4/28/99 - Set on Edge in CCM?

O.k. -- sorta.

We ARE in CCM Magazine, the May issue, this next month -- BUT it's in REALLY SMALL PRINT and is part of the Full-page ad the Broken Records, our internet c.d. distributor, has placed with them. Pretty cool, eh? So, now I can tell everyone that Set on Edge has been in CCM -- of course, I'm not sure I'd really want to do that.

In other news; Over the Rhine is just next week releasing 2 new c.d.'s; "Amateur Shortwave Radio" (a live collection spanning from '89 -'99, even including their cover of Abba's 'Take a Chance on Me' with N.K.U.'s symphony orchestra), and an all piano instrumental record called "I don't think I need nothin'." It looks very likely that they'll be in the studio during July recording a full-length for Capital records, but if not, they'll be releasing 4 more stripped down c.d.'s through Ryko-disc. Oh -- and I hear that Brian Kelly, their drummer, may have left the band. It will be a long time before I stop mourning this one. Brian is the greatest drummer alive.

Last night I caught, for the 3rd time, Burlap to Cashmere live. If you have not yet done this, stop being lazy/cheap/stupid and do so. I assure you that absolutely that it will be one of the most astounding shows you EVER see. Really.

I'm proud to say that I'm going to see Danielson in Atlanta this Thursday, but even prouder to say that I'll be seeing my friends in Rock-N-Roll Summer{including my former house-mate, and former Vigilantes of Love, Tom Crea} opening (by request of the headliner, none-the-less) for the one and only rock-genius, Jonathan Richman (from the Modern Lovers, who's other former member went on to start the Cars and the Talking Heads), at the 40 Watt this Saturday. Are you jealous, Chris Pyle? Josh Antonuccio?

It seems as though some form of the late-great Athens, Ohio, band the Cactus Pears is back together, recording, and playing out again -- though it looks more like, looking at the new line-up, that it's Our Smiling Red Cactus Trucks -- the line-up includes former Big Red Truck and Our Smiling Jesus Band folks. Ah well -- it's good to see Tony Xenos is still writing. Check out their web page at; http://www.cactuspears.com/

Well -- please be in prayer for s.o.e. -- we're going to try to schedule more studio time for the 22nd of May, but the studio has been going through a lot of changes, so just pray that God leads us in what we are to do, and protects and makes good use of the time and $$ that we are allotted.

Another request; next week I meet with a lawyer concerning my record contract with Ionic Records; whether or not to sign it is the primary issue. Wisdom -- wisdom is good.

I'll leave you all with some interesting web links that I'm sure you'll find challenging in good ways -- check them out! Till next time... May God's abundant blessings be evident...
