Scotty retired in 2294 at the age of 72, having served in Starfleet for 52 years.
Having crashed into a Dyson Sphere with the transport ship Jenolen, he survived by suspending himself inside a transporter beam.
He was rescued in 2369 by the Enterprise-D.
He was first seen in "Where no man has gone before".
