

(The Rangers return NetDriver to its feet and call for the Antirod, which is charging its tri-blade head for one blast.)

RedJupiter: Let's send him back to Cyberspace in pieces!

Rangers: NetDriver Antirod finish, download!

(The Tri-blade head flies off of its post and through the heart of Beta Bear, making the monster's structural integrity nullified. He later explodes.)

YellowVenus: Yes! And a new day begins!

(The two robot warriors look off into the east as the sun begins to rise over Tradewinds. Later that morning, the Rangers meet again at the town centre, more weary than usual.)

Eric: Scottie... Laura's on your shoulder.

Scottie: (looks as Laura sleeps on his shoulder) So?

Bryan: Should we get you a teddy bear?

Jill: You mention bears again and I'll slap you.. just as soon as I wake up.

(Just then, Amy walks in as chipper as chipper can get.)

Amy: Hey guys! What's up? It's a good thing the constructors are working hard on rebuilding the town center. So how are you guys?

(Everyone looks at them and, after a while, throw their shopping bags at Amy.)

Was it something I said?

Fin... for now...
