WEATHERING A STORM

I stand at the edge of troubled water,
the wind of pain is blowing slightly,
sunset is upon my space and time,
bright yellow and brilliant orange colors fill the sky,

I close my eyes and take in one last breath,
I keep my eyes shut for a long time,
I feel gray clouds rolling towards me,
they seem to be driven by fury,
the sun of hope burns its last light into the sea of despair,
there is no light from anywhere,

The wind of pain has begun to blow harder,
the heavy clouds of torment begin to unleash their cargo,
I curl deeper into myself,
I keep my eyes closed and feel the storm,
the power and treachery of one element with another,
the accepting rain is sailing on the wind of pain,

I rock back and forth trying to keep myself centered,
the wind of pain is relentless, I continue the struggle,
the time passes on and on as the storm increases its power,
the intensity has me buried even deeper into myself,
my feet are getting wet as the accepting rain floods even more,
I stand my ground, unstable as it is,

Angry sands are beating against my face and stings,
I am being pushed in all directions,
My lower legs are emersed in the waters of acceptance,
the water is lapping at my thighs,
I grit my teeth and hope I can withstand this storm,
it seems like an eternity, and then...

The wind dies down and turns into a slight breeze,
sand no longer stings my face,
I open my eyes and see nothing,
I am wet from head to toe,
the water recedes back from whence it came,
back into the ocean of pain
I turn and see a light,

A figure stands with the light beaming out from behind her,
as I move closer I can see she is holding a steaming cup,
I come within speaking distance and hear her say, "Hurry up!"
two young boys step into the doorway and are smiling,
I kiss and hug the lady, mess up the hair of the two boys,
we all go inside, but before I close the door,
I look one more time out into the darkness,
and realize... "we" can weather any storm.
