(This is the personal journal of Bryan Stone, leader of Cyberspace Task Force GammaRanger, for August 29, 1998... quite possibly my last.
Today is my birthday. Unfortunately, this year, as I feared, but didn't know, is my birth year. We found this out after we fought Beta Kaze. To our surprise, Beta Kaze was not after us, but was merely a low-maintenance way of getting rid of Hexalink. It worked. It doesn't solve my problem, though.)
(The scene: The dining room of the Scotts. Eric draws Bryan's attention to the newspaper and its "births" section.)
Bryan: What's this you're showing me?
Eric: The births section. It says someone named Bryan Marshall Stone was born this morning at 3:23 AM.
Amy: You think it's the same person?
Scottie: I don't know.
Bryan: There's one way to find out.
(Jon comes in from the kitchen with a cup of coffee.)
Jon: What's all the commotion about.
Bryan: (to the Rangers) We can't keep this inside any longer. (to Jon) Sir. We have something to tell you.
Jon: Like what?
Scottie: Dude! You can't!
Bryan: I have to. (turns back to Jon) Mr. Scott, when you said that I wasn't from around here, you weren't kidding.
(Bryan proceeds to tell Jon Scott the secrets of Bryan's origin and the GammaRanger. Meanwhile on the Satellite...)
Rhexus: Should I lower the defenses?
Namrock: Not yet. Let's see if the GammaRanger are going to make a move first.
Chouzo: Like what?
Namrock: I don't know. But they're up to something.
Galevan: I can go to Userspace to find out what is up with them.
Namrock: You go. And don't come back until you find something.
(Back in Scottie's house...)
Jon: So you're really Dr. Chris Stone's son from the future?
Bryan: Yes.
Jon: And the rest of you...
Eric: Let's just say we're super-powered sidekicks.
Scottie: Dad... I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, but if anyone else knew that we were GammaRanger... Aside from the obvious media problems, we were afraid that we would put your lives in danger. If you still want the Filecoins back...
Jon: No. Keep them. You need them far more than we do.
Jill: Guys, we still have a problem. What are we going to do about Bryan? There can't be two Bryan Stones in the same time period.
Bryan: True. Eventually, the eldest one of us, me, is going to disappear and history will change forever.
Laura: And our powers?
Bryan: Since I created the GammaRanger powers in the first place, if I go, so do they.
Amy: That's hardly fair. We have to tell Koike.
Jon: Who...
Bryan: Lt. Katsuhiro Koike. My superior. He gave me the order to go back in time to resolve the Namrock crisis.
Jon: How do we contact him?
Bryan: There's only one way.
(A few minutes later, the NetStation is called. The seven people go onto it.)
Amy: Be careful, Mr. Scott.
Jon: This looks like something out of Star Trek. How did you get it?
Scottie: I designed it from prototypes in Bryan's database.
Bryan: ComLink search for... (pauses to catch his breath) ... Lt. Koike.
(The computer launches a search. The search completes.)
Koike: Koike here. Report.
Bryan: Stone here. This is going to sound weird, but I was just born.
Koike: It doesn't sound weird. I knew this was going to happen. Unless you come back to your rightful place in time, you and the GammaRanger powers will cease to exist.
Bryan: I can't just come back! I'm the leader!
Amy: You have to. What will you be the leader of if you don't?
Scottie: Besides, you can always come back when we need you.
Koike: Richard is right, Stone. At this moment, you only have forty-two hours and seventeen minutes to live on Earth before you are exiled to the end of time.
Bryan: And everything I've worked to create is destroyed.
Koike: I'm giving you thrity minutes to decide, then you must make your decision, Bryan.
(Galevan, using a Digiwindow, listens in on the transmission between Bryan and Koike, after which he switches to a transmission with Namrock.)
Galevan: Namrock! Some alarming news! Bryan is going to die in 42 hours! Our jobs are complete!
Namrock: You troll! Don't you understand what will happen to us if Bryan dies?
Galevan: What do you mean?
Namrock: Let's not forget that Bryan built the probe and the program that gave us life! If he dies, so do we!
Galevan: Everything we've worked for is in jeopardy!
Namrock: But Bryan doesn't know that! All we have to do is find the baby Bryan Stone and kidnap it to protect it!
Rhexus: And I have the Betamon to do it! Behold! (brings up screen) My latest program. The Beta Star. This oughta attract his attention!
(Cut to Little Tony's Bust-A-Gut Pizza, where Bryan has fifteen minutes to decide whether he wants to stay in 1998 to help his friends, or return to 2023 and protect the power. Peter's with him.)
Peter: You look depressed about something.
Bryan: I can't say. Let's just say that I have a big decision on my hands and the fate of my friends depends on my choice.
Peter: You should choose whatever's best in the long run.
Bryan: You're right. I gotta go. Not much time left. Here. (gives Peter a ten-dollar bill)
Peter: Thanks, Bryan.
