Cade travels to an Ohio school where the American Football team have got dramatically better overnight, in order to uncover Gua involvement.
After some great recent episodes, this one is back to business as usual. Reminiscent of a couple of season one episodes, not to mention the film The Faculty to some degree, there’s not much here we haven’t seen before. The only difference is the plan itself, which is rather hurriedly explained and doesn’t make a lot of sense. Likewise, the effect of one player on the brain patterns of one of his team-mates isn’t made clear either.
It seems the Gua are breeding insect/human hybrid husks so that, like bees, one can have control over others nearby. Presumably this is just an early test run, as controlling football teams doesn’t seem like a lot of use, and only being able to influence those nearby is also rather limiting. It just seems that there are far simpler ways to accomplish control over humanity than this.
There are no surprises either. The Gua responsible is obvious from the start (just spot an attractive woman) and it’s amazing that Cade isn’t onto her from the start. She exposes him with one of the oldest tricks in the book, yet despite turning most of the town against him, he still has no trouble getting around or being helped, even by the Sheriff, who has been called to pick Cade up but is more interested in getting his kid picked for a team, even though he has presumably been told Cade is an impostor.
It’s all a bit of a mess, and the only reason it’s pulled up to a second star is through Eddie being allowed out of his trailer and into the action at last, getting a chance to finally kick some Gua butt.
