Be it enacted by the People of the State of Oklahoma:
SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new section of law to be codified in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 90.7 of Title 26, unless there is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows:
The last week of May of each year is hereby established as "Purple Heart Week" in Oklahoma. The Purple Heart, as established by George Washington in 1782 and revived in 1932, is a decoration of honor awarded to members of the Armed Forces and to United States citizens honorably wounded in action.
All residents of this state are requested to devote some portion of Purple Heart Week to recognizing and commemorating the recipients of the Purple Heart who have demonstrated a commitment to fighting for the ideals which have made this nation great, have served this nation so valiantly, and are role models for all to emulate. It is the intent of the Oklahoma Legislature that:
SECTION 2. It being immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist, by reason whereof this act shall take effect and be in full force from and after its passage and approval.
