Eddie goes to a school reunion, but the Gua have discovered his plans and hope to find him and use him to get to Foster.
At last we get a chance to see that Eddie can handle himself perfectly well; with Foster brute strength seems to do the job a lot of the time, but Eddie is more of a thinker, something he proves by expertly outwitting the alien forces. Not only do his computer and mechanical skills come into play, but he’s able to seek assistance from the Binary Bandits, a group of hackers who share a past with Larry, aka Eddie.
It’s great to see Eddie out on his own, especially with the writers resisting the temptation to get Cade to arrive and save him in the nick of time. Instead, Eddie deals with the situation himself using a clever trick to wrong-foot the Gua and play them right into his hands. It’s also good to see that he’s not the reclusive idiot with no social skills he’s often been painted as in the past; he’s got some good friends and he gets back together with a woman he used to know.
This week’s game of Spot the Alien is also good fun, with suspicion falling on many people until the final unexpected revelation. After believing that it was far too obvious, I was glad to be proven wrong. Then there’s Cade. Sebastian Spence is obviously enjoying his week off, with the Cade/Eddie pairing switching over and making for some fun watching. We also learn a great deal about Eddie’s background, which fleshes out his character and explains how he got to be where he is today. It even ends with the issue of funding for Cade and Eddie being cleared up. It’s a great showcase for Rob LaBelle, not to mention a welcome one. More?
