Cyberspace Task Force GammaRanger

Data32: Under Control

(This is the personal journal of Bryan Stone, leader of Cyberspace Task Force GammaRanger, for August 28, 1998:

A week ago, Amy was really upset because one of her longtime friends had forgotten about her. Little did she know that this was no accident. Namrock sent down Beta Hypno to basically alienate everyone living in Pathway Towers. Luckily, we were able to get down to Pathway to put an end to Beta Hypno's lies. But he had other things in mind, as he tried to make Amy put an end to us! By using the new GridDriver format, we were able to defeat the Betamon. Somehow I feel that Hexalink's days are nunmbered, as well. We were this close!)

(The scene, the NetStation, where Bryan is performing research on the patterns of monster attacks since the GammaRanger got their powers back.)

Format complete. No searchable patterns indicated.

Bryan: (to himself) I guess that's it for tonight. Man, do I have a headache.

(Tired and still aching, Bryan heads to his quarters on the ship to go to bed. He dreams about what Koike said before he jumped into the timehole.)

Koike: Going into the past involves a great risk. There is a chance that you will coexist with yourself in that time era. If this were to occur, then the results could be catastrophic.

(The word "catastrophic" echoes in his mind as he tosses and turns in his mattress. Cut to the Satellite, where an important decision regarding Hexalink's future is being made.)

Namrock: Hexalink, I want you to format a Betamon. One made of cold steel. One that will wreak sheer havoc on the GammaRanger.

Rhexus: And I have the program right here. All you have to do is work your format into the program and we should have something.

Hexalink: An interesting format indeed. A monster made entirely out of Userspace steel. Good enough. Format Beta Kaze!

(The Beta Kaze, an iron horse figure that looks like a blackish-blue musclebound knight, jumps out of the screen and onto the Satellite.)

And now for the test.

(Hexalink slashes his sword at Beta Kaze. Not a scratch.)

Beta Kaze: Hey! That tickles!

Hexalink: Success!

Chouzo: Yeah. Finally.

Hexalink: What did you say, insolent wench?

Chouzo: I just said that... Hey, I'm not insolent!

Namrock: Be silent! Hexalink, take Beta Kaze to Userspace to attack the Rangers. Galevan, you go with them.

Galevan: Yes, my lord. (whispers) You do remember the plan, do you?

Namrock: Of course I do.

Hexalink: Are you finished yet? I'd like to get to Userspace sometime this clock period!

(The viral beings head down to Earth. Meanwhile, Bryan wakes up and jogs over to Laura's house.)

Bryan: (ringing the bell) Laura!

Laura: (answering the door) Ever since I've become a GammaRanger, I haven't been able to sleep in a good ten hours on Saturday mornings.

Bryan: This isn't GammaRanger business.

Laura: It isn't? Goodnight. (goes back inside)

Bryan: Aw, come on! I need you on this one. Laura? (sees Jill jogging by) Jill!

Jill: Hey Bryan! What's up?

Bryan: I need to talk to you. You know I'm from the future, right?

Jill: Well, yeah. What's wrong with that?

Bryan: I've been having these dreams of... dying.

Jill: I don't understand.

Bryan: It's the universal law of time travel. Two people of the same genetic code cannot coexist in a given time frame. If they do, it will cause a rift in the time-space continuum, throwing the older one to the end of time.

Jill: Won't that have a radical effect on history?

Bryan: Or worse... On our powers. Since I'm the one who created the GammaRanger powers... if something should happen to me in this time that will affect the Bryan Stone in this time, our powers could be lost due to an erratic change in history.

Jill: Well, do you remember when you were born?

Bryan: It was sometime this year. I forget the date exactly. That's why I'm in such a rush to get rid of the Namrocks so I can go back to my rightful place in time.

(Jill thinks about the situation for a minute.)

Jill: Well, do you have any clues?

Bryan: None. When I joined up with the Namrock Probe Project, they made us undergo a selective memory wipe. Something about forgetting your past, because in the future, that will not matter to you.

(Speaking of which, the three viral mutants, Galevan, Hexalink, and the Beta Kaze, make their way into town with a troop of Balzac.)

Galevan: Now, are you ready to put your digital life on the line for this operation.

Hexalink: I'm always ready. The question is... Are you?

Galevan: Believe me.

Beta Kaze: Will you quit rambling and let's go attack?

