Casting a Purification Circle After establishing your altar, and marking the extent of the circle, including the four quarters with appropriately coloured candles, stand before your altar. Light the altar candle with a lighter. Circle the area in an anti-clockwise direction (this is deosil in the Southern Hemisphere) and light each quarter candle. Pick up your broom and sweep the circle as you walk inside it in a deosil direction: Repeat as you sweep: Sweep, sweep, sweep this place By Power of Air, I cleanse this space. While doing this feel the element of Air moving within the circle. Return to the altar and pick up the gold candle. Light it from the altar candle and walk around the inside of the circle in a deosil direction while saying: Light, light, I light this place By Power of Fire, I cleanse this space. Concentrate on the Fire energy flowing around the circle. Return to the altar and pick up the chalice of spring water. As you walk in a deosil direction inside the circle, sprinkle the water with your fingers and say: Liquid, liquid, I wash this space By Powers of Water, I cleanse this space. Feel the element of Water flow around the circle. Return to the altar and pick up the bowl of earth. Walk in a deosil direction around the circle and sprinkle the earth and say: Dirt, dirt, as I walk this place Powers of Earth, cleanse this space. Feel the element of earth bring her gift to the circle. Return the bowl to the altar and move to the centre of the circle. In the Goddess position say: Spirit, spirit, fill this space Powers of the Divine, consecrate this space! Feel the power if the Goddess and God enter yourself and your sacred space. When the energy begins to dissipate, turn back to the altar. Lay your hands upon the altar and say: This altar is dedicated to the Lord and Lady of light. May it serve me well. After conducting your ritual or consecration, you must take down the circle. Return to the middle of the circle, stand in the Goddess position and say while gradually lowering your arms to your side: The web of life is an endless circle never to die only to change form.
