EYE IN THE SKY

About a month ago I bought C-23. Mainly due to the outstanding art work on the 2nd page. After reading it I felt lost and was going to put a bad review of it in this section, but I decided to wait and buy issue #2 to give it a 2nd chance as some books tend to tell more in the 2nd issue. Yesterday I bought C-23 #2. Again the art work was great, but the story was severly lacking. It felt like I jumped in middle of a series that has been going on for years. I tried reading through both issues again, but after the 3rd page of the first issue my stomach started turning at the thought of having to read more, so I just flipped through it looking at the art. I still tend to think that this is a spin off of another series that I never heard of. I would stay away from this one if I were you. It may look pretty good, but start reading it and you will end up disliking it greatly.

You may have heard that Kevin Smith (creator of the movies Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy) is going to be writing Dare Devil and Green Arrow at the end of this summer. I assumed that I would be picking those titles up when he starts writing them. So I figured that it would be nice to see what is going on in the books before he takes over so I have some idea of what is hapening. Even though Green Arrow is the book he is going to be writing, I also picked up Green Lantern cause I had the 2 linked together in my mind. You all most likly know Hal Jordans story. Hal was the Green Lantern, but after his city got blown up by the cyborg Superman, he kinda went crazy and caused that whole Zero Hour thing but was stopped and wasn't seen again until the Final Night saga began. You Hitman fans may have remembered this as when Tommy and the gang boarded up Noonans' bar and sat around telling stories all night. When the final Night hit, Kyle Rayner, the guy who took over Hals' place, went to find Hal for help. To shorten the story Hal ened up being a Hero one last time by giving his life to save the world. So I was confused as to how Kyle was teaming up with Hal in issue #100. Seems Kyle visited the future, but when he return he was sent to far into the past. Having never really read much of this book, I was surprised at how easy the writers made it to jump into the book and know what is happening while at the same time telling a great story that no one should miss. I believe that this is another book that you sould pick up.

You may have seen a comic book out on the stacks this week that was bigger than all the rest. That would be the Resident Evil comic book/magazine. If you have played the game Resident Evil or Resident Evil 2 a few times you will most likely enjoy this comic (unless you didn't like the game). I have only played the second game, and for that reason I understand that some one who hasn't played the games will not understand what is going on. The book has a lot of extra stuff the games never bothered to tell you about. As for an investment by buying it, remember that the sales of this book will bring in more than the comic readers as it extends out to the playstion gamers as well. The thing is that personally I would not have gotten the book if I never played the game. Bottom line, if you liked the game you'll like the comic, if you didn't play the game you'll most likely be lost.

This is the place to find out about comic books that I think are worth your time and money to take a look at. Lets start this section off with the new ONI PRESS comics! If you are a fan of Kevin Smith and his films (Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy) then you just have to check out Oni Press Double Feature #1 (if you can find it) and the new ongoing clerk series. These are even great for people who never even heard of Kevin Smith or his movies because you can pick them up and still understand what is going on, but if you know you stuff you will be rewarded with special hidden extras in these comics.

Oni Press is a new comic company that started about 2 months ago and came out with the Double Feature staring Jay and Silent Bob on one side and Secret Broadcast with some punked-out style teen's trying to get a new kind of new underground music out to the public. The Sercret Broadcast was a good read but it also offered something not see before in comics, a CD to listen to when reading the story (CD sold through mail). Now I haven't gotten my hands on the CD yet, but it seems that it wound be a nice trip to have it. I mean imagine a movie with out music, if music can do that much for movies I can't wait to see what it dose for comics. The music on the CD seems like it will be some kind of music that we havn't heard before and that will be candy for our ears, I'll just have to wait till I get the CD I guess... Along with The secret broadcast, the second Double Feature has a true story transformed into comic book style. It is a wierd and fun story to read. Check all the Oni Press stuff out (only 3 comic books so far) and you will be pleased and maybe even rich as these are bond to rise in price as hot as they are.
