First Wave: 'Deluge'

Cade visits a town where it has been raining for two years and attempts to uncover any alien involvement in the death of a murderer.

The main idea behind this story is that of a town full of druids who are sacrificing people to appease their gods and halt the rain. It's not totally clear exactly what experiment the aliens are running here, although an attempt to induce Seasonal Affected Disorder is suspected, in order to see if the suicide rate goes up the more rain there is.

This town hardly seem to be much use to the aliens, as trying to work out if a bunch of druids will commit suicide eventually will hardly tell them much about any other type of person. The alien involvement, when it comes, is something of a case of too little too late, as far too much screentime is given over to the druids running about and threatening Cade.

The script is afflicted with two of the worst problems: a slow drawn-out plot and very poor characters. There are plenty of people in the town, but none really have much of a personality by the end of the story. Plus, as they've all been partly responsible for at least one previous murder, you don't really feel much sympathy or interest about what happens to these druids.

It's all quite atmospherically shot, with contrasts of fire and water most of the way through, but it doesn't liven up a rather dull concept.
