Have you ever wondered
Which hurts the most
Saying something
And wishing you had not
Or saying nothing
And wishing that you had
--Javan

JUST QUOTES

You have to pay dearly for being an imaginative person. You see a great deal and feel a great deal, but there is ugliness to see and feel as well as beauty, and in yourself as well as in others.
Sherwood Anderson

To spare oneself from grief at all cost can be achieved only at the prize of total detachment, which excludes the ability to experience happiness.
Erich Fromm

As long as you keep a person down, some part of you has to be down there to hold him down, so it means you cannot soar as you otherwise might.
Marian Anderson

I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, that they will be forced to deal with pain.
James Baldwin

It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them.
Emerson

We die as often as we lose a friend.
~ Pubilius Syrus

Give me one friend, just one, who meets The needs of all my varying moods.
Esther M. Clark

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN'T LOOKING

When you thought I wasn't looking
I saw you hang up my first painting on the
refrigerator, and I wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking
I saw you feed a stray cat, and I thought
it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you make my favorite cake just for me,
and I knew that little things are special things.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I heard you say a prayer, and I believed there
is a God I could always talk to.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I felt you kiss me good-night, and I felt loved.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that
sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw that you cared, and wanted to be
everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked.....

and wanted to say thanks for all the things I saw
when you thought I wasn't looking.

IF I HAD TO RAISE MY CHILD OVER AGAIN

If I had my child to raise over again,
I'd finger-paint more and point the finger less.
I would do less correcting and more connecting.
I'd take my eyes off my watch,
and watch with my eyes.
I would care to know less and know to care more.
I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.
I'd stop playing serious and seriously play.
I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars.
I'd do more hugging and less tugging.
I'd build self-esteem first, and the house later.
I would be firm less often, and affirm much more.
I'd teach less about the love of power,
and more about the power of love.
Diane Loomans
