Log Fifteen
At the beginning of the session, Jessica was wondering what to do about being pregnant by Moradin while betrothed to William. William was heading for Tir Na-Nogth with his friend Legolas, to sort out what might be done about "S" and Brion was teaching his new friend Jimi about the marvelous things that could be done with a sword.
"He [Moradin] is either out of range, refusing to answer, or dead." GM
"Please let him be dead, please let him be dead..." William
"Well, I just thought I might as well offer you all of the stereotyped and rather clicheed things, ie; money, power, Aunty Flora on a silver platter, in return for you doing my dirty work. However, I don't think I can be bothered." Crowley, evil, but evil with style.
"My friend from outer space and I..." Moradin of William
"You come in, and Bleys hands you a drink saying that you look like you need it." GM
"Thanks" Jessica
"What, no, delighted to see you are still alive, Uncle Bleys? No, Sorry I tipped you off Kolvir?" Bleys
"'Gurgle gurgle gurgle.' Thud. Jess faints." Elizabeth, Jess's player.
William arrived at the stairs, near to a full moon, after staying a couple of days with Julian. He was still technically in exile, but William was the sort of child Julian would have liked to have instead of Felix, so he put him up for a week, and he and Legolas had a great time in the forest. As he ascended the stairs, Crowley appeared and offered him power and suchlike, which he refused. Even the bit about Flora and Frozen Yoghurt.
Up in the sky, he discovered that Hazard would have been the key to it all, were she still alive, but she was dead, so it had to be William that did it. At that point, he got a Trump call...
Meantime, Jessica had been out for a walk, thinking about motherhood. She had taken Gerard into her confidence, and was thus suffering from the mother of all hangovers, and Gerard had found and beaten up on Moradin until he at least gave back the engagement ring he had stolen. Jessica thanked him and said goodbye, and when she came back to Benedict's Mansion, known as the Portfolio, Bleys handed her a drink. It took her a while to realise who he was. At that point, he was indeed in contact with William, up in Tir Na-nogth, and the boy was laughing his head off.
Bleys let Jessica through to see her loved one, when he had made his way down to the bottom of the steps. She told him what had happened, and he stopped laughing. They decided not to do anything to Moradin as that would be what he wanted. (Where they got that idea, who can tell? He may be twisted, but not that twisted. Well, not often.) They parted, William for a Shadow where he hoped to find a solution, and Jessica to hide her shame in another Shadow. Gerard joined Jessica to keep her company, and as a protector.
William, out in Shadow, had been plagued by several sightings of the Unicorn. Every time he saw it, it was followed by a black cloud, which got closer and closer. Then he was Trumped by Brion, who was stuck in some awful Shadow somewhere, but when William tried to pull him through, both ended up there. Thus, William, Brion, Jimi and Legolas were trapped in a Shadow, and there was a black cloud in it, with a white speck fleeing from it. Brion ran towards the cloud, figuring that as it was different from its surroundings, and there was no hope of escape from here, he might as well see what the cloud was, whether it helped or harmed him. William ran also, but had to turn back to help Jimi, and when he looked back, Brion was entering the cloud. At last, the Unicorn was caught by the cloud at the same time as our hero entered it. He found he could see clearly, but Jimi was hazy in his vision, and Legolas was totally blinded by it. They found Brion's clothes in a neat pile, and then they were attacked by huge tentacles made out of smoke. William ordered them back, using the power of the Abyss, and they obeyed. Now that the cloud was stationary, they made their way to the centre, where they saw the Unicorn being tied up by many tentacles. When William ordered them away, a laugh from beyond them told him that only their master could truly order them about.
Getting a good look at the thing that had said this, William noted the goat-legs, the owl-eyes, and the huge and impressive stag's antlers. The thing climbed onto the Unicorn, and the cloud dwindled, taking them with it. Afterwards, William described it to Legolas, and he said it sounded like Herne the Hunter.
William found that he could now use his Trump cards, and he immediately Trumped Benedict, and told him everything. Benedict called a family meeting of the elders, but nobody could contact Jessica. The situation was explained to them, and Fiona, rather paler than normal, suggested that the Unicorn might actually be in danger of its life, for the blood of an Amberite who had committed no cardinal sin could be used to kill it, in the same way that an innocent could catch it. But it was alright, because there were no family members that she didn't know about, right?
Time passed faster for Jessica, hidden out in Shadow, with one of Hazard's old friends, GeltCarl, the organiser of the Irregulars. It was made rather more enjoyable when a naked Brion appeared in midair in the dining hall, but GeltCarl gave him a ring of invisibility to wear while he got dressed. Jessica had some fun dreams that night.
GeltCarl offered to let her stay as long as she liked, and even used magic to help the pregnancy move faster, although that meant Jessica was unconsious for the delivery of her baby girl, Aurora. Also while she was unconcious, Gerard had to leave in rather a hurry. Aurora was born with a bloodstone, a powerful omen of good luck, and as soon as she was born, GeltCarl used the Trump cards that Hazard had given her to see what the future was like. Good luck? Hah!
As it turned out, Aurora was the key to something truly world-beating, but GeltCarl had no idea what. Soon, however, most of the Elders descended upon Valliard's Haven, her city, to tell her what was up. The Irregular Guard were called out, and Benedict raised an army in a few days. The vanguard of the enemy was sighted a few days after. This was just Orcs and things indigenous to the Shadows nearby, where GeltCarl fought them as a matter of course. At this dramative juncture in the narrative, two new relations turned up...
