(This is the personal journal of Bryan Stone, leader of Cyberspace Task Force GammaRanger, for August 8, 1998:
Eric wanted to take matters into his own hands when his brother was taken into Cyberspace by the latest of the Betaviruses. He and Jill get their chance when they go into Cyberspace to chase the virus. They manage to bring the Beta Knight out to our world, where we used our resources to defeat the monster.)
(The scene: Tradewinds Shores. Some action involving a group of local teenagers who worship and take after vampires takes place before a roaring fire under the boardwalk.)
"Vampire" #1: Tomorrow is the night of the full moon. You know what we do every full moon.
"Vampire" #2: We go and feed off of the souls of the living.
"Vampire" #1: And why do we do this ritual?
"Vampire" #3: So that we ourselves can live.
Girl "Vampire": And so that we can infiltrate the souls of the people who ridicule us.
(The "Vampires" keep talking while Hexalink observes.)
Hexalink: Infiltration... Heh heh... The understatement of the year.
(Hexalink retires to the Satellite to begin preparing a Betavirus for an attack. The next day, the GammaRanger meet at Scottie's garage to pack up for their trip to the same beach where the gang of "vampires" met the previous night.)
Scottie: So, we're all packed?
Bryan: Not me. I forgot one thing, my laptop.
Scottie: Don't you mean my laptop?
Bryan: See? You're thinking like a typical college guy already! (smiles)
Amy: So it's a thirty-minute trip to Tradewinds Shores, so should we leave after lunch?
Laura: Sounds good to me. So let's hurry up and eat so we can hurry up and go.
(Everyone agrees and heads inside for lunch, except Jill and Amy.)
Jill: Where did you say we were going?
Amy: Tradewinds Shores, why?
Jill: I lived there before I came to Tradewinds. They have stories about what happens at the beach at night.
Amy: Like what?
Jill: They have a group of gothic freaks there who claim to know what you think. They practically worship vampires.
Amy: Sounds pretty farfetched.
Jill: Well, it's just what I heard. Maybe another legend, but I'm telling you, if it's true...
Amy: You're forgetting! We're GammaRangers! If it's all true, we can take care of them faster than you can say "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
Jill: I don't know, I mean, I'm kinda apprehensive about using my powers to harm innocent people.
Amy: Well, now that you put it that way...
(About an hour later, Hexalink begins training with his new monster.)
Hexalink: And now... Attack me!
(The giant vampire bat, known as Beta Vamp, morphs from a vampire-like being to a giant bat and begins to hover toward Hexalink, striking him with a loud screech.)
Hexalink: Not bad. But you need to think with stealth. We shall continue this later. Now I shalll continue making adjustments to your program.
Beta Vamp: (reverting to humanoid form.)
Yes, Hexalink. (returns to the screen as Namrocks enter.)
Namrock: So how's our new monster?
Hexalink: He needs more programming, but when it is done, not even the Gamma Users will be able to beat him.
Galevan: Call me a skeptic, but I don't think that being dead will stop the Gamma Users from beating him.
Rhexus: According to my calculations, success rate of the Beta Vamp in its present form is 43.6 percent.
Namrock: You have some work to do, Hexalink.
Hexalink: I'll do it! Just give me some time. Send out the Balzac or something.
Namrock: I'll send the orders around here. Chouzo, send out the Balzac or something.
Chouzo: At once, sire.
(Chouzo sends the Balzac to search for more silicon for the Beta Vamp. Galevan decides to go with him. The first place they turn for silicon is the fresh sands of Tradewinds Shores.)
Galevan: Move out of my way, Users! I am on a mission for my master!
(The Balzac begin to terrify the local townsfolk. The GammaRangers just begin to set up their beach house when they hear the sound of people screaming.)
Eric: Did you guys hear that?
Jill: Sounds like trouble.
Scottie: (looking out the window) Yeah! Looks like it too! There's a bunch of Balzac outside!
Bryan: And I thought this was going to be a vacation. Let's move guys.
(The Rangers move out to the beach where the Balzac are raiding. Galevan masterfully watches them arrive.)
Galevan: What's wrong, GammaRangers? Isn't this supposed to be a public beach?
Amy: And you're calling yourself public?
Galevan: You flatter me, young lady.
Bryan: Flatter this!
(He flips into the air and lands behind Galevan. Upon landing, he gives a kick in the back to the cyber demon. The other five begin to fight the Balzac, who are, at this time, faster than usual.)
Scottie: Yo, Eric! What's up with this?
Eric: I don't know, dude! (shouts at Balzac) Stand still so I can kick your ass!
(The Balzac continue to bob and dart, allowing the Rangers to get only a few hits in. After the Rangers are really tired, the Balzac leave with Galevan.)
