GammaRangerREBOOT

Reboot.mov01: The Daemon Disturbance

(Original air date: June 20-July 4, 1998)

(This is the personal journal of Bryan Stone, leader of Cyberspace Task Force GammaRanger, for June 10, 1997:

After careful viewing of the last few battles, I was still stumped on why MegaDriver was weakening faster than usual. An image of GridRanger helped us on the way to the answer, but unfortunately we were also faced with the problem of Beta Specter. We finally managed to beat him when from out of the sky something (or someone) came out.)

(The scene: an open field. The sky has rained down a strange object, but the Rangers are far from it.)

Bryan: What is that?

Eric: I'm not about to find out! Guys, don't we have that community service project to do with MacDonald High?

Scottie: He's right. If we don't do it, we don't graduate next week.

Bryan: Alright. You guys go. Laura, come with me.

(The Rangers head off in their separate directions. In the outpost, the stage has been set. All the energy that was needed has been collected. Now all the Namrocks have to do is find humans willing to test this secret weapon, now known as the Daemon Navigator.)

Namrock: A hostile takeover of Userspace is at hand. The Daemon Navigator is set to launch in 20 nanoseconds. Where are my pilots?

Chouzo: Right here! (enters with a bunch of Balzac)

Namrock: Balzac... What are you, insane? This has to go without flaw! If we are going to encounter the GammaRangers, we need pilots who are as strong, if not stronger, than they are. We need Users.

Galevan: I will begin the search.

Namrock: And if you fare like Beta Specter...

Galevan: He only got that way because he was an unworthy cause.

(As the warrior walks toward the portal, Namrock looks toward a Digiwindow where he sees Amy, Scottie, and Eric at a graffiti-stricken wall in Tradewinds Park, to which we cut now.)

Eric: Well, we're here. So where's this Mr. De La Vega?

Scottie: I think it's that guy over there. (goes over to that guy over there.) Eddie? Yo, Eddie!

Eddie: Little man? Dude, I don't believe it!

(The two pal around as if they knew each other. Eddie is a hispanic male, aged 19, from MacDonald High. He is wearing a windbreaker and sporting a pony tail.)

Amy: How...

Scottie: Eddie turned me on to kickboxing. If it wasn't for this guy, I'd still be on the street.

Eddie: Or worse. These must be your friends from Tradewinds High.

Amy: Yeah. We're looking for Mr. De La Vega?

Eddie: You've found him! (everyone looks confused) ME! Eddie De La Vega.

Scottie: So... Eddie D! Where do we start?

(As the Rangers get acquainted with their new friend, Bryan and Laura rush to the capsule in the field.)

Bryan: So what happened?

Laura: It fell out of the sky. Anything else?

Bryan: Looks like a stabilizing capsule. Whatever it is, it's being contained in an... energy.... field... Laura...

Laura: (looking for other clues) What? What did you find?

(She looks into the capsule where it is obviously cracked from the fall.)

Bryan... It's GridRanger!

GridRanger: (wearily from within the capsule) Sky... Station...

Laura: We better take her there.

Bryan: Why not? The Station has a better stabilizing atmosphere than... this.

(The Rangers prepare to transload the capsule. Namrock catches news of this.)

Namrock: That capsule... What's in it?

Chouzo: I don't know, but I betcha I can find out.

Namrock: Just go already.

(Chouzo takes the Balzac to the field, where Bryan and Laura prepare the capsule for the trip to the Station.)

Bryan: All ready?

Laura: Let's do it.

Chouzo: Not yet!

(Chouzo and Balzac enter with plans to destroy the capsule.)

Bryan: Protect the capsule!

(The Balzac fight Bryan trying to get to the capsule, which Laura is carrying off in Eric's Server Cycle. Cut to the park, where Amy and Scottie are working with two MacDonald High students.)

Scottie: So, you guys do this all the time?

Sara: Yeah, whatever.

Amy: What's wrong with her?

Scottie: She's worse than you, I bet.

Amy: Quiet you.

(Suddenly, a young man in a red flannel shirt comes up to Amy and Scottie.)

