Rinaldo was born lucky, and his training as a salesman helped him along his way. There are rumours that he owned a spikard, or maybe even two. Certainly, this would explain why Benedict pushed so hard to have him crowned King in Amber after Random's disappearence. The fact that Benedict was sleeping with his daughter Hazard had nothing to do with it.
Rinaldo's reign, while short, helped to stabilise many of the problems that had run out of control under Random. His edicts were considered fair, and given time and opportunity, he might have persuaded the family to rally around him. Sadly, he had neither.
Rinaldo found out about Benedict's affair with Hazard, and was forced to bring the great man to trial, through pressure put on him by Queen Coral and Julian, High Priest of the Unicorn and moral model for Amber. At the Trial, and while out of Amber's protection, Rinaldo was poisoned by his own brother, Eagle.