Galevan: If you have problems with these, then you're all in for a treat when Namrock finises with his new Betamon! (Digiwindows out)
Laura: (breathing hard) I don't know about you, but I've had just about enough exercise. I'm gonna just skip the surfing and lay down for a while. You guys go ahead.
Scottie: Sure about that? I mean, I can stay here with you if you want.
Laura: I'd like that a lot. (smiles)
(That evening, at moonrise, the group of "vampires" meet under the pier, the same place they met last night.)
"Vampire" #1: All right. Tonight is the night. (looks around) Wait a sec. Where's Puck?
Girl "Vampire": I don't know, Nash. I thought he came here wtih you.
(Just then, a young man dressed in black gothic gear appoaches with Puck behind them.)
Young Goth: Did any of you lose someone? (throws Puck to the ground)
Nash: Wait a minute. Who are you and how did you find out about this place?
Young Goth: Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Hex. I am a child of the dark persuasion, just like you, Nash.
Nash: Wait... How did you know my name?
Hex: That doesn't matter. I have come to help you. (gives Nash his "glare")
"Vampire" #2: What the hell are you talking about?
Girl "Vampire": We want answers!
Nash: Ko! Tesha! Can it! I have a feeling that he has something we want.
Hex: You are a wise man, indeed, Nash. And so I offer you access to all the souls that you can handle.
(That night, Eric and Jill go to a beachside restaurant with Scottie and Laura, after which the four go on a leisurely walk on the beach.)
Eric: Now THIS is relaxing.
Laura: Sure is. Hey, Scottie. There's a shop up there by the pier. Let's go there. You guys wanna come?
Jill: I don't know, Laura. You want to, Eric?
Eric: No, let's stay here while Laura and Scottie go.
Scottie: All right, then. We'll meet you by the 12th Street Dock, okay?
Eric: All right, see ya!
(The two couples separate. Eric and Jill are left standing by the pier waiting for Scottie and Laura. Hex, Nash, and Ko are watching.)
Eric: So, how long do you think it will take?
Jill: If I know Laura, then we'd better go and get them within the next, say, thirty seconds.
Eric: Sounds like a plan to me!
(The two make their way to the shop, but, unfortunately, trouble interrupts them.)
Hex: Now!
Nash: Get him!
(Nash and Ko surround the two, showing off their overly groun nails and fake fangs, and hissing at them.)
Jill: Vampires? I told you the story was true!
Eric: There has to be a logical explanation!
Nash: What's there to know? You have been claimed!
(Laura and Scottie hear rustling in the distance and come out to help. They arrive at the pier to see Eric and Jill being harassed by the vamps.)
Scottie: Hey!
Hex: Well, two more souls to claim.
Tesha: And one of them's pretty cute! (goes toward Scottie) I'd like to get inside of your soul.
Scottie: (with silent anger) I'm spoken for.
Tesha: You don't understand. There IS no alternative.
(After she forces herself onto him, he forces a move onto her. Namely a pin to the ground.)
Scottie: I said I was taken.
Hex: I was hoping it wouldn't come to this. (pulls out a disc) Eric: This is weird, but I don't think it's Gamma business yet.
Hex: Arise Beta Vamp!
(With a charge from Hex(alink)'s sunglasses, the Betamon rises out of the disc.)
Laura: Looks like Gamma business now!
Nash: What's going on? This wasn't part of the deal!
Hex: I made my own terms.
(The Beta Vamp tries to attack the eight teenagers.)
Jill: Nash, run! Take your friends with you!
Nash: I'M NOT LISTENING TO A MORTAL!
Jill: (grasping Nash's shirt collars and drawing them toward her) Don't screw with me, boy. (throws him to the ground) Now get out of here!
(The "Vampires" make a run for the dock.)
Scottie: Are they watching?
Laura: I don't think so.
Eric: All right, then. Let's slay this guy! Ranger files, download!
(The four GammaRangers transform.)
Rangers: GammaRanger, ready!
GreenMars: Jill, go get Bryan and Amy, now!
GridRanger: Got it! (runs toward the beach house)
GreenMars: Now, let's do it!
(The Rangers begin to fight the Betamon. Then Hex steps out of the shadows and onto the scene.)
BlueNeptune: Hey! You, get out of here!
Hex: Why should I, Scottie?
BlueNeptune: How do you know my name?
(The Rangers watch as Hex reverts to Hexalink.)
Hexalink: Surprised? I didn't think so, but I had to make sure you'd know... Attack, Beta Vamp!
Beta Vamp: Of course! If I can't have their powers, I'll take their souls!
(Beta Vamp turns into a giant manta-like bat and flies toward the team.)