Flannel guy: (overhearing) Don't mind her. She's always like this. I'm Chase Lewis. My friends call me Spoony.

Scottie: (offers hand) Nice to meet you. The name's Scottie.

Amy: I'm Amy.

Spoony: great to have you two here. So, where's your friend?

Scottie: I don't know... Amy?

(Amy shrugs her shoulders. Eric is getting washed up for a clean-up job. He is caught off guard by Balzac who are looking for the capsule. They are attacking a nearby in-line skater wearing a gray tanktop and black shorts.)

Eric: Hey! Get away! (turns toward fallen skater) You okay?

Skater: Yeah. I'll be alright. (While Eric helps her up) What was that about?

Eric: (acting like he doesn't know) I don't know. Listen. I know a place. Well-lit. Full of people. You'll be safe there. I'm on my way there now.

Skater: I guess it's the least I can do for you "rescuing" me (laughs). I'm Jill.

Eric: (offering hand) Eric. Eric Moriboshi.

(The two walk over to the front of the park, where everybody is working.)

Spoony: Hey Amy, you finished over there?

Amy: Just about.

Galevan: (from out of nowhere) And I'm about finished with you, Miss Berry.

(The warrior, accompanied with Balzac, rampaging the work site.)

Amy: Balzac. The last thing we need. (runs off with Scottie)

Eddie: Where are you two going?

Scottie: To get help!

Eddie: (face to face with a Balzac) I know how to deal with you. (they fight) Sara! Spoony! Little help!

(The two help Eddie with the Balzac. Enter Eric and Jill, obviously surprised by the goings-on.)

Jill: I thought you said that I was going to be safe!

Eric: Don't worry. I'll protect you.

(Eric shields Jill from the Balzac, while Eddie, Spoony, and Sara half-assedly fight the Balzac. Cut to Scottie and Amy, who have departed to a disclosed location to transform.)

Amy: Anybody?

Scottie: Nope. Let's lock and upload. BlueNeptune Ranger File, download!

Amy: YellowVenus Ranger file, download!

(They return to the site to help Eddie and the others.)

BlueNeptune: You and your friends better leave.

Eddie: You trippin'! A GammaRanger?!

YellowVenus: Whatever, just get out of here!

(The Rangers fight the Balzac back to their point of origin, when one Balzac stays behind and ambushes Jill.)

Jill: (after screeching) Get off of me! (kicks him and throws him over her shoulder)

Eric: Whoa... I didn't know you could do that.

Jill: You never asked. (smiling)

(After all is cleared, the Rangers are confronted by Eddie and the others.)

Eddie: The one and only GammaRangers. I don't believe it.

YellowVenus: Well, we didn't believe you could handle all those Balzac back there. Thanks for the help. (her and Scottie run off again.)

Spoony: No... problem? (confused, he turns toward Sara, Eddie, Eric, and Jill.) Ummm.. Maybe we should go home.

Jill: We? I don't even know you people!

Spoony: That doesn't matter. It isn't safer here.

Eric: You're right. Come on, Jill. I'll...

Jill: Oh, no. You've done enough today. As much as I appreciate it all, I gotta get my head screwed on straight. It was a pleasure meeting you, though.

Eric: Same here. (walks off)

Jill: (under her breath) Yeah. Right. (turns around to see Galevan still there and gets startled)

Galevan: Users! You have been chosen!

Jill: Not again...

Galevan: You ALL have been chosen!

Eddie: For what? Target practice?

Galevan: On the contrary.

(The Rangers reconvene on board the Station. Bryan continues to analyze the now-open capsule featuring GridRanger lying in it.)

Laura: I know it would be weird to ask, but... do you think (looks at GridRanger's helmet) we can take it off?

Eric: Why not.

Bryan: I guess so. Whoever GridRanger is, he probably has to have a humanoid form.

Scottie: Besides, the fresh Station air will work wonders if it is directly contacted.

Laura: Alright. (proceeds to talk off GridRanger's helmet, when Bryan stops her)

Bryan: I think you better let me.

(Bryan carefully removes the helmet from the body to find a big surprise.)

Guys, you better look at this. GridRanger's a...

Scottie: A woman?!

