(Mulder and Scully are driving in a car) Scully: Well, I'm still not sure how you and I figure into this investigation. Mulder: Well, did you see the photo? (Scully looks at a photograph of a young girl screaming) Scully: Yea, I assume it was taken by whoever abducted her. Mulder: It was taken by a 65 year old druggist moments before she was abducted. It's a passport photo from a local drug store. The druggist who took that photo is the last known person to have seen Mary LeFont. Only he claims that wasn't the photo he was taking. He says the photo he was taking was normal in every respect. He only came forward to the police when he heard the woman was missing. Scully: Well, whoever it was who took this photo was obviously privy to the women's abduction. Mulder: That *is* what you would think. (Mulder and Scully are inspecting the drug store where the photo was taken. The 65 year old druggist is a suspect. Mulder looks down at the old man's leg which has a metal brace on it.) Mulder: (after the old man limped out to answer the phone) So, which of us gets to use the stun gun on Bruno Helpman over there? (Mulder and Scully are looking at the photo after Scully has inspected the shelves where the passport film was kept.) Scully: Mulder, take a look at this. You see this smeariness here? I'm thinking that it's heat damage. With the heater sitting under the film right there the immulsion probably melted. Mulder: So, you think that would make it look like she posed screaming for a passport photo? Scully: Plus, the film is two years out of date. Mulder: 0h... Scully: The photographic chemistry could have changed. Mulder: Uh...(nodding sarcastically) Scully: (Mulder still nodding sarcastically) They... fade...they... alright, so what's your theory? Mulder: I'm not sure I have a theory. (After a local police officer gives Mulder and Scully his theory about the missing women faking her own disappearence. Mulder says...) Mulder: Yea, but why would she stab here boyfriend through the ear? The magic was gone? (Mulder is searching through a closet at the missing woman's house. Scully is the only other person in the room.) Mulder: Here it is. (he picks up a camera) Stand back Scully, it's loaded. (Mulder is leaning on the side of a car, Scully is inside. They have just found the second victim's body. Scully is shaken up, disturbed.) Mulder: You know Scully, that word unruhe, unrest, has been bothering me. I mean maybe he thought he was curing them somehow, saving them from damnation. From those things in the pictures you know, he called them the howlers. Scully: It's over Mulder. Mulder: Well, then that photo wouldn't be his fantasy, it would be his nightmare. Scully:(with voice raised) What the hell does it matter?!!! Mulder: Because I wanna know. Scully: I don't.