Galevan: Let me remind you that mine is the only weapon in Cyberspace with the ability to piuerce through that shard you call your hide.

Beta Kaze: You're kidding.

Galevan: (raises his sword) You want to try me?

Hexalink: Hey! Save your strength! You'll need it when you go after the GammaRanger.

(Meanwhile, across town, Scottie is staying in his father's house for the weekend.)

Jon: There you go. I made scrambled eggs and ham, your favorite.

Scottie: Thanks, dad. They don't make food like this at TU.

Jon: (laughing) Now I didn't send you to TU to criticize the food. I sent you there to get an education. I went there and now look at me.

Scottie: Dad, you gave me this story a hundred times already.

Jon: Did I? Guess I didn't notice. (the doorbell rings in synchrosity with Scottie's Cyber Loader) Now who could that be at this time of the morning? (opens door) why, hello, Bryan.

Bryan: Good morning, Mr. Scott. Can I speak to Scottie for a moment?

Jon: I don't know. We were about to have breakfast.

Scottie: (looking at his Cyber Loader) That's okay, dad. I'll handle it. He's taking me to the library.

Jon: Well, all right. But take your breakfast with you!

(He packs the eggs and ham in a plastic dish and sends it with Scottie as he bolts out of the door with Bryan.)

That's my boy.

(Outside the door...)

Scottie: Get in the car. I told my dad that I was going to the library.

Bryan: I get you.

Scottie: So what's up? I think I have an idea, (points to his Cyber Loader) but...

Bryan: No. It's not that. It's me. I'm having dreams about the end of my time in this time frame.

Scottie: Don't worry. That'll only happen if two people named Christopher and Mary Stone just happen to give birth to someone named Bryan Marshall Stone.

Bryan: Well, what if that were to happen?

Scottie: You're being way too tense. Now if I could direct your attention to this... (pulls out Cyber Loader)

Bryan: A virus detected?

Scottie: I think so. Come on, we've gotta get the others.

(The shot switches to the back of Scottie's jeep was they pull out of the neighborhood.)

Bryan: Yeah, but can we pick up Laura last? She's a little cranky.

(Later, the two arrive at the suburban development district of town, with a full jeep. They spot Balzac putting sensors all over the place.)

Eric: What could they want that has to do with sensors?

Amy: I'm not waiting to find out. Let's move. (pulls out her Filecoin)

Bryan: Wait! We should try and take care of these things first.

Amy: What? But they could have us springed into a trap!

Bryan: That's a chance we'll have to take.

(The Rangers head out of the jeep.)

Jill, you've gotta help me disarm these sensors.

Laura: We'll take care of the Balzac.

Bryan: All right then. Let's go!

(Bryan and Jill fight the Balzac that are guarding the master control of the sensors. The other Rangers fight the Balzac on ground. Namrock is watching the battle from the Satellite.)

Namrock: The sensors! Those Gamma Users are destroying my sensors! (Opens the DWC) Beta Kaze! Switch to plan two when you get the chance!

(On Earth.)

Beta Kaze: Yes, my lord.

Galevan: Beta blast all of us!

Hexalink: No, you idiot! It's too soon for that!

Galevan: I know what I'm doing! Do it now!

(The Balzac scramble enough to get the Beta Blaster and blast Galevan, Hexalink, and the Beta Kaze.)

Beta Kaze: Now this is indestructible!

Eric: (from the ground) Now that's bad.

Jill: It just got worse. Look at Bryan!

(Bryan begins to grab his head and grimace in pain.)

Bryan: I... don't know what's... going on, but... it better stop! I... have to call... for... the Station!

Scottie: You can't call for the Station in your condition. We've got to get you back to the Station's sick bay. Jill, can you pilot the Jupiter Wing?

Jill: I can try. And if I need further assistance, I'll call for the GridTitan by remote using my Grid Loader.

Scottie: Good thinking. (nods to the others) Ranger files, download!

(The five transform. Amy heads over to Bryan's direction.)

YellowVenus: Are you going to be okay?

Bryan: I hope so. Just get me to sick bay. And hurry!

GridRanger: Let's get to the Station!

(The Station appears in the sky as the six Rangers transload onto it. Cut to the command bridge.)

BlueNeptune: Amy, you got Bryan? YellowVenus: Yeah, I got him. I'm taking him to sick bay. You guys better fight the monsters.

Mars, Grid, Neptune, and Mercury: Right!