(Bryan races to the Tradewinds High football field, where the other Rangers are waiting.)
Laura: Bryan! Hurry! You only have five minutes left!
Bryan: I've been thinking this over... You guys have been the greatest team I can lead. Not only that, you've been the greatest friends.
Jill: If it's what I THINK you're going to say, we really think the world of you. That's why...
Bryan: I've decided to go.
Eric: You're making the right choice.
Koike: (over ComLink) Bryan, it's time, but another problem ensues. Namrock has released a new monster called the Beta Star. He has proceeded to 323 Morrison Drive.
Bryan: That's my house! I've gotta go!
Scottie: No! Listen, we can take care of the Beta Star, but you only have thirty sconds to go through the time hole!
Bryan: Are you going to be all right?
Eric: We'll take care of it! Just go!
(Bryan, hesitantly and with five seconds left, jumps through the time hole and lands in the same day, but in the year 2023.)
Bryan: I made it.
Koike: Welcome back, Stone. And happy birthday.
Bryan: Gee, thanks.
(Back in our time, the Rangers have transformed and made their way to Bryan's house.)
BlueNeptune: Where's the child?
Chris Stone: In the back room! Why?
GreenMars: Because he's in danger!
(The Rangers head to the room of young Bryan Stone to see something interesting.)
GridRanger: Looks like they've been here already! (staring at the mess in the room)
AquaMercury: Over there! (points to hole)
BlueNeptune: Where do you think he went?
GreenMars: I'm looking now. (activates GammaLink)
YellowVenus: What do you see, Eric?
GreenMars: They're outside of town. They're going to take him aboard the Satellite!
GridRanger: Not if we don't stop him!
BlueNeptune: Let's go!
(The Rangers transload to the location of the Beta Star.)
Beta Star: GammaRanger! I'm holding your future in my hands! I wouldn't try anything.
Galevan: No, you fool! If anything happens to him, we die, remember?
BlueNeptune: He's right! And so do we!
GreenMars: So how do we beat this guy?
AquaMercury: We have to do this the old-fashioned way, but we can't risk harming Bryan! You think you can do it, Jill?
GridRanger: All right! Mode Two GridTitan, download!
(The GridRanger jumps into the cockpit and heads for the monster's arm.)
Option C, download! Now if I can just...
(She uses the GridTitan's guiding beam to gently bring Bryan aboard.)
Beta Star: My baby! You'll pay for that.
(Beta Star begins to shoot razor-tipped throwing stars at the Rangers.)
BlueNeptune: My suit! It burns through!
GreenMars: I can feel my powers being drained!
AquaMercury: What's wrong, guys? (to Beta Star) You don't mess with my friends and expect to live!
(She jumps into the air, activating her Mercury Arrow and shooting a Deflector Arrow.)
Beta Star: You can't just use my stars on me!
AquaMercury: Can and did! You're done!
Galevan: Not yet! Balzac, Beta Blast!
(The Beta Blaster enlarges Beta Star.)
YellowVenus: These stars don't look good!
BlueNeptune: I don't know. I'm predicting a trip back to the Digital Dimension! To the Station, guys!
(The GammaRanger transloads to the NetStation, which has, by now, formed into NetDriver.)
BlueNeptune: Let's hit it!
Rangers: Right!
RedJupiter: (transloading onto the deck) Hey guys!
YellowVenus: What are you doing here?
RedJupiter: Koike says as long as I remain on the NetStation, the effects of time can't hurt me. Where's young Bryan?
GreenMars: He's with Jill. Now we've got more pressing matters to attend to.
Beta Star: RedJupiter! I'm gonna knock you back out onto Userspace!
RedJupiter: No chance! Ready, Jill?
GridRanger: (from GridTitan) Ready, Bryan!
(The two robots fight the monster while getting their mechanical hides beaten.)
RedJupiter: The Antirod! It's our only chance! (The Antirod forms in the NetDriver's hands. Using the blade, he slashes the Betamon.)
RedJupiter: NetDriver Antirod finish!
(The blade flies off just as Beta Star lets loose another one of its stars. The energy charged blade cuts the star in half and eventually, the monster as well.)
RedJupiter: Great job! Now I have to take the Station back to the future.
AquaMercury: Good luck!
RedJupiter: Thanks!
(The Rangers transload to Bryan's house, where Jill is waiting with little Bryan.)
Jill: Here's your baby.
Mary Stone: How did you find him?
Chris: It doesn't matter, thank you so much!
Jill: No problem!
Eric: So how is he?
Jill: He'll be all right.
Scottie: We'll be okay too! Because he lived, the GammaRanger will as well.
(In the future, Bryan is resting in his barracks, while writing in his journal.)
Bryan: (writing) Well, I can't even imagine how long it has been since I've seen my own bed. I don't think it's a welcome sight, though.
(The Ranger prepares to go to sleep, when he receives a message on his Cyber Loader.)
