As well to seaS.C.Jones
Before I liked as well to see
with purity dawning my day.
Young and unfettered, still the child
as the world rushed by unhurried me.
Cares and worries from far away
came now in the adults I styled.
To a world impure there set free
gathered storms, a tempest at bay.
Innocence lost mid seas begiled
beckoned the child, "Come, swim the sea!"
"Join us, join round, enter the fray."
"Discard childhood." ...so there I filed
beyond the shores safety in thee.
Appraised in death swam each my way,
eyes opened to new sights that be.
Lost children in the deep there lay
taken there in seas churning wild.
My simplicity could not sway
concerns and fears where young hearts flee
when each gale made previous mild.
This now knowing I could not stay.
If lifes passage waits not, how we?
Came now in the adults I styled
cares and worries from far away.
As the world rushed by unhurried me,
young and unfettered still the child,
with purity dawning. My day
before, I liked as well to see.
As well to sea
