Kartikeya; Kumara

The only son of Siva and Parvati. Also known as Kartikeya because he was born under the krittikeya star. Also known as Murugan, Saravana (Tamil), Kartik (Northern India), Skandha, Sanmukha - six faced (Sanskrit).

He was born to kill Taraka demon king. He digs a tunnel thru the Crouncha mountain to kill the demon king. That is why the thieves invoke his blessings before embarking on any of their nocturnal missions (which mostly involves tunnelling).

Kartikeya is not worshiped in North India. Being confined to Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra and West Bengal gives the indication of Murugan/ Kartikeya being predominantly a god of the Dravida people.