Amy: (after a long pause) That'll do.

(Meanwhile, at the site, Galevan is working his magic.)

Galevan: The four of you have been chosen to service for my master.

Spoony: What the hell are you babbling about?

Jill: Wait. No way. I don't even know these people.

Galevan: More the better. You shall get a chance to meet them when you work for my master.

Sara: And just who is "your master?"

(Namrock appears via a DWC™)

Namrock: Me.

(The four are stunned. Meanwhile on the SkyStation, where GridRanger has been moved to a chamber in the upper decks.)

Eric: I can't believe GridRanger's a girl.

Amy: Hello! This is the nineties. Anyone can be anything nowadays. Just look at us!

Scottie: She's right. It took sone convincing to make us think that we were GammaRangers.

Eric: Alright. Point taken, but still. She's more powerful than all of us!

Bryan: (examining data) She's also not human. It turns out that she's an imaging representation of an active HTML file developed to assist us. She's as strong as she is formatted to be. But where did it come from?

GridRanger w/o helmet: Excuse me...

(The Rangers turn toward the SkyStation cockpit door and glance at the GridRanger, what appears to be a young girl around their age.)

Bryan: Who are you? And where did you come from?

Young girl: Are you Bryan Stone of the Cyberspace Task Force GammaRanger?

Bryan: Who are you?

Young girl: My filename is Sei. My format is GridRanger, developed as a prototype of the Cyberproject Gamma.

Scottie: I think I speak for the rest of us when I say, "You've got a lot of explaining to do."

(Back at the park, Namrock is explaining the situation.)

Namrock: You four have been given an esteemed honor.

Sara: You have a problem with that, 'cause we ain't going!

Galevan: I'm afraid you don't have a choice!

Namrock: Galevan!

(They all look at Galevan)

You will have to excuse my associate here. He tends to be a bit overzealous.

Eddie: What's this all about?

Namrock: You shall soon find out. But for now, I'm prepared to make you a very beneficial offer.

Jill: Are you sure you want us? (Balzac stops her as she tries to escape)

Namrock: Yes I am, my dear. I need you to help me. I have a project that I cannot do myself, so I have called upon Galevan to look for eligible Users. (gives them the once-over) I see that he has succeeded. Come with me.

Sara: I think you misunderstood! We are NOT GOING!

Galevan: I think YOU are misunderstood, User. You do not have a choice.

Namrock: Now we can do this one of two ways, the easy way... (opens a Digiwindow) or my way.

Spoony: How about "no... way."

Namrock: Oh well. Have it your way. Don't say I wasn't nice. Galevan, do it.

Galevan: At once, sire.

(Before they get a chance to escape, Galevan lets loose a traction program that manages to seize the four people. They are dragged kicking and screaming through the digital abyss, until they arrive at the outpost.)

Namrock: Galevan. I'm counting on you to make sure that this never happens again.

Galevan: The recruits will comply.

(They both go back to the Outpost via the Digiwindow. At the Station, where Sei has introduced herself to the Rangers.)

Eric: Amazing. It's like a creation of some sorts.

Bryan: That's because it is. (Faces Sei) The way I figure it, Sei is a test file.

Sei: That's right. I was uploaded on the Gammaproject mainframe, then activated with the primary purpose to test a prototype super armor intended for use with your powers. Unfortunately, the powers was too unstable to maintain. As we speak, I am on the verge of erasure.

Amy: Are you sure? I mean, the Station and the capsule...

Sei: Means of prolonging the inevitable.

Laura: That's why you couldn't leave Cyberspace! If you did...

Sei: Then it would trigger a countdown to destruction. That's why Lt. Koike sent me here in the stable capsule. He hoped you might have the answer.

Scottie: Maybe we can ask Koike for suggestions.

Bryan: It's worth a shot.

(Bryan gets to work on contacting Koike. In the outpost, where four "prisoners" are being held.)

Namrock: As I have said before, I need your help. As you saw before in the Userspace, there are forces that want to invade it.

Eddie: These forces, how do you know about them?

Namrock: My soldiers and I -- Rhexus, Chouzo, and Galevan -- have seen them. I have chosen you four to stop them.

