2. When and where was he born?
Pernell was born in Waycross, Georgia, on May 18, 1928. (The year of birth is listed in some places as 1930, but according to family and friends, '28 is correct.)
3. Does he have a wife or any children?
Pernell has been married three times. On January 4, 1951 he married Dr. Vera Mowry, a professor at George Washington University. They had one child, Jonathan Christopher, who was born in October, 1951.The couple separated in 1959.
Pernell and actress Judith LeBrecque were married in October of 1962.
His third marriage, to Kara Knack in 1972, lasted twenty-four years, but ended in divorce in 1996.
4. When did Pernell leave Bonanza? Why?
Pernell filmed his last Bonanza episode at the end of the 1964-65 season, the series' sixth. He had been having creative differences with the producers for several years, as he felt the show should deal with more serious issues, and was racist and sexist.
5. What else has he done?
Pernell has starred in two other television series: Trapper John, M.D. and the short- lived FBI: The Untold Stories. He also has a huge list of movie and stage credits, as well as guest roles on many other TV programmes.
