Josh is Martin, shapeshifted. Simple as that.
He spent a lot of time in Chaos after Patternfall, where he felt safe from his relations. One of his best friends is Merlin, Emperor of Chaos.
When Amber exploded, he was not present, but is rumoured to have taken a job in Chaos, or possibly Valliard's Haven.
His curse, given by Crowley: "You will be that which you seem to be, no more no less."
