He is the Commander of the Federation Station Deep Space 9.
He was widowed when Jennifer Sisko died during the battle of Wolf 359,and was left to raise his son, Jake, alone.
He has a strong hatred of Captain Picard, who as Locutus of Borg, assisted in the death of his wife.
Prior to his posting to DS9 he had served aboard the USS Livingston (NCC-34099), USS Okinawa (NCC-13958), USS Saratoga (NCC-31911), and had been assigned to the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, Mars to work on the Defiant project.
Shortly after his posting to DS9, in 2369, he made contact with the mysterious life-forms indentified as Bajors legendary prophets in the Bajoran Celestrial Temple located in the Denorios Belt. According to Bajoran beliefs the Emissary would find the Celestrial Temple and unite the planet. Sisko filled both of these duties.
As a result, he was made the Emissary, a role which he was uncomfortable with, but felt obliged to respect Bajoran beliefs.
He had an interest in American Baseball, especially Buck Bokai, Tris Speaker and Ted Williams.
He was promoted to Captain in 2371 and given the U.S.S Defiant to command.
He was first seen in "Emissary".
