The purpose of this course is to present a survey of the education ministry of a church, including Biblical basis, historical development, and basic principles of education ministry and to show how these are basic to developing a personal philosophy of education ministry for use in a framework of educational administration for church program organizations.

In completing this course, the student will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the basic education ministry of a church. In achieving this goal, the student will be able to:

A. °úÁ¦ Course Requirements

Each student is required to read the materials in the textbook by the dates specified, and may be given an unannounced quiz over each assigned reading. The quiz may cover the content of the previous lecture.

Every professor appreciates students who make relevant contributions in the classroom in the form of comments and questions. To encourage each student to so participate, 10 points of the total course grade will reflect how much and how well each student contributes to classroom interaction.

Each student is required to submit an eight to ten (fifteen to twenty for graduate students) page research paper on one of the topics in the course by November 12. (Topic should be selected in consultation with the professor.) Papers are to follow the Turabian style and be turned in typed/word processed. The paper is to be stabled in the upper left hand corner - no folders or binders, please. Papers will not be returned, so keep a copy for your files.

Each research paper will be reviewed in class on the due date - how and why you chose your topic, survey of paper, highlights of contents, what you learned from your research, practical application of paper, new resources you discovered, and summary.

The grade received on the paper turned in after the due date will be reduced by 1 point per calendar day (i.e., a paper turned in a week late can earn no more than 23 points).

4. ½ÃÇè Two Exams (°¢ 20 Á¡ points each):

Design a one-year organization and outreach plan for a church based on "Flake's Formula" as it relates to the Growth Spiral. Include goals, schedule, organization, training, reporting, prospect discovery, promotional plans, assignment process, resources and evaluation.

Attends and writes an evaluation of a weekly worker's meeting. Include outline of schedule followed, level of involvement of participants, activities engaged in, and personal insights regarding what was accomplished.

Interview a pastor, minister of education, or nominating committee chairperson concerning the work of the church's nominating committee. Using the resources provided for the nominating committee, compare what the church does in training the committee, the selection of workers, the enlistment of workers, etc. with what is recommended.

Designs or reports on a plan for Pre-Service leadership training. This should include enlistment of people to participate, training schedules, procedures to follow, and resources for training.

Students are expected to attend all meetings of the course. A student's grade may be penalized for absences. If a student is absent from more than three class meetings, he/she will not receive credit for the course.