GreenMars: Stand back, guys! (activates Mars Breaker) I'm about to clip this guy's wings!
(He jumps into the air with the axe in his hand, expecting to literally clip his wings. He chops Beta Vamp once, but that was it before Beta Vamp's titanium talons grab ahold of him!)
Hey, you overgrown rodent! Let me go!
(Just then, GridRanger returns with RedJupiter and YellowVenus, both armed with their Blasters.)
RedJupiter: BlastSaber fire!
YellowVenus: BlastPulse fire!
(The two weapons fire off and hit the giant bat. Not olny does it let GreenMars go, but it reverts him to humanoid form.)
GreenMars: Thanks, guys. I neeed that!
GridRanger: No problem.
(Chouzo and the Balzac come in with the Beta Blaster.)
Chouzo: Okay, guys. (points at Beta Vamp) You know what to do.
(The Balzac nod in agreement and fire off the Beta Blaster at Beta Vamp. He grows.)
Beta Vamp: Who's going to clip my wings now? (laughs maniacally)
RedJupiter: I uploaded all the files onto my computer.
BlueNeptune: Don't you mean my computer?
RedJupiter: Yeah, whatever... Let's get to the Station!
(The six Rangers head toward the NetStation, which appears over a high-rise on the shore. They jump inside to fight the overgrown vampire.)
Beta Vamp: If you're trying to kill me, you should know I'm already dead.
GreenMars: Hasn't stopped us before. C'mon, guys! It's Net D time!
GridRanger: Hold on, there's something I have to take care of.
RedJupiter: I know what you mean. I'll join you later, but now, uploading NetDriver sequence!
(She jumps out of the NetStation and back to the ground to begin searching for the "vampires." Meanwhile, the NetStation breaks into its five components and comes together as the NetDriver.)
Rangers: NetDriver, ready!
AquaMercury: I think we're gonna need the AntiRod early for this battle.
RedJupiter: Wait. Let's see what kind of damage we can do first.
(The NetDriver and Beta Vamp fight to a bitter draw, until...)
Beta Vamp: All this fighting is working up an appetite!
(He clasps the NetDriver's neck with his fangs and begins sucking the energy out of it.)
RedJupiter: Status report!
BlueNeptune: Not good! Energy levels are down fifty percent!
(GridRanger looks up at the horror being done to the robot.)
GridRanger: My friends are in trouble! Gridbuckler, download! Fire!
(The blast from GridRanger's weapon frees NetDriver from Beta Vamp's grasp.)
RedJupiter: This dude's serious! Antirod, download!
(The Antirod forms in the NetDriver's hands. The robot charges the tri-blade and sets it flying.)
RedJupiter: Through the heart, guys!
Rangers: NetDriver AntiRod Finish, download!
(The powered tri-blade flies through the vampire's heart and, like vampires of old, all that is left of him is dust and ash.)
RedJupiter: Excellent work, guys! Now we have to join Jill downside.
(Cut to the Satellite, where Hexalink and Galevan watch as Beta Vamp meets his end.)
Galevan: Another brilliant plan, up in flames. (exits)
Hexalink: (solemnly) This isn't over, GammaRanger. I'll be back. And you will pay for my defeat.
(Back at the beach, the Rangers join GridRanger by the pier.)
GridRanger: I've got an idea on how to catch these guys. I've already phoned the police. Just follow my lead. Ready, Bryan?
RedJupiter: Let's go! (the two exit)
BlueNeptune: Ranger files, minimize!
(The four remaining Rangers revert into humans.)
Scottie: Let's go, guys.
(The all head to the pier, where the "vampires" are rejoining their meeting.)
Nash: Okay, where's Hex?
Ko: I don't care. Now those kids we found... over there!
(The four teenagers progress toward the Rangers, when suddenly, RedJupiter and GridRanger step in front of them.)
RedJupiter: And where do you think you're going?
(The other Rangers act surprised.)
GridRanger: The police will be here any moment for you four. I'll understand that these four young people will want to press charges.
Nash: For what?
Laura: What are you, kidding? I mean, willful destruction of property...
Eric: ... Disturbing the peace...
Scottie: ... And harassment!
(Two officers come to the beach.)
Officer #1: We got your call, GammaRangers. Thanks a lot! We were looking for this particular group for a while now!
Officer #2: All right, let's go, you vagrants.
(The officers carry the "vampires" away in their squad car.)
Amy: Living in a fantasy world all this time, they will soon learn the harsh realities of their consequences.
RedJupiter: Well put, Amy. Now let's go. I feel like doing some night surfing
GridRanger: You're kidding, right?
RedJupiter: Why not! I mean, I brought my computer for that purpose... wait, Scottie's computer. (turns and smiles at Scottie)
