ABC(26/04/01 9:11:04) Maluku separatist flag hoisted in Indonesia's Maluku About 100 supporters of a rebel movement in the eastern Indonesian province of Maluku have hoisted a separatist flag, despite a ban by local authorities. Indonesia's official Antara newsagency reports that supporters of the Maluku Sovereignty Front hoisted the flag of the Republic of South Maluku during a ceremony at the residence of one of the organization's executives in the Maluku capital, Ambon. The flag-hoisting lasted 10-minutes before local police brought the flag down without force. Antara says that Ambon and its surrounding areas were deserted following the flag hoisting.
