Humans:
Humans are the dominant race in Paradys by a large margin. All important positions in the city government are filled by humans. Most of the other important persons in the city are of the race of man as well, though not all of them would be considered human. The citizens of Paradys are of the mostly civilized, European variety, though occasionally a foreigner is found. In the deeper woods outside of Paradys, where even the most needy do not go foraging, there still live some of the savages, who approach not the great city. They live contentedly in the wilderness now that it has been centuries since the fall of the empire.
Dwarves:
"Of course they're human, well almost..." Generally considered to be stunted, dirty humans, dwarves are found at the bottom of a society which descends very far indeed. Unable to live by skill or strength, dwarves may turn to less legal means of survival. Never being born to normal humans, it is believed that only dwarves may produce dwarven offspring. They are, despite their size, and possibly because of their upbringing, very hardy and often find jobs involving menial tasks of long duration.
Elves:
"I don't like them, they aren't like people they don't die or nothin. At least they stay up on that hill and don't bother no one. I haven't heard of many people who go up there and come back. I wish they would just go back to wherever they came from..." Elves stand only slightly taller than a normal human but are much thinner. Although they live in Paradys and are the most numerous non-human race, out numbering even dwarves, they are rarely seen. They live almost in total isolation in the section of Paradys know as Elven street. Where they came from or why they chose to live in Paradys, no one remembers. It is believed that Elves have powerful magical abilities, and that they can never die, but their secretive nature make it difficult to know for sure.
Half-Elves:
"Well I suppose its possible, but I've never seen one..." If such creatures exist, half-elves must blend in with one society or the other. Many humans have features which could be described as slightly elven in nature, but no one ever admits to this line of descent.
Half-Ogres:
"I thought he was just a really big, ugly guy, but no one should be able to punch through a wall like that..." The offspring of the rather bestial cousins of man, half-ogres have much of the human intelligence and the ogre strength. They find difficulty "fitting" in to much of human society and are usually side-show freaks and outcasts. They would not be likely to survive in an ogre society.
Half-Goblins:
"It was no child that she birthed, I was there, that skin, the ears and those eyes, well of course there was only one thing to do with it..." Good-wives speak in hushed whispers of the things they have seen delivered by pretty young girls with no husbands. Luckily, the mother often dies before seeing her child. Most are disposed of at birth, but some half-goblins survive through fortune or intervention on the part of some merciful soul or goblin relative. Those that do mature are destined for a life in the shadows, where human eyes never meet theirs.
Half-Faerie:
"She was the most beautiful being I had even seen, I could not begin to describe what I saw, at the time I was too stunned to think, much less move. For some reason she didn't flee like I had heard of in other sightings... About a year later I saw her again in the moonlight at my door, she placed a bundle on the ground and fled into the darkness. It looked like a perfect baby boy, thin but handsome, except for the ears which had a slight point, and the sparkle of intelligence that shone in the new-born's eyes..." For those mortals who are fortunate (or unfortunate) enough to encounter the sellie court, there is the occasional chance of an offspring. Like halve-elves, those with fay blood spend their lives as humans, however any effect of their lineage on anything other than their appearance is unknown.
