Driving in Fog

Driving in Fog

The vision of fog
is the absence of vision,
a porous wall that moves
only forty feet
with each slice of headlights.

What it obscures
appears too late,
after retinas wire their screams
to a brain too slow
for brakes to screech opinions
before the car alarm crows
over the expended airbag.

If a semi is stalled ahead, there's nothing to do.
Precautions are as futile as high beams.
You really ought to pull over.

You continue driving.