Sara: With what?

Rhexus: I'll fill this one, my dear... With this.

(He uncovers the secret project which they were planning for; a giant warship called Daemon Navigator. The teens are awed.)

It's a rather large ship, but with a few surfs you will be able to navigate it.

Namrock: The warriors that attacked you. There are more. They will strike again. The places you know. The people you love. The things you hold dear are all at risk. Now, I have a proposition for you.

Spoony: What did you have in mind?

Namrock: Fight as my warriors. Help me deal with this new evil.

Jill: What new evil?

Namrock: The GammaRanger.

Eddie: No way! They helped us.

Namrock: I won't say that they're evil, but they are impeding our progress toward harmony between Userspace and Cyberspace.

Sara: What?

Namrock: They want to eliminate us. If we are eliminated, then what else is next?

Eddie: I still don't buy it.

Chouzo: Oh yeah? Buy this! (brings out injured Balzac, looking all innocent)

Spoony: What if we get in the way?

Eddie: Not like I can imagine something like that happening, but we'll have to defend.

Namrock: Now you're seeing the light. Galevan! Get them to training!

(Galevan activates a Digiwindow and sends the teens through it before entering it himself.)

Galevan: I will not disappoint you.

(Cut to the SkyStation. Sei is explaining to the Rangers her origin.)

Sei: After receiving word of your Betamon dangers, like energy being taken from your world, I was formatted by Katsuhiro Koike to test the prototype program hyperlink. I was called Sei.

Eric: Sei? As in Japanese for "star?"

Bryan: Yeah... Star was the name of Koike's daughter. Before he left to lead Cyberproject, she mysteriously disappeared. I guess this is a speculation of what she would look like.

Sei: As for the GridRanger, Koike created it to my simulated biorhythms. I wore it and swore that I would defend Cyberspace with it. Unfortunately, Koike found it to be flawed. Too much negative resistance to my simulation. What you would call a "dead link." Finding no other way of resolving the problem, he put my program in a stabilizing capsule and sent it to Userspace in hopes that you would find it.

Scottie: And that brings up here. So what's the next step?

Koike: (over monitor) Allow me to answer that question, Mr. Scott.

(The six face the monitor. In the chamber, the four "prisoners" are being held.)

Sara: How did we get here?

Jill: I just want to know how to leave.

Galevan: You insolence will only hinder you. It is a fierce enemy. Only through training can you defeat it.

Eddie: You mean the only way out is to fight?

Galevan: You catch on quick. (releases Balzac which quickly flood the room.)

Spoony: What the--?!

Eddie: You heard what he said earlier. THe only way out is through fighting these guys again.

(The SkyStation. Bryan has managed to contact Koike.)

Koike: What's wrong, GammaRangers?

Amy: There's something I think you should see. (brings Sei to the monitor)

Sei: Father?

Koike: (smile) Sei... you have carried out the orders documented in my message.

Bryan: Except for one thing. She's slowly being erased... And if she goes, then so goes the GridRanger powers.

Koike: I know. The GridRanger programs needs a body to executed, not a representation of one. And since I don't know exactly how the GammaRanger powers were created... (pauses) I tried my best, but even my best was flawed.

Bryan: What if I helped you alter the program a little. After all, I created the GammaRanger programs.

Koike: (after a long pause) When do we begin?

(As soon as Koike says this, Sei faints.)

Laura: This isn't good! We're slowly losing her!

Koike: You're right, Miss Mendes. We must begin as soon as possible.

(Koike begin talking about the schematics. Meanwhile in the battle chamber, to prove themselves worthy, the four humans must fight off all of the Balzac.)

Spoony: (while kicking a Balzac in the chest) How many more of these guys are left?

Sara: You think I know? (throws one over her shoulder) Jill?

Jill: Why are you asking me? I don't even know you people!

(from a corner of the chamber)

Chouzo: (eating popcorn) This is better than pro wrestling!

Rhexus: Yeah! Or watching .movs all day!

(Just then, the Balzac depart.)

Galevan: (entering) You have done well for yourself. You will make fine pilots of Daemon Navigator. Now line up before me!

Advance to Window #2.
