(This is the personal journal of Bryan Stone, leader of Cyberspace Task Force GammaRanger, for September 13, 2023:
What began as a big surprise ended as an even bigger surprise. It began as I was captured from the Gammaproject compound by the Namrocks a couple of nights ago. Before I knew it, I was face to face with Lord Namrock. Meanwhile, my friends were trying to defeat the dreams that they were having. They needed my help, so I dispatched the MegaDriver. When Beta Dream was finally defeated, I attributed the idea to my new friend and fellow captive, Eli Namrock. Could this be the same person who was on the probe bearing his name?)
(The scene: the cockpit of NetDriver. The GammaRanger is communicating with Bryan about what he is going through now.)
GreenMars: What do you think you're doing? Are you out of your mind? That guy could be up to something!
GridRanger: Eric, chill!
BlueNeptune: What's up, anyways, Bryan?
Bryan: (from his cell) I don't know, guys. It's like, I have to believe him. It's my only choice. He's the only link to these guys that I have.
AquaMercury: Why don't you let Eli talk. (long silent pause) Go ahead, Eli.
Eli: All right. January 1, 2023 was supposed to be an exciting day for the Cyberproject. Indeed it was, but the happiness didn't last long...
(Cut to December 31, 2022, two minutes to midnight, when the Cyberproject Gamma Team is anxiously watching the launching the launch pad and the manned probe that is embedded on it. In command central...)
Commander Krusiec: Well, Bryan. This must be a momentous occasion for you, watching your probe go off into space.
Bryan: It's pretty cool. (over the intercom) How's the crew that's about to make history?
(The crew is referring to Ben Warren and Eli Namrock.)
Eli: All right, bro!
Warren: 10-4, good buddy!
Command controller: T minus 30 seconds until launch.
Koike: Stone, come here.
Bryan: Yes sir.
Koike: I want you to launch it. This is your idea. It's your probe. Now it's your time. Go ahead. Push the button.
Bryan: Yes sir!
(The controller goes throught the intercom and counts down until midnight.)
Controller: T minus ten seconds and counting. Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. Six. Five. Four. Three. Two. One. Ignition!
(Bryan pushes the ignition button and the probe begins to ascend.)
We have liftoff of the Stone-Namrock probe at midnight, January 1st, 2023!
(The crew cheers as the probe goes into the sky. Soon, Eric interrupts the story as the NetStation reforms.)
Eric: Hold up, back up the mo, one second. Wasn't Eli Namrock the man who hired Bryan to work for him before the lab accidnet forced Bryan and the probe to the Gammaproject and Eli Namrock into hiding?
Eli: You're speaking of my father. I'm Eli Namrock, Jr.
Scottie: That explains alot. What happened?
Eli: Well, it all began when Bryan and I graduated from the class of 2016 at the Watts Academy. (continues the story with flashback images.) We graduated with full honors that day. Bryan had a certificate in interactive engineering. I had one in computer-based rocket science.
Eli (18 years old): Have you found out what you were going to do after high school?
Bryan (18 years old): Well, what about your father's computer lab? I hear they're looking for people like me.
Eli: Don't mention my father. He's wanted me to work at that place since I became a twelfth-year student.
Bryan: Well, now it's different. (gruff voice) You'll be working with me, boy! (laugh)
Eli Namrock, Sr.: (from a distance) Now this is what I like! People working with people. You two will be great assets to my company.
Bryan: So you've heard.
Namrock: Heard, watched, pretty much everything. If the timing is right, then I want you two to join me as soom as possible.
Bryan: You got it!
(Eli's voice continues the story.)
Eli: A couple of days later, Bryan and I showed up at the Namrock Industry Plaza for our first day of work. All seemed well, except I thought that dad was keeping something from me. I tried to find out many of times, but he was either busy or gone for the day.
(back to 2016)
Bryan: So it's a strange invention. What harm could it do to us?
Eli: That's what has me worried.
Bryan: This is your father we're talking about. I'm sure he wouldn't do anything to hurt you.
Eli: Just want to make sure of that.
(A little later, Eli made his way into his father's office.)
Dad? Dad?
(He spots some vidcap files on his desk, opened to plans for a space probe. Just then, Namrock walks into the building.
Namrock: I wanted it to be a surprise, but obviously those plans are scrapped.
Eli: Dad. I was valedictorian of the Watts class of 2016. You knew I was going to find out sooner or later.
Namrock: That's true.
Eli's Voice: The plans were for a space probe to be launched in approximately five years. Since I found out about them, he gave me the go ahead to be leader of the project with one other person. I chose you, Bryan.
Bryan's Voice: I know.
