Millennium: 'Antipas'

Frank's nemesis Lucy Butler is being employed as a nanny to a young girl, who she is steadily turning against her parents for her own ends.

Millennium meets The Omen in one of the creepiest episodes to date. Although the story is perhaps a little too close to the Horror classic (vicious dogs, a scary child, an evil nanny), Antipas still holds together very well.

It's still not clear just who or what Lucy is (although Frank says she is the Devil), but her powers seem neverending, and the woman herself unstoppable. Even when Frank runs her down to Hollis's shock, he is sure Lucy will quickly get well again. The woman's threat to Frank at the episode's end hopefully means that she'll be back again, and not before long. Lucy is the first and only force of nature that Frank has come up against, and it seems he can't hope to win.

Aside from Carter and Spotnitz's writing, the direction here helps to keep the atmosphere tense and creepy, and not the sort of thing you want to see late at night. The only real criticism is that the story doesn't go far enough. Admittedly, it's impossible to reveal any hard facts about Lucy, but there is not a large amount of plot here, and Lucy's plans for Davina are still unclear by the story's end. Still, what it lacks in ideas, Antipas more than makes up for in scares. Don't watch this one alone.
