Was born blind due to a birth defect.
He wore a device called a VISOR that allowed him to see better than other humans. (VISOR is an acronym for Visual Instrument and Sensory Organ Replacement. It is a slim device worn over the face like a pair of sunglasses. VISOR permits not only vision in visible light, but also across much of the electromagnetic spectrum including infrared and radiowaves. It also causes Geordi continuous pain.
His mother, Silva LaForge, was a commanding officer, Captain of the USS Hera and his father was an exobiologist.
One of his first assignments was shuttle pilot for the Jovian run between Jupiter and Saturn.
Geordi was originally the flight controller (CONN) aboard the Enterprise-D in 2364, he was then later promoted to full Lt. and assigned as Chief Engineer.
He has difficulty in building relationships with women.
His favourite foods are Pasta al fiorella and iced coffee.
