YOUR EYE IN THE SKY

This page is full of my opinions on comic books that are out on the market. Many peoples taste in comics are different, and I'm no exception. Just because I don't like a comic doesn't mean you won't like it, and like wise, just cause I like a comic doesn't mean you will. Think of this, I hate X-men, but it's selling very well, so many people do like it. I like Battle Chaser, which is also selling well. I like Ghost which is not setting any records in sales. However, if your in this page, we most likely share a likeness for at least one comic book, so my thoughts may be worth a pennie more than that guy always hanging outside the comic shop asking for spare change so he can buy the latest Gen 13 issue.

You most likely looked right past this book this last week. Maybe dismissing it because you never heard of it before or you had aready spent too much. Almost happened to me too. It's the birth of a new company. The first issue (#0) came out a few months ago I guess. Last Wednesday the second issue showed up, now ready to finish the story in the next two months with two more issues. What is it. Virtex is the book. Oktomica is the company, hope I pronounced that right. The books main character is Virtex, a cyborg killer for the goverment. The setting is earth with a twist. It's as if time itself has fused together. Here you find hover cars flying over dinosaur and old knights picking up cloned prostitutes. This serves up a lot of potential. Virtex is chasing after a creature named Ripnun and his clan who are killing as many prostitutes as they can. Ripnuns followers are numerous and scattered around hidden corners waiting for anyone who threatens him, people like Virtex. Virtex runs into a new friend while making a few more enemies. This book and company have a very good start and I hope to see and hear more of them in the future. As too investment-wise, it's a 50/50. This may be the next Image, or it could be one of the many small name companies. Even if it's worth only pennies in a year, it's still a highly recommended read, even more so for you Hitman fans and X fans that are hopeing to see him in the pages of Ghost, like myself, may find some things familiar about this Virtex.

As most of you know, I am a fan of Ghost. Recently Ghost has been given a new creative team. So what happened to the old team? Well Eric Luke (former writer of Ghost) is now writing Wonder Woman as of #139 which came out today. Also appearing is Adam Hughes (former artist of Ghost) doing the cover, and what a amazing cover it is, wow! The inside of the book was just as amazing. Although I have never read a Wonder Woman comic in my life, I easily understood what was going on, except when Dianna was talking about some gods I never heard of. Eric has made Gateway City (Wonder Woman's city) come alive much like he did with Arcadia (Ghost's city). The characters have great depth to them, making them come alive inbetween the panels. The story was and is complex, yet easy to follow with a surprising end that shocked even me who has never read an issue of Wonder Woman. Mr. Luke's presence in the book is very easy to spot to former Ghost readers, and he still sent me flipping through the dictionary a few time. Eric Luke has gotten me hooked on another series once again. Hopefully he doesn't change comics too often as this will force me to spend all my money, that would not be cool!

Last week I recieved an e-mail from a Hitman fan. He suggested that I pick up Dead-Pool. He figured that I'd like it seeing how I like Hitman. Since he wasn't the first to tell me this, today I picked up the latest issue of Dead-Pool. I wasn't hoping for much out of this title seeing how it had the word MARVEL on the cover, I don't hold much respect for that company. After reading the first few pages, I was confused, but that is to be expected when jumping into a series that's in the 20's. I know I still don't understand everything that was going on simply because of my lack of knowlegde on the book. I did, however, understand most of it by the time I was done. I have been told that Dead-Pool is just like Hitman, only funnier. Maybe I missed that part. Dead-Pool's constant rambleing, even while fighting, gets annoying really fast. Unlike Hitman, the story has little depth to it. Besides the fact that they both kill, I cannot see the likeness between Dead-Pool and Hitman. Don't expect to see me purchase another Dead-Pool comic in the near future. I'm leaving this one for the people who find it entertaining.

Bout time I get around to updating this page again. I feel I must up date my thoughts on the Cliffhanger titles. First I must say that I like Crimson the best, but Battle Chasers is visiblely the majority's favorite. Both are great reads, but if your looking to make some money off them, becareful. Crimson is not raking in many readers, so value is not exactly soring. But Battle Chasers prices are soring. The only issue in the comic shop here is issue #4, all the rest sold out. Again I say becareful. It may look like a sure profit now, but the lateness of the issues may get readers looking else were to spend their money. Another break in this series has already been anounced. After issue 5 there will be no Battle Chasers for a few months as the team is going to make sure that they are always 1 issue ahead. Will this last? Does this have to do with them now being in the DC world? I'm not sure. As for Danger Girl, I dropped this series after issue #2. It looked like to much of a Gen 13 clone. But what do I know, I've only read one issue of Gen 13. The worst part is that Danger Girl is later than Battle Chasers. The comic shop here still has a few issue #2's and a lot of #3's. Again, becareful with this title as well.

Again Kevin Smiths' name is showing up in this section for the third time. Why am I bringing up his name? Well let me tell you why. This July he is going to be writing a Jay and Silent Bob ongoing comic book series. As you may have remembered, Oni Press started there business with a great start thats to Kevin Smith writing a Jay and Silent Bob one-shot that is hard to find and worth a lot now. If the series dose half as good as the one-shot did, it would be a good idea to check it out this July. I know all the other books in here are reviews, but I thought that if I told you about this after the comic came out you would not be able to get the comic because it may very well have sold out by the time I'd get this posted up. So keep your eyes open for this one, it is going to be hot!

...............Frank Miller is my favorite artist. You may know him best from his line on Batman called 'The Dark Knight Returns' that blew Batman fans every where away. He also dose his own comic line called Sin City using Black, White, and a different color that depends on the story. No comics have been coming from him since last Decembers' Sin City one-shot. Now he is back with Lynn Varley, who dose the colors, in a mini series titled 300. The story is really not a story, but a part of history. Although some parts may be exagerated alittle, the story they are sharing with us really did happen. The art is great and the story is deeply confusing. But they got 3 more issues to clear things up. So the bottom line is this, this will be a good book to buy for the read, but if your looking for a money gain, this is not where your going to find it as although Millers' stuff is top of the line and sells very well, his stuff just dose not go up in value enough to make any money off it for some reason. Sure his Batman and Daredevil stuff is worth something, but none of his own stuff is. 300 is his own.
