"Four Days with Dr. Deming" by William J. Latzko and David M. Saunders
"Four Days with Dr. Deming" Why most MBA courses do not teach Dr. Deming's management theories? What are the relevancies of Dr. Deming's teaching in today multitudes of management fads?P>
It is strange that Dr. Deming, the father of Japanese new economic era, is still rather unknown to many organisations, and most MBA courses do not teach his management theories. His "Profound Knowledge" is the source of inspiration only to those who can understand and gain insights into the human intrinsic values. They are not many who can arrive at such journey, as testified by many TQM failures in most organisations. Much of his wisdom may be lost, especially in this highly proliferated management fads. Ironically many of the present management fads "copied" some of the ideas from Dr. Deming, unfortunately in a piece-meal manner.
"Four Days with Dr. Deming" What are the similarities between Dr. Deming's teaching and Dr. Peter Senge's System Thinking.
For those who are familiar with Dr. Peter Senge's "The Fifth Discipline" 5 disciplines : namely 1) System Thinking 2) Shared Vision 3) Mental Model 4) Team Learning 5) Personal Mastery, there are distinct similarities between the two great thinkers. Dr. Deming's "Constancy of Purpose" is similar in concept with Shared Vision, and "Constancy of Methodology" concerns learning loop (PDCA), Statistical Process Control (SPC), which inherently requires Mental Model, Team Learning, and Personal Mastery. While Dr. Deming's shows how the Profound Knowledge applied in organisations (Japanese), Dr. Peter Senge gives insights into the theories and proposes disciplines. Reading "Four Days with Dr. Deming" will greatly compliment those who practised Learning Organisation.