(The Rangers head to their respective NetMechs. With RedJupiter's absence, GridRanger is left to pilot the Jupiter Wing.)

BlueNeptune: Detach NetMechs and surround them on all sides! DrillerDriver sequence, download!

GreenMars: Gotcha on that! TrackerDriver sequence, download!

YellowVenus: Just got in from sick bay. What's going on?

AquaMercury: The boys are about to have some fun without you again.

YellowVenus: Silly rabbits... WalkerDriver sequence, download!

(The three Drivers begin to fight. WalkerDriver takes Megalevan and TrackerDriver takes Hexalink, while the DrillerDriver fights Beta Kaze.)

BlueNeptune: Jill! I need a diversionary tactic!

GridRanger: One diversionary tactic coming up!

(The Jupiter wing begins to shoot at Beta Kaze to get his attention.)

My lasers have no effect! Maybe this will help. (pulls out Grid Loader) GridTitan, download!

(The GridTitan tank comes from out of Cyberspace to assist the GridRanger in battle.)

Option B! Megalasers lock on and fire!

(The Megalasers - up to twenty times as powerful as the Jupiter Wing's cannons - don't even scratch the monster.)

Beta Kaze: That was just impressive. (starts shooting fire at the Drivers.)

GridRanger: I'm beginning to lose him! If anyone's going to do anything, now would be a good time.

BlueNeptune: Mr. Scott's gotcha covered! Driller Missiles, lock on and fire! (he shoots, he doesn't score) Wh-wh-What the?

AquaMercury: That's it! Maybe he can't take concentrated hits on all sides! Rangers! Triangulate your fire on a location on his body. If we can't get him once, we'll get him many times!

GridRanger: Great idea, Laura! Crystal formation, now!

(The Rangers line up their machines in a hexagonal formation around Beta Kaze and fire off all their weapons.)

Wing Cannons fire!

BlueNeptune: Driller Missiles fire!

GreenMars: Tracker Beams fire!

Yellow Venus: Walker Turrets fire!

AquaMercury: Rider Charges fire!

GridRanger: TitanLancer blade fire!

(The six weapons fire into six different locations on the Betamon's body. while he is stunned, he is not hurt.)

GreenMars: NOTHING!!!

Megalevan: (to Beta Kaze) Now?

Beta Kaze: Yes. You will now find out why they call me Beta Kaze!

(He latches himself like a leech onto Hexalink's body.)

Hexalink: What the hell do you think you're doing?

Megalevan: You're about to find out. (raises his charged sword and slashes Beta Kaze)

Hexalink: You'll kill us all!

Megalevan: Not all of us. Just you.

Hexalink: Et tu, Galevan...

(Beta Kaze, still holding on to Hexalink, falls onto the ground and explodes, taking Hexalink with him.)

Megalevan: That, GammaRanger, is how you delete a Betamon.

GridRanger: Galevan... You didn't make that monster to fight us, but to destroy Hexalink?

Megalevan: It was Namrock's order to destroy Hexalink. Fighting you was just a bonus. You fought well today... Against the wrong enemy. (digiwindows out)

GreenMars: What do you think this means?

YellowVenus: Could mean a lot of things. I'm guessing he just wanted Hexalink out of his way.

GridRanger: Come on, guys. We have to tend to Bryan. See if he's all right.

(Cut to the Satellite.)

Galevan: The execution order was carried out.

Namrock: Yes. And let that be a lesson that I will not tolerate failure.

Rhexus: Now we can concentrate on getting rid of Bryan Stone.

Namrock: Yes. We must prepare for this momentous showdown.

(The next morning, Bryan and company join Scottie and Jon Scott for breakfast.)

Scottie: Well, you got your wish, dad. Even if there are six people instead of one.

Jon: Well, I figured that since you six come over so much that I should consider you all family. You know how hard I had it since your mother died.

Eric: Can someone pass the newspaper please? I like to read Dilbert.

Amy: I'm reading Dilbert right now... Thank you. (smiles)

Eric: Then just pass me the life section then. I want to see if "Why Me?" is still playing.

(Amy passes the paper to Eric. He flips through it looking for the movie section. He stops to glance at the births section. Something disturbs him.)

Bryan, are your parents named Christopher and Mary Stone?

Bryan: Yeah. Why?

(Scottie and Laura look at Eric in shock.)

Eric: I think you should see this.

Fin... for now.
