William has been through the wars. He's wrestled Gerard, fought Julian in a fixed duel, and insulted three or four other Elder Amberites, to their faces. And this all in one drunken night when Gerard introduced him to a drink called "Pod."
Later, exiled by the King, separated from his fiancee, Jessica, the day after they agreed to marry, he travelled the length and breadth of shadow, with only a few close friends; Brion, son of Gerard, Legolas of the Elves, Jimmy "The Hand", greatest thief in Shadow, in his own field, and Lightning, a very sarcastic sword with a South African accent. At one point he threw himself down the Abyss, which is filled with raw Chaos, to rescue his Uncle and find out who had been trying to assassinate him every 31st of July.
He has, or had, a son called Risk, by a woman called Donne "Mad Donna" Ulanti. She is an ex-girlfriend of Benedict.
William, while dead at one point, is now alive again and annoying people with such things as his submarine tank and his persistance in adding the word 'fish' to every sentence. The terrible thing is, he might just be the only sane person in Amber.
