"So
What's the Fifth Step?"
BUILDING AND RELEASING
ENERGY
Grounding
Before doing any kind of magickal work, it's important to ground yourself.
Grounding serves two purposes: 1) it creates a tie between you and
this plane so that you don't get lost in the astral; and 2) it forms a
channel for energy to flow between you and the earth.
To
ground yourself:
Visualize a silver
cord extending from the base of your spine deep into the earth's center.
When you raise energy, you can now tap into the earth's energy instead
of completely depleting your own. Also, if an energy force hits you,
this cord can act as a lightning rod to let the energy dissipate
into the earth instead of bursting through you.
Building and Releasing
Energy
Energy can be built in a number of ways such
as chanting, dancing, drumming, or clapping. The key is to gradually
intensify whatever method you're using. You can increase the speed
and loudness, getting faster and faster as you visualize the energy pouring
up through the silver cord and filling your body, all the while maintaining
the image of your goal. Your muscles are tense and throbbing with
the energy and when the moment is right, it's time to release it in a sudden
burst toward your target.
To release the energy, you can completely collapse on the floor, relaxing
every muscle and/or shout a key word. It's important to focus your
energy as you release it so it will go where you want it to.
After you've released all that energy, make sure you eat and drink something.
Even though most of the energy you used came from the earth, you'll still
have depleted some of your own. Magick is hungry work!
