Ritual Foods



 These are some food recipes that I have 
made for different Sabbats in the past 
and have received from friends, family and many cookbooks.
I updated this every 2 or 3 seasonal holidays.

Yule



Wassail

6 cups apple wine or dry red wine
10 cups apple cider
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons whole cloves
2 teaspoons whole allspice
2 large cinnamon sticks
2 oranges studded with whole cloves, sliced(garnished)

Place the wine, cider, sugar, cloves, allspice, and
cinnamon in a large pan. Heat over a medium flame, 
until low boil. 
Cover; reduce heat, and simmer for 20 mins. Strain; 
discard spices. Serve garnished with slices of orange.
Makes 16 servings (1 cup each)
*For non-alcoholic, substitute apple cider for red wine or
use a different juice such as pineapple.*


Cranberry Loaf

2 cups sifted flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon soda
1 cup cranberries (chopped)
1/2 cup walnuts (chopped)
1 teaspoon orange peel
1 egg (beaten)
3/4 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons salad oil

Sift dry ingredients; stir in cranberries, nuts and orange peel.
Combine egg, orange juice, and salad oil. Add dry ingredients,
stirring until just moistened. Bake in loaf pan 50 minutes at
350 degrees.


Mulled Wine

1 bottle burgundy wine
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1 cinnamon stick
3 cloves
1/8 cup sugar

Combine all ingredients ia a pot and heat, taking care not 
to boil the mixture. Strain and serve while still warm.


Imbolc



Blackberry Wine

1 gallon blackberries
1 gallon water, lukewarm
5 pounds sugar
2 slices toasted bread
1 package yeast

In a very large container, crush the berries and add water. Mix
in half of the sugar. Stir until dissolved. Float bread on top
of mixture and sprinkle toast with yeast. Cover container
with cheescloth and let stand for 5 days. Add remaining sugar
and leave for another 2 days. Stir well. Let mixture sit
undisturbed three more days. Strain through chessecloth until
no more seeds remain in wine. Bottle and serve when desired.


 Sage Wine

1 cup fresh sage
1/2 cup claret or burgundy wine

Put fresh sage and wine into the blender on high until sage leaves are pulverized. 
Return wine to original bottle and chill well before serving.


Nut Horns

Dissolve 1 cake yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Add 1 teaspoon
sugar and 2 beaten egg yolks. Let stand for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile mix like pie crust:

2 cups flour
1 cup fat (Crisco or lard)
1/2 teaspoon salt

Add to yeast mixture. Cut dough in 3 parts, roll
each as you would for pie. cut into wedges, spread 
with filling, roll up. Bake at 350 degrees. While
still warm top with thin powered sugar icing.

Date Filling
Grind:
       1 cup walnuts
       1 cup dates
       2 egg whites (whipped)
       1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Fold in:
       1/2 cup sugar; add nuts and dates mixture.
