Webrings...

Dear Visitor,

Since Yahoo! has taken over Webring.Org, those people who have been members in webrings for days, weeks, months--yes, even years, have received a plethora of junk mail from the Webring server. Often these letters are "AMS Reports," saying that a particular person's site does not contain a valid HTML coding.

Because I run my own webring to be flexible, I allow my own members to place their coding into any place on their website that they would like. I do not expect them to link directly to that page on their site. Why? Because people who join the webring want to publicize their site in its entirety--not the silly webring page. (And yes, often I've encountered people who do like to visit the webring pages after they have looked around the whole site.)

Why am I rambling about this? Because I believe that the hard-nosed way in which Yahoo! is running its webrings is a very poor method to gain and retain its Webring customers. I suppose that, once again, Webring doesn't make its customers enough $$$$, so they must do something to help improve that problem. Unfortunately, Yahoo! and most other present corporations have never heard the phrase, "Give the customer what s/he wants."

Such is the result of a capitalist economy. So, if you are looking for my webring pages, I apologize, but I've taken them down. If you want to join the Starving Authors' Webring and receive no junk mail telling you what a bad-bad-hideous-evil person you are for not properly linking to your webcoding, feel free. I'll welcome you with open, if tardy, arms.

Thank you,
Ana
