Please save this message for future reference, especially if this is the first time you are subscribing to an electronic mailing list. If you ever need to leave the list, you will find the necessary instructions below. You should also save the "welcome messages" from the list owners that you will occasionally receive after subscribing to a new list. To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to the list, just send an email to ENGC1011SEC17@TC.UMN.EDU. This is called "sending mail to the list," because you send mail to a single address and the LISTSERV computer makes copies for all the people who have subscribed. This address (ENGC1011SEC17@TC.UMN.EDU) is also called the "list address." You must never try to send any computer commands to that address, as it would be distributed to all the people who have subscribed. All computer commands must be sent to a different email address, the "LISTSERV address," LISTSERV@TC.UMN.EDU. It is very important to understand the difference between the two, but fortunately it is not complicated. The LISTSERV address connects you to a machine i.e. a computer that can respond to your requests automatically. The ENGC1011SEC17@TC.UMN.EDU sends email to every person on the list. You may leave the list at any time by sending a "SIGNOFF ENGC1011SEC17" command to LISTSERV@TC.UMN.EDU. Contributions sent to this list are automatically archived. You can get a list of the available archive files by sending an "INDEX ENGC1011SEC17" command to LISTSERV@TC.UMN.EDU (don't send this command to ENGC1011SEC17@TC.UMN.EDU). You can then order these files with a "GET ENGC1011SEC17 LOGxxxx" command. This list is available in digest form (i.e. all the emails for the day come in one long email instead individually during the day). If you wish to receive the digested version of the postings, just issue a SET ENGC1011SEC17 DIGEST command by sending that message in an email to LISTSERV@TC.UMN.EDU. IMPORTANT: This list is confidential. You should not publicly mention its existence, or forward copies of information you have obtained from it to third parties.