Eli's Voice: For five years, we've worked on the probe. Even after it was sold to the Cyberproject, we kept working on it. My father didn't want to sell it, but we both agreed that he would be financially stable and it would do a greater good under a partnership rather than just one company. I remember everything. The pictures on the news windows of CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC. The covers of Newsweek and Time. I even remember what happened on November 27, 2022.
(Cut to the Namrock Industries building, on the afforementioned date.)
When we were about to pack the probe onto the payload deck of the Skytrack, something went terribly wrong. Not necessarily with the probe, but all of Namrock Industries.
Bryan: Are you sure your dad's cool with us working for the Cyberproject?
Eli: He has his doubts, but I'm sure he'll go with it. (something in Namrock's office distracts his attention) Did you hear something?
Bryan: Like what?
Eli: I don't know. I'm gonna go check it out.
Bryan: All right. But come back when you're done.
(Eli goes into his father's office and sees his father glowing with an eerie purple light. Then he witnesses Namrock as he goes into the main computers. His face appears on the screen.)
Eli: Dad? What's going on?
Namrock: The future, son! I put my life into that probe and there's no way I'm giving it up unless I say so!
Eli: But you DID say so!
Namrock: Sure I may have said so, but the thought of something of mine actually reaching the pinnacle of technology gives me energy to burn! Can't you see, son! I've grown obssessed with it!
Eli: I'm sorry, father... (reaches for the computer's plug) ... but this is for your own good. You're too dangerous now!
Namrock: Don't do it! Elijah Maxwell Namrock, Jr., if you pull that plug, you'll never hear the end of --
(Before the power-mad Namrock can finish his sentence, his son pulls the plug.)
Eli: I'm sorry... Bryan!
(He races back to the loading deck, where Bryan is loading the Skytrack car with electrical energy wired to the computers.)
Bryan.... How much energy have you put into that car?
Bryan: Enough to get it to New Icarus and the Cyberproject labs. Why?
Eli: Dad's turned into a computer glitch and is infecting all of our computers! You've got to stop this filling now!
Bryan: All right! I'll stop.
(Back to the NetStation and the Rangers.)
Amy: So you two and the car made it to New Icarus with the probe.
Eli: Affirmative. But somehow, the probe was also infected. He knew that I was going to go aboard it, (flash back to 2022) so he waited for the right moment. (flash to the Station)
Jill: So what happened in the probe?
Eli: I can't remember most of it.
Scottie: Try.
Eli's voice: I remember giving a coin to Bryan. I told him, "If I don't return, guard it with your life. We can do so much with it if only we find its hidden power."
Laura's voice: The RedJupiter Filecoin?
Eli's voice: Affirmative.
(On the probe)
Eli: So what next?
Ben: All we have to do is help these payload specialists with the satellite. I'll go. You stay here.
Eli's voice: And so I waited. And waited. And waited. Then I heard something.
Eli: Ben?
Namrock: Hello, son.
Eli's voice: I turned around in shock and I saw my father, but it wasn't him. He had turned into this masked, cloaked warlord.
Eli: I thought you were dead! I unplugged you!
Namrock: There's a simple fact for that, I am. (slugs his son in the stomach)
Eli: Where's Ben?
Namrock: He no longer exists. His spirit flows within mine now.
Eli: And the four payload spacialists?
Namrock: Meet my new henchmen!
(Galevan, Rhexus, and Chouzo all emerge from the payload deck of the probe.)
All of my warriors are pretty useful, except one that I had to delete. Hexalink was becoming a nuisance.
Eli: What do you want?
Namrock: I want you to know what it feels like to be a family!
(Final flash to the Station.)
Eli: And that's how I got here. As the viruses started to take over the probe, it began to grow and mutate into its own fortress. I was taken prisoner, and most of my energy was used in the "glorious" transformation of my father. He began to launch an assault on all Users...
Amy: Setting his sites on Bryan and the Filecoin.
Eli: Precisely. Now you've got to protect all of the coins.
Eric: There has to be something we can do to save Eli and Bryan.
(Behind the Rangers, a voice from the past returns.)
Sei: Perhaps there is still a way.
(The Rangers turn around and see Sei standing in the doorway.
I'm sorry to startle you like this, but when I saw that Bryan was in danger, I had to say something.
Scottie: I know what you're thinking. And I agree.
(Scottie takes a seat in the main chair.)
We've got a week for fall break, let's see what we can do with it. Eric, set a course for the Namrock Satellite.
Eric: What?
Amy: It's the only option we have. We can't do anything without Bryan.
Jill: Besides, with all the things Bryan did to help us, I think we owe him.
Eric: And Laura?
Laura: Sorry, Eric. I have to go with the guys on this.
Eric: I guess we go, then.
Sei: Make it happen, Moriboshi.
(With the engines on full throttle, the NetStation heads out of Earth's atmosphere into the depths of space. Where they're headed, they are about to find out.)
