Dear sweet Tinkerbell, from the Disney adaptation of the story is not in fact the image offered in the Mr. Barrie's story. She was not so nice, and in fact caused Wendy to be shot by and arrow when she came into Neverland. So just who are the faeries? | |
The myth of the wee folk can be see as far back as the Greek and Roman mythology in the form of the Nymphs and Naiads. The magic creatures of wood and stream. They have been represented at the protectors of nature and in a large number of stories, they align themselves with a particular area. A common misconception about the Fae, is that faeries are a singular species, however in fact the elves (dark, light, tree etc.), trolls, sprites, will-o-the-wisp, little people and a thousand other names describe the inhabitant of the world of Fae. |

There is no image of the land of Fea, as it is a world apart from ours. It exists where magic is common and flows through all that is there. The senses of man, which are limited to just 5, become overpowered when we find a path in. There time and space have no real meaning. The magic of the old gods still hold and sound turns sideways, light runs backwards and the solid becomes liquid as you flow through each other, becoming a part of each other and the magic. |
and see if you can find the 10 faeries hidden in this picture
There are many wonderful sites along the web which discusses Faeries and the magic they have. Many of these have wonderful artwork associated with them also. Please take a moment to visit them and come in touch with the magic.
New additions to this collection of Fae are from Mark Cole (micole@greatnothern.net)
